2018 on SBC. 2018 saw one of the largest incidents occur in the site's history.

Previous: 2017

Next: 2019

January to March

Starting the year off, Employee of the Month was rebooted into Featured Employee. Now a user is only featured once every three months, making it more special. The first user to be featured was crushingmayhem. From January 2nd to January 16th, 2018, users could vote on what they wanted the theme of the next forum event to be. The options were: Space, Western, Prehistoric and Futuristic, with Space winning, but due to how well Futuristic fared, some elements from it were used in the event as well. On January 11, 2018, iFish avatars were added to the index under "Who's Online in Bikini Bottom" for a quality of life improvement. Throughout January, the forum layout got another major revamp, stressing a community aspect to it. On February 10, 2018, SBC's official Discord server was released. Futuristic February: In Space! began February 12th, 2018 and ended February 26th, 2018. March Madness 2018 began March 1st, 2018 and concluded March 31st, 2018. The Band Geeks, Drasticals and Independents faced off once again. In the end, the Drasticals won 42-21-5, one of the largest blowouts in SBC history.

April to July

SBC held another April Fools prank on April 1st, 2018. Teen Titans Go characters invaded the site, where many users had lots of fun and activity was increased highly on the site throughout the day. Badges were also given a revamp this month, where users can now select and choose which extra badges to show in their posts, due to the increasing number of badges and to prevent clutter. The 22nd SWYAD was held from April 13th to April 20th, 2018, with the theme of Cartoon Characters. Spin-Off Festival 8 started May 25, 2018 and concluded June 19th, 2018, celebrating the 10th anniversary of when tvfan95 started spin-offs on tv.com. While users had fun during the festival however, things were not as they seemed behind the scenes. For the first time in a long while, some major staff controversy occurred on SBC come late May 2018, when Cream and Metal Snake (with Spongetron Robotpants as a complicit assistant) conspired behind the scenes to create a 14 page document attacking jjs and several users, which included a multitude of false and easily debunk-able statements - appropriately called Metalgate. This resulted in Metal and Cream stepping down from their positions and leaving SBC. Fry Cooks were revived on June 7th, 2018, consisting of: Cha, Patty Sponge and JCM. SBC's Discord got much more active come June, and has become even more popular than the Xat. Over the course of 3 days (June 29th to July 1st), a major series of events occured on SBC. These events centered around the ban and demotion of long-time user and administrator MDPP. After a resignation thread, which has since been censored, a protest on both the forums and Discord, the site was briefly shutdown by MDPP. Negotiations occurred, and resulted in user JCM becoming administrator and assuming ownership of the databases, servers, and domain for SBC. The name for this weekend of controversy and panic was coined by HawkbitAlpha and jjsthekid. Sponge Cup began July 1st, 2018 and concluded July 31st, 2018, which the Band Geeks won 48-35-5. On July 13th, 2018, Homie was made a Cashier and teenj was made a Manager. On July 24th, SBC News was rebooted by Patty Sponge, 5 years after the original series ended.

August to October

Rodessance, a western-themed event, began August 17th and ended August 31st. On August 28th, a new version of SBC Radio was launched. In September 2018, SBC had the most consecutive overlord reigns in history with five. LocalAquatic was promoted to Fry Cook on October 5th, 2018 after an application was held, which was the first Fry Cook application in SBC history. Octerror Fest 2018 started October 12th and concluded October 31st, with the Drasticals winning.

November to December

On November 27, 2018, SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg passed away. While SBC itself was offline due to technical issues at the time, many members came to the Discord and SBM to voice their condolences. The Stephen Hillenburg Community was created in his honor. To finish off the year, Snowcember Ball 2018 started December 10th and concluded December 30th, with the Band Geeks winning.
