Popular Post Clappy Posted February 16, 2016 Popular Post Posted February 16, 2016 I was going to make this in The Krabby Kronicle, but apparently I don't have access to do that anymore. Very well then. This topic doesn't apply towards everyone, just a select few. Because for the most part, there is a good amount of our daily users list that know how to do this, but I can't sit back and be idle whenever I'm on here anymore when it comes to this. Last night drew a proverbial line in the sand for me. I had to speak out on this after finding out one of my friends on here was afraid to share his opinion on something that everyone on here has been talking about for the past twenty four hours. And why was he afraid to share that? Harassment. I'm not going to share who this person is out of the up most respect I have for him, but he's not alone. I know plenty of people on here who are afraid to share their thoughts or have to edit their's because they said something that they thought was stupid of them because other people have gone on the record to point out how wrong they are or flaws in their own opinions or in some cases say they have mental brain damage because they liked something that someone else didn't like. ...what the hell guys? This pisses me off more than it should because I love sharing my opinions and it disappoints me that we have others afraid to share theirs due to harassment. I thought we were suppose to be the mature SpongeBob forum or whatever have you? I expected petty remarks like this on other forums because of immaturity, but not here or the XAT. Yeah I know the XAT isn't associated with SBC anymore, but who are we kidding? No matter how many times we can say that, we all know every single user on here has been to the XAT at one point or another in their forum lives. I mean how hard is it to accept someone else has a different opinion from you? If you don't have anything nice to say to someone else, just don't say anything at all. I mean my god, is it the end of the world to just be respectful to one another? No need to be an ignorant ass and just ride on somebody for having a differing opinion, or not watching the same show as you, so on and so forth. I've said this more than once before and I'll say it again. There is somebody else behind the computer, cell phone, tablet screen that you are replying to and they have the same emotions as you. I'm not telling you to like anyone, but at the very least accept the fact that they are different from you. No need to post a derogatory reaction GIF, give a backhanded ass compliment, or go out of your way to be a douche just because you don't care what comes out of your mouth. Seriously what does that prove? That you are too cool to care about other people? Then why visit this site and keep coming back in the first place? Grow up and re-evaluate what you're doing with your life. I seriously hope this is the last time I have to make a topic like this because we have rules for a a reason. If you click that Guideline button on the home page, you'll see that this behavior is unacceptable. To the those of you this applies too, shape up. Nobody should be living in fear of harassment and I won't stand by and let this keep happening. 29
Katniss Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Well said. Nobody should have to feel afraid to share their opinions on something because they're afraid that people will harass them for it. It's fine to disagree but do it in a respectable way. 1
Nosheratu! Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) I couldn't have said this better myself. Props to you, man. Seriously, though, given the general age range of our members here, I would expect that this shouldn't even HAVE to be addressed... yet here we are. Come on, quit being so hateful to each other. E.V.I.L. Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Sad this even has to be addressed, and here out of all places. Opinions are all wecome and respected.
Sweat Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 It's utterly infuriating this needs to be brougblht up. Very well said.
Slippin' Freddy Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 This. Just this. I don't get why people hate on others just because they have an opinion that differs theirs. I mean, sure, there's disagreeing with an opinion and replying to it in a nice, constructive manner, but at least that's a calm way to state your opinion without starting an argument or debate. Then, there's stuff like "OMG YOU LIKE/HATE THIS SHOW YOU SUCK" which usually leads to an argument in the thread which results in a topic lock (i.e. Frozen 2 thread). I know I have been guilty of doing stuff like this in the past. Sometimes on other sites, sometimes on here. But at least I have the guts to come clean and confess. I have made a post like this recently where I called out (NAME WITHHELD) for insulting Gravity Falls and calling it a bad name. I mean, sure, it was pretty mean, but I called him out in a bad way and I think it drove him away from this site. I felt so bad about the post that I erased it. I just hope I can try and change for the better of it and try to forget that incident ever happened. And that's what drives people away from Downtown Bikini Bottom and SBC in general. Arguments like the one in the feminism topic are what drive people away from the site. We are not kids in kindergarten fighting on the playground. We are mature high schoolers/college people/adults who settle things respectively without calling each other names. Please, for the love of god, act like the latter in this situation. Don't make the same mistake that me and other people have made before. That is all I would like to say. Please respect my opinion on this. 4
crushingmayhem Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 We all have different opinions regarding different subjects, people need to understand that not everyone thinks the same way. Fighting over topics is something that happens in a lot of forums, but in my opinion it shouldn't happen in ours because we're supposed to be discussing a show like SB which is a children's show. Never be afraid to voice your opinion on a subject since that's what forums are for, as long as you don't offend others you'll be fine. But insulting others and/or offending others is not to be tolerated under any circumstances. If you're one of those who likes offending others then you'll be penalized as that is against the rules of the forum.

It's like, "Aw, you wanted to voice your thoughts on this? Well, too bad! You have to pay for others not being able to control themselves!". Not respecting someone else's opinion doesn't just negatively impact the guy on the other side of the screen, it negatively impacts everyone. 35 minutes ago, crushingmayhem said: Fighting over topics is something that happens in a lot of forums, but in my opinion it shouldn't happen in ours because we're supposed to be discussing a show like SB which is a children's show. ...I mean not to disrespect your opinion, but I feel the reason it shouldn't happen is because we're mature human beings who should know better.
Jane Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) I admit I have been part of the problem before, especially with some of my arguments on the Xat. I'm going to be more open minded from now on and apologize for that. 5 hours ago, Fred Rechid said: This. Just this. Wumbo Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Basically disagreeing with someone does not give you the right to act like an arrogant asshole and a bully because of it. There should be absolutely no reason that someone is afraid to share their opinion on this site. Respect, people.
