It's so surprising that this made it to the list. This wasn't on my list but ever since I was a kid, I adored the episode. Yes, Gary abuse was a bit too far but it was done in a cartoony way and it was funny. Not the mention SpongeBob apoligized to Gary at the end.

39. The great snail race

I like this episode. Wasn't on my list but it's a good season 3 episode that's underplayed on television. I love Spongebob being competetive against Squidward here, and although he's a jack-rabbit it's kind of funny. The Patrick interjection scene was funny. The squidward's last name gags were funny. There were a bunch of gags in here that were wonderful.

Also the sandy kicking spongebobs butt because she detected his demeaning of girls was a great touch that a lot of people pick up years later.

This is a very good episode.

Favorite moment: Nat: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to our live coverage of this year's annual spring classic, the 102nd Running of the Snail. And what a beautiful day for this sport of kings, of which I am a huge fan. Seriously, I'm just a fan. I was on my way to my seat, the door was open.

Perch Perkins: Hey, what are you doing?! [Nat runs away as the announcer comes and sits down] Heh, sorry about that, folks.

41. Haven't seen this one enough times to remember most of it.

40. This one was one of my honorable mentions. (Yup, I had honorable mentions, but only three.)

39. I used to love this episode to death when I was like 7 or something

38. "There's no way out of here."

Club SpongeBob, 64 points

The episode begins with Squidward leaving his house and riding his bicycle to work. He then rides past a tall tree, at the top of which is a small box where SpongeBob and Patrick are sitting and giggling profusely. They see Squidward below and talk to each other about this, beginning certain words with a "w" sound. Squidward approaches the base of the tree and asks what they are doing, and SpongeBob tells Squidward that he can't tell him because he is not a member of their club. Squidward mocks them, saying that he is more than qualified to join their club. SpongeBob tells Squidward he couldn't get in even if he tried. Squidward tells them that he is "a member of over 20 different exclusive clubs all across the sea bottom.," but SpongeBob and Patrick insist that he would not fit in. Enraged, Squidward tells them they know nothing of fitting in before he proceeds to climb the tree. SpongeBob and Patrick frantically tell Squidward to stop but he does not.

Squidward crawls into their tiny box, and SpongeBob and Patrick explain that they literally meant that he wouldn't "fit in," and that he and Patrick have been stuck in the tree for three days. SpongeBob and Patrick begin Squidward's initiation into their "club," but Squidward stops them, and attempts to get out be pulling on a smaller tree. He manages to make the tree double over and is about to crawl out when the second tree snaps, launching them into the sky. They fly over a kelp forest, where a couple sees them and the man says "Make a wish, Honey."

The trio crash in a small clearing in a distant section of the kelp forest. SpongeBob and Patrick begin to jump and shout joyfully while Squidward panics at his situation of being lost and stuck with SpongeBob and Patrick. SpongeBob and Patrick try to comfort Squidward by telling him it could be worse, and that they will survive as a club and as long as they have the "Magic Conch Shell," a Magic 8 ball-like device which SpongeBob and Patrick treat as prophetic and all-knowing. They believe the Magic Conch should never be questioned and should always be consulted before any action is taken. SpongeBob asks it what they must do to escape the kelp forest, and the conch says, "Nothing." SpongeBob and Patrick sit on the ground doing nothing, and Squidward is enraged at their stupidity. He announces that he intends to escape the forest and get back to sanity by himself, and walks away. As Squidward tries to find an exit, he becomes lost and afraid and eventually comes back to where SpongeBob and Patrick are.

Even more time passes, and by now, Squidward has dismantled the box in order to build a shelter. He has a hat made out of some dried plant and is sitting by a small campfire. He is holding an empty frying pan over the fire. A small bug scurries past, but Squidward catches it and proceeds to cook it. He taunts SpongeBob with his "food," saying that they could have sided with him and survived, but instead listened to a talking shell- that tells them nothing. He proceeds to say, "As if the answers to all your problems will fall right out of the sky! (laughs) Fall right out of the sky!"

Above the forest, a damaged plane is seen falling right out of the sky, and the pilots drop their load of picnic supplies and food to avoid crashing. The equipment lands around SpongeBob and Patrick, who emerge from their state of doing nothing and praise the magic conch. Squidward is extremely shocked and walks over to the two, who are devouring a table full of delicious food. Squidward says he was only kidding earlier and asks if he is still a member of the club, and SpongeBob tells him that he is still a member. Squidward cannot decide what to choose, and forcibly follows SpongeBob's suggestion of asking the conch shell. It tells him he cannot have either of the two items he asked for. He tries another one, and the conch says no. He repeatedly asks it if he can have anything to eat, with the shell responding "no" every time. He becomes enraged and is about to go mad when a Park Ranger enters the clearing.

Squidward tells him he has been stranded with SpongeBob, Patrick, and the magic conch shell for weeks, and his mention of the "magic conch shell" prompts the ranger who pulls out an identical conch, much to Squidward's surprise. SpongeBob and Patrick are delighted to meet a "club member," and the ranger tells them that his conch advised him to look for them. The three club members praise the magic conch before asking it how to get out of the kelp forest. It tells them, "Nothing." Following the conch's advice, they do nothing and assume sitting positions on the ground. Squidward, completely dumbfounded, praises the magic conch and sits down as well, ending the episode.

jjs: I know some people are going to find this episode overrated, and might hate it for "Squidward Abuse". However, I still think it's a hilarious episode, hence why it made my list. We got a nice change of setting, and can you not love the Magic Conch? Just a classic episode all around.

Wumbo: I'm surprised this episode isn't higher. I honestly thought it was one of the most well regarded episodes of the series. But it is here, so let's talk about it. Like jjs said, I love the change of setting this episode gave us. It's always refreshing to shake things up a bit. This episode also has a lot of classic moments, courtesy of SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and The Magic Conch. It didn't make my list as overplay kind of killed this one a little for me, but it still does a lot right and I'm not surprised to see it crack the top 50.

37. "SpongeBob is the only guy I know who can have fun with a jellyfish... FOR TWELVE HOURS!"

Jellyfish_Jam_Gallery_(56).jpg

Jellyfish Jam, 68 points

(5 of 26 lists.Highest Ranking: #5, Steel)

A jellyfish insists on following SpongeBob home after a day out at Jellyfish Fields, so SpongeBob decides on letting it spend the night at his home. Squidward warns SpongeBob that jellyfish are wild animals and that they should not be domesticated, but SpongeBob completely ignores him. At home, SpongeBob dances with the jellyfish to loud techno rave music, which annoys Squidward to no end. After 12 hours of this form of nonstop partying, SpongeBob finally decides that it is time to go to bed, but this Jellyfish does not want to stop. SpongeBob eventually forces it to go to bed by tying a leash around it, but during the night, while SpongeBob sleeps, the jellyfish escapes and brings lots of his friends into SpongeBob's house.

The next morning, SpongeBob wakes up to find his living room filled with hundreds of dancing jellyfish. He attempts to make them leave, but to no avail. Squidward, annoyed by this, decides that "two can play at this," and starts loudly playing his clarinet, angering the jellyfish, who start destroying SpongeBob's house. SpongeBob asks Squidward to play his clarinet a little "better," and Squidward responds by intentionally playing even worse and much louder. This prompts the jellyfish to go to his house and sting him before returning to SpongeBob's house. A sting-covered Squidward says to SpongeBob "Everybody's a critic. You won't be hearing from me anymore," and gives him his clarinet. The jellyfish hastily grab it from SpongeBob, break it in half, burn it and dance around it. This further angers SpongeBob, who attempts to remove the stereo system, destroying it in the process, and the angered jellyfish begin stinging and chasing him. SpongeBob and Gary go up to the roof of the house, but the swarm follows them outside and surrounds them. Then Gary drives them away by clicking his eyes together, producing a sound that calms the Jellyfish. SpongeBob tells Gary to keep doing this, and puts him on his head. SpongeBob walks downstairs and out the front door, with the Jellyfish following him. As he leads them back to Jellyfish Fields, more sounds join Gary's clicking, eventually becoming a full-fledged song. In the last scene, the severely stung Squidward is shown getting into a bathtub as the episode ends.

Steel: I'm pretty sure that this was the first episode at some point in my life that I have come to love. (Mostly because of how infectious the Stadium Rave track was) In many ways, the episode feels so memorable and executed well. I like the concept of how Spongebob tries to keep a stray jellyfish and how the plot is driven through the jellyfish's attachment to Spongebob's music, as well as the jellyfish inviting the other wild jellyfish to play Stadium Rave. Most of my praise goes to the animation's direction into choreography during the two songs that played in-between the main plot. It feels so wonderfully crafted and executed. The jokes fit the bill too, and I like how it's mostly centered around the jellyfish, most notably the gags from when the jellyfish starts becoming attached to Spongebob and Squidward's madness from the constant noise from Spongebob's house. It's a classic and shining moment from Season 1.

Wumbo: Classic episode, for sure. I watched this one over and over as a kid. And I do still think it's a pretty enjoyable episode, if a bit repetitive. Squidward was just perfect in this episode, stone cold sarcasm gives him the best lines and he steals the show for me. The rest is okay, but it drags a bit for me. Honestly, I'm surprised it made the list, but regardless of quality I do think it's an iconic episode so it does have that going for it.

#50 - I thought this episode was ok... Never really thought of it as a great episode but who cares.

#49 - Ah, this episode. The best part for me was the nuclear explosion (don't ask why... Ok, it was because I liked Dying for Pie)

#48 - Oh god, this episode. The joke about (Sheldon) Plankton's family all being hillbillies might have been the best part to me... too bad this isn't aired on TV a lot.

#47 - Another episode not seen on TV a lot. While it wasn't the best season 4 episode, it wasn't the worst either.

#46 - I'll like this episode FOREVER! FOREVER! FOREVER! FOREVER! Anyways, this has to be one of the best Season 2 episodes.

#45 - Um... This episode wasn never one of my favorites, ESPECIALLY because it's paired with Spongehenge, which is unnerving... just... anyways...

#44 - Too bad it was censored :(... This episode never used to be my favorite but I've found it to be much better that I remembered.

#43 - ALSO uncommonly aired... It's a good episode, along with SnailPo... BLEGHH!

#42 - I had the FUN Song stuck in my head for years until I watched the episode again after like 7 years. 'Twas a great episode.

#41 - I never saw this as a kid because of Valentine's Day... It's still a great episode none the less.

#40 - Once again, I didn't see this as a kid. It's ok but boring.

#39 - This episode likely isn't aired much because of Mid-Life Crustacean's panty raid. This isn't really one of my favorites but it's good enough. I never understood Sandy's justification for kicking Spongebob's butt until rewatching the episode 8 years later.

#38 - I never really saw this on TV years ago, so... yeah. The episode is great and what is bad about this episode? "Nothing."

#37 - My sister OBSESSES about this episode... It's ok but not perfect.

Dunces and Dragons: Ouch...sorry, I never really liked this special. Squidly was cool, but I just always found it boring to watch.

The Great Snail Race: Again, never really liked it. I just found it to be annoying.

Club Spongebob: Pretty funny. I didn't appreciate it much as a kid, but nowadays, it always seems to get a laugh out of me.

Jellyfish Jam: Pretty decent Season 1 episode, but not an all-time favorite of mine.
