Hot take: "Santeria" by Sublime has aged quite poorly.

Looking back on it since the last few times that I thought it was a great song, I've only realized how risque some of the lyrics are...:
If I could find that jaina, and that Sancho that she's found.
Well, I'd pop a cap in Sancho and I'd slap her down. And I won't think twice to stick that barrel straight down Sancho's throat.
Believe me when I say that I got somethin' for his punk ass. That's also not limited to the subject matter. I can see that the band has a particular ska punk archetype that they're going for. A part of me feels like I shouldn't make a big deal out of the songwriting, but regardless, the rest of me does as I don't see the archetype working on "Santeria."
The guitar melody for "Santeria" is still great though, which prevents me from loathing it, but I can't adore it as much as I used to do because of the subject matter of a jealous ex-boyfriend trying to win his 'jaina' back by trying to force the 'Sancho' out of the relatioship, even if brutal force is put into question, OR finding another 'jaina' of his own, if it would mean making his old one jealous. So currently, "Santeria" only strikes me as a good-sounding song (so I guess 'poorly' was too strong of me to say) with visible problems underneath those ska punk grooves.
While I am divisive towards "Santeria", "What I Got," from the same band, is still at least a solid 90s ska punk song in my eyes. I could also name other songs from that genre and time period that hold up well for me including "My Best Friends Are Metalheads, "The Impression That I Get," "Walkin' on the Sun," and "Sunday Morning." Yep, this is by far one of my hottest takes and I'll accept any criticism against my stance (and I was expecting one of my takes for my upcoming year-end 2012-2013 reviews to be one of the hottest).

So I watched Mission Marvel yesterday. Really good. I decided to miss Wander Over Yonder, to do an errand, though.

Just to give a little musing towards the worst hit songs lists, I'm surprised at the lack of "Cold" in not only the worst lists but also on the dishonorable mentions so far as I've seen from music critics on YouTube yet I've seen "Don't Wanna Know" appearing often on them and "What Lovers Do" twice on the lists collectively. IMO, "Cold" is one of few M5 songs where Adam Levine is at his worst.

The music critics that have started early are not like Spectrum Pulse who wait until the official year-end list is published and/or lay down ground rules for their countdowns. In addition, some of them started forming their lists based on the projected year-end list from the Pulse Music forums. Besides, even if they're kinda sorta jumping the gun, they're still doing it during list season.
-
Taking a look at the year-end list, I wasn't expecting this particular song to barely crack it, but that one hit single from Blackbear just trumps over anything bad put out by Machine Gun Kelly and G-Eazy Squeeze Cheese in terms of badness.

"Do Re Mi" may have a personality, but I find it a very insufferable one. This might as well be my unpopular opinion when it comes to my rankings, but then again, I have made some pretty painful cuts - more painful than for my top 10 more-so. Including the hits appearing on my bottom 10, I've had around 17 other songs that I've considered as contenders for that list.

While going through commercials for Nicktoons, I discovered a string of ads for a toy called Pop n Play Pimples. I was expecting some BigSpot.com fakeout only to realize it in the end that such a product actually exists.

Just a reminder that I might not be able to do a best of animation list for 2018 because I can no longer afford to go to a movie theater with my family unless I were to go by myself (something I have yet to consider doing). And even when the animated films of 2018 get released to DVD this year, I wouldn't also afford to the pay the market price for them.

Remember when I said I'm finally going to be able to go to Comic Con? Forget it. I'm hosed, and now I'm going to have to wait for one more flipping year. WHY? The e-mail I used for my ID didn't get the link for the EPIC Open Online Registration. Just. my. luck.
