To avoid going over every single category in this ask thread, I’ll just give you my brief thoughts on the main six: Best Picture: Who Will Win - Three Billboards Who Should Win - Dunkirk Admittedly this is still tough to predict as I don’t see a runaway candidate like I have in most years. But I unfortunately think Three Billboards is going to win. Best Actor: Who Will Win - Gary Oldman Who Should Win - Gary Oldman Predictable as fuck biopic movie aside, he really did an all time great performance as Winston Churchill. Best Actress: Who Will Win - Frances Mcdormand Who Should Win - Sally Hawkins Really pulling for the upset here more so than ever, but I do admit McDormand’s performance was my only highlight from that movie. Best Supporting Actor: Who Will Win - Sam Rockwell Who Should Win - Christopher Plummer Now this is a consensus pick I absolutely disagree with. I thought Rockwell was bad as the racist cop that I can’t remember what his name was. I didn’t see a great performance like nearly everyone else did. Tbh, I thought Harrelson, who is also nominated for his role, did better. But my pick goes to Plummer, who literally shot all his scenes in like one week for reshoots, and knocked it out of the park. Best Supporting Actress: Who Will Win - Allison Janney Who Should Win - Laurie Metcalf I actually have no idea who is the favorite. My thought is that Janney has won more awards on the circuit from the bunch means she’s the favorite but I seriously don’t know. All five of these women did great so I don’t have a problem with any of them taking the trophy. But if I had to choose one, Metcalf lowkey gave the best performance in Lady Bird to me. Don’t think I mentioned that on my best list, but she really impressed the hell out of me. Best Director Who Will Win - Guillermo Del Toro Who Should Win - Christopher Nolan Honestly any of these directors winning will make me happy. All five killed it, even though Phantom Thread was good not great. I don’t blame it all on the directing though as much as I do the screenplay.
