SQUID - SEASON 1

Episode 1 - There’s A New Squid On the Block

Squidward is offered a spot as a student at an art institute in New Kelp City called the Pacific Maritime University. SpongeBob and Patrick help him move into his apartment, where he meets his roommate, a sarcastic stingray named Ray. Patrick and SpongeBob bid Squidward adieu and Ray shows the new squid around the campus. Squidward meets Headmistress Helga Wobbegong, who instantly dislikes Squidward. Squidward discovers that the student body collectively calls her the “Wobber.” Squidward meets an energetic eel named Eellen, who reminds him heavily of SpongeBob. Eellen is also a clarinet player. On his first day of classes, Squidward is sat next to Daphne the Dolphin, a pretty but self-obsessed sea mammal who constantly needs to rush back up to the surface for air. The clarinet professor, a sea turtle named Mr. Shell, proves to be eccentric and engaging for Squidward. At his first college party, Squidward finally meets Peterpus, an fun and outgoing octopus who, while the opposite of Squidward, becomes one of Squidward’s best friends.

First appearances - Squidward Tentacles, SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Ray Sting, Helga Wobbegong, Eellen Rogers, Daphne Mariana, Greg Shell, Peterpus Octopoda

Trivia - New Kelp City undergoes a radical change in appearance from its SpongeBob SquarePants version.

Notes - Squid is aimed at a slightly older audience than SpongeBob SquarePants, exemplified in the coarse humor of Ray, or the innuendos insinuated by Eellen. This episode was originally titled Little Squid, Big City.

Really digging the nostalgic vibe of tv.com summaries.  Even though I have no problem with longer writings, I missed these a lot.  Will keep reading.

Episode 3a - The Fat F

Squidward is in danger of failing and so he enlists the help of A-student Peterpus and Eellen, who is one of the best clarinet players in their class. Episode 5a - Counseling

The Pacific Maritime University's old college counselor has randomly decided to up and leave, leaving Headmistress Wobbegong to bring Dr. Cuddle Fish on board the PMU's staff. Unbeknownst to everybody, he's actually former renowned psychiatrist, Dr. Cuttlefish, who as much as he helped people out with their problems, he has used his natural born hypnotic abilities to mess with them just as much, switching one problem out for another. Ray goes to him and ends up lifting candy bars, as well as other unhealthy snacks, and chugging them down whenever he feels like getting a gym session in. Daphne goes to him and the next time she goes up for air, she only heads down deeper into the water. Dr. Cuddle even gets one on ole Wobbegong by having her obnoxiously bang a gong whenever somebody says her name. When Squidward comes to his office with his laundry list of problems, the good doctor has a field day.

First Appearances - Dr. Cuddle Fish

Notes - From this episode forward, Squidward eats everything odd numbered. Ray goes back to being a health nut and Daphne goes up for air without problems in following episodes through unseen circumstances

First Appearances - The Pacific Maritime University Board of Trustees, PMU President Eisenshower

Trivia - Mr. Krabs, Sgt. Sam Roderick, Plankton ("I WENT TO COLLEGE") and Squilliam Fancysons I & II all make appearances as members of the Board of Trustees.

Episode 6a - House of Horrors

As apart of a class activity, Mr. Shell invites his students to a trip to his eccentric house. Squidward at first is fascinated at the simple house yet eloquently designed. But soon Squidward finds an unsettling secret about his teacher's home. There's always someone watching over it or rather under the house. Mr. Shell is unaware of all the death traps set by the thing under the house, that constantly tries to eliminate Squidward and his classmates.

Trivia - The episode in general has horror movie like references with all the traps Squidward gets into.

Episode 6b - Fun and Games

Ray, Peterpus, Eellen, Daphne and Squidward are invited to a harmless Apples to Apples like card game at night in someone's dorm. Squidward thinks it's pretty childish but Peterpus encourages him, saying that it could be enjoyable. However Squidward wakes up six hours later in the morning. He is stuffed inside his own closet and with a hockey mask, a chainsaw and pink panties on. He must figure out what happened to him during that game.

Trivia -  A picture on Squidward's wall was of him in high school band class. Squilliam Fancyson III was also in it.

Episode 7a - Welcome to the Fin Fraternity: Hazed and Confused

It's Rush Week at PMU, and Squidward, Peterpus, and Ray want to get into the most popular frat on campus - Kappa Finma. Run by James-Sebastian Seahorse III, he grants them admission only on the grounds that they pass the induction ceremony, which Ray assures everyone that they can handle. After blindfolding the three and taking a 7-hour drive in circles around campus, James-Sebastian and the rest of Kappa Finma dump Squidward, Ray, and Peterpus on a drying rack on the surface, and says they're in the frat if they can return to the ocean in 11 minutes (and not die). Certain death seems imminent, until the group conveniently catches Daphne on one of her air runs, and manage to return underwater just in time.

First Appearances - James-Sebastian Seahorse III, the members of Kappa Finma

Notes: hazing is stupid, don't let them do it to you in college man

Episode 7b - Aquatic Animal House

Squidward has a huge test and a long day at work tomorrow, but tonight is the night Ray conveniently has planned to throw a huge party in their dorm. Agitated, Squidward tries to study, but the loud people partying and the music of Squidboy Q and Swimdrick Lamar prevent him from doing so. A fed up Squidward reluctantly teams up with a cranky Headmistress Wobbegong and the Resident Advisor, Mandy Taray, to put the party to an end, but Ray has a few tricks up his sleeve to stop that from happening.

First Appearances - Mandy Taray (Manta Ray)

Trivia - Johnny Krill and the Drasticals make cameo appearances at the party.

Episode 8a - Mr. Yes And

Believing Squidward to be a bit too uptight and negative, Peterpus drags him to an improv class to help loosen him up. After a difficult start, Squidward begins to “yes and” his way through scenes and becomes the star of the class. Riding the confidence from the class into his every day life, he begins to “yes and” everything - his lunch order, his classes, his job. Things are going great! Until his peers begin to question his sincerity.

First appearances: The Shell’s On Us improv troupe

Trivia: This is a thinly veiled reference to the writer’s sixth favorite Jim Carrey movie, Yes Man

Episode 8b - Cafe… a la Mode

In an attempt to appear more posh and sophisticated, Squidward forgoes his normal coffee order at the dining hall and instead asks for a “cafe… a la mode”. While the baristas don’t know exactly what he’s asking for, his friends are enamored by his worldliness and suddenly he’s the talk of the campus. Slowly but surely, everyone around him tries being sophisticated - ordering “cafe du fromage”, “pate au lait”, and “foie gras au chocolat”. Things come to a head when everyone begins copying Squidward’s every mannerism in an attempt to be like him.

Notes: Never order a “cafe du fromage”; this marks the first time in the series that someone other than Squidward has worn one of Squidward’s shirts

Trivia: A Krusty Krab food stand can be seen in the back of the dining hall

Episode 9a - Radio Ray

Ray gets his own show at WPMU, the college radio station, and it proves to be a hit. However, when he starts talking about Squidward's personal life on air, Squidward tells him to stop, but Ray claims that his duty to entertain his listeners is more important than Squidward's privacy. After that, Squidward calls in to his radio show and spills all of his deepest, darkest secrets. Ray is left feeling so humiliated that he quits on the spot, much to Squidward's satisfaction.

First appearances - WPMU station manager Ryan Crawfish

Trivia - We find out that Squidward accidentally inked himself in class once and that Ray makes out with his pillow when he thinks no one's watching.

Episode 9b - Shutout

Squidward and Eelleen are playing in the marching band of a highly-anticipated football game between Pacific Maritime and Atlantic Crustacean University. After getting a little too out of control at a tailgate, however, Eelleen is forced to sit the game out. Without their best player, the clarinetists seem lost when the performance is about to begin. Squidward gives a rousing speech, the best speech he's ever given in his life, and they stink up the place anyway. Eelleen promises to make it up to them next game.

Trivia - This is the second time ACU appears.

Notes - A tailgate is a party that usually happens around the stadium at a sporting event.

Episode 10a - Squidtastic!

Squidward’s contribution to a record label’s contest causes a stir on campus. Propelled into stardom, Squidward struggles with his newfound success and develops and increasingly unbearable attitude.

Notes - FishTV is an even trashier version of MTV.

Trivia - This features the first time Peterpus gets angry.

Episode 10b - The Daphne Diaries

A drama major, Daphne pens a play and forces her friends to star in it. A tragedy that rips off Romeo and Juliet, “The Daphne Diaries” stars Daphne as a fictionalized version of herself falling for a handsome college student (“Ray will have to do”) of a rival university. Hilarity ensues as the play opens and everything that can go wrong does go wrong.

Notes - Daphne is not discouraged after her play is panned, and continues to plagiarize.

First Appearances - Timothy Scallop, Theater Critic with the New Kelp Times

Trivia - On Daphne’s open night, Fred Rechid can be seen in the audience, the first time a background fish from the SpongeBob SquarePants series crosses over into Squid.

--------

And with that, Squid wraps up the first half of this season. We return on August 9. :D
