​SpongeBob and Patrick go to the Palace of Pranks to search for the ultimate prank. They decide on buying invisible spray, spray it on a park bench, and have people think they're floating in midair. After taking off their clothes (because invisible spray stains them), they argue over which one should spray the bench, resulting in their clothes getting sprayed. Eventually, SpongeBob and Patrick use up the invisible spray by spraying each other. When Nat runs away in terror after Patrick asks him the time, SpongeBob and Patrick realize that they have the ultimate prank: to pretend to be ghosts and scare Bikini Bottom!

They scare everyone from Sandy to Squidward, but one person hasn't been scared yet: Mr. Krabs. Insisting that he isn't afraid of ghosts, he prepares himself with a bunch of ghostly armor. But because SpongeBob and Patrick aren't really ghosts, they aren't affected, scaring Mr. Krabs. He tries to make a break for it, but SpongeBob and Patrick have already glued the doors shut, replaced all the windows with rubber, and even clogged all the toilets. They threaten to burn a dollar, so Mr. Krabs throws a bucket of water to put the flame out. Unfortunately for SpongeBob and Patrick, it also washes off the spray, revealing to Mr. Krabs who the Bikini Bottom ghosts really are. Mr. Krabs insists that there are no hard feelings, and sends SpongeBob and Patrick off home... but not before all of Bikini Bottom gets a taste of live nude pranksters. SpongeBob laments to Patrick that they should have gone with the whoopee cushion.

16. "I'm not sure that these are my pants..."

SpongeBob Meets The Strangler - 59 points

When SpongeBob is picking up litter outside The Krusty Krab, he notices that the litter is continuing to fall. He notices a large fish tossing wrappers on the ground. He calls the cops on him, who promptly show up and arrest him. While he gets arrested, SpongeBob learns that he's The Tattletale Strangler, which means that SpongeBob will probably be his next victim if he doesn't get a bodyguard. The Strangler escapes, prompting SpongeBob to search high and low fro a bodyguard.

Unfortunately, no one is willing to protect SpongeBob against The Strangler. No one, that is, except The Strangler himself, wearing a fake mustache. SpongeBob asks him to protect him from The Strangler, and The Strangler accepts, planning to take him to an isolated place where he can kill him.

But first, SpongeBob has to run errands. After what seems like forever, they finally arrive at SpongeBob's house... but SpongeBob forgot his key. After 20 minutes of searching, The Strangler suggests they go through the window. He tells SpongeBob to hop on his shoulders, but SpongeBob, wearing spiky cleats, misses the mark and lands right in The Strangler's eye sockets. After six hours of struggling to get out, SpongeBob tells The Strangler that he keeps a spare key under the mat, infuriating him further.

When they're finally in, The Strangler locks the doors and prepares to choke SpongeBob. But then the lights turn on, and it turns out that Bikini Bottom is throwing SpongeBob a surprise party for being having a 100% on-time average. After the party ends and everyone leaves, The Strangler tries again, but then everyone comes back for SpongeBob's birthday party. After everyone leaves yet again, Patrick lags behind. The Strangler insists he go, but SpongeBob trusts Patrick. The Strangler says that for all they know, Patrick could be The Strangler. Patrick, believing himself to be The Strangler, goes to turn himself in. By this point, The Strangler has finally lost his patience, revealing himself to be The Strangler and getting away from SpongeBob. But SpongeBob is relentless, still believing him to be his bodyguard. The chase eventually lands The Strangler in jail. The police commend SpongeBob for trapping The Strangler, and The Strangler shares a cell with Patrick.

Have You Seen This Snail? - 60 points

When SpongeBob receives a Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy paddleball set and the Dirty Bubble Challenge of hitting the paddleball 29,998,559,671,349 times in a row, he becomes obsessed, despite not even being able to hit it once. He becomes so obsessed that he forgets to feed Gary and gets mad at him when Gary interrupts his challenge, asking to be fed. Feeling unloved, Gary decides to leave.

Eventually, SpongeBob gives up on the Dirty Bubble Challenge and remembers to feed Gary, thinking he's only been doing it for a couple hours, and not even noticing Gary as he left.He calls Gary for dinner, but Gary doesn't arrive. Feeling worried, SpongeBob asks Patrick how long he was doing the Dirty Bubble Challenge. Patrick replies, judging by how much the milk has spoiled, 7 to 10 days. SpongeBob is shocked. He looks all over the place for Gary until he finds a note in his mailbox from him, stating that he's gone off to find an owner who will remember to feed him, devastating SpongeBob.

Meanwhile, Gary takes a bus to a strange neighbourhood, where he meets up with a gang of alley snails (however, they just wanted to give him some nachos). Gary is found by an old lady who mistakes him for a snail named "Ms. Tuftsy". She takes Gary to her house, where she pampers him. Meanwhile, SpongeBob looks for Gary all over the place, but can't find him. He is extremely depressed the next morning at work. Mr. Krabs reassures him that "any problem you have can be solved with a little hard work". However, SpongeBob interprets this to mean that he must work harder to find Gary, so he does so with Patrick's help, putting up flyers across Bikini Bottom asking Gary to come home.

They put one on the door of a craft store, and Patrick realizes that they have scented pine cones, so he rushes in to buy some. In there, he sees the old lady with Gary. She tells Patrick that she bought all the scented pine cones, so Patrick leaves, forgetting that he saw Gary and telling SpongeBob that he saw balsa wood in there. SpongeBob tearfully replies that Gary loved balsa wood.

Back at the old lady's home, Gary indicates that he has to go to the bathroom. The old lady gives him some flyers that she got from "a chubby little boy". Gary sees the flyers and realizes that SpongeBob does care about him. He tries to find an exit, but instead finds a closet full of snail shells. He realizes that the old lady has been fattening him up to eat him. He escapes while the old lady throws deviled eggs and cookies at him. During his escape, he encounters the alley snails again. He puts one of them out in the open in place of himself, and the old lady takes him away.

Meanwhile, SpongeBob has given up on looking for Gary. He wishes to see him one last time, and coincidentally, that is when Gary shows up. SpongeBob promises to never neglect him again, and takes him inside to feed him, remarking that he must be starving.

The Camping Episode - 66 points

When Squidward realizes that SpongeBob and Patrick are going on a camping trip, he rejoices in finally having some peace and quiet. That is, until he realizes that their camping trip is 10 feet from SpongeBob's house. Angry, he confronts the, saying that they're not really camping. SpongeBob asks Squidward if he wants to join them. Squidward replies with a definite no, to which SpongeBob replies, "Have fun inside." Squidward takes this to mean that SpongeBob thinks he's soft, and thus joins them.

After trying and failing to set up a tent, Squidward decides to just sleep out under the stars. He also has a can of Swedish Barnacle Balls, but can't open them because he left his can opener inside, and SpongeBob insists that it just wouldn't fit the camping spirit if he went in to get it. Squidward relents, and eats marshmallows with SpongeBob and Patrick. After Patrick repeatedly spits molten foodstuffs into his face, Squidward asks what else they do for fun, prompting SpongeBob and Patrick to sing The Campfire Song Song.

After they finish, Squidward shows them some "relaxing" music by playing his clarinet. Horrified, SpongeBob and Patrick launch a marshmallow into Squidward's windpipe to stop him from playing. They say that the sounds of bad clarinet playing attracts a sea bear. Squidward, skeptical, asks for the entire list of what sea bears hate. He then exemplifies all those traits, while SpongeBob and Patrick draw an anti-sea bear circle around themselves to keep them safe. A sea bear arrives and mauls Squidward repeatedly, during which Squidward learns that sea bears hate running, limping, crawling, and him in general. SpongeBob and Patrick prompt him to draw an anti-sea bear circle, but after Squidward fails and gets mauled yet again, he just jumps into SpongeBob's and Patrick's. The sea bear,m after threateningly glaring at Squidward, leaves. SpongeBob and Patrick lament this this circle would have never protected them from a sea rhinoceros, which is attracted by the sounds of a sea bear attack. So it's a good thing they're all wearing their anti-sea rhinoceros undergarments... right, Squidward?

Nasty Patty - 68 points

A health inspector comes to the Krusty Krab for a surprise inspection. He tells SpongeBob to get him everything on the menu, which he does. But then a television report reveals that someone is posing as a health inspector to get free food. Outraged, Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob make the health inspector a "Nasty Patty", with Volcano Hot Sauce, toenail clippings, and other nasty things. Before the health inspector eats the patty, a fly zooms into his mouth, knocking him out. After watching a news report confirming that the impostor health inspector has been caught, Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob think they've killed a health inspector.

SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs set out to bury the body. SpongeBob digs a hole, tossing a huge rock out of the way, knocking out the health inspector again who was just coming to. The police arrive to offer SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs a ride back to The Krusty Krab. It begins to rain, and the mud on the hill erodes, exposing the health inspector's body. SpongeBob puts the health inspector in the trunk, becoming more and more comically nervous.

When they reach The Krusty Krab, SpongeBob must take the body and stow it in the freezer. But the back door is locked, so SpongeBob must stuff it in his hat as he walks by the police officers. Just then, the officers receive a call about two people burying a body on the hill. They begin to leave, but first An officer wants a soda... with ice. Mr. Krabs at first tries to hide the body and deny that he has any ice. SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs finally confess to their crime, and the officer opens the freezer, only to reveal nothing there. The officers think it's a joke, suggesting that he might have became a zombie. Just then, the health inspector appears, zombie-like. The police begin to beat him, but then they realize that he's alive. The health inspector informs Mr. Krabs that The Krusty Krab passed the inspection, and Mr. Krabs decides to celebrate with Krabby Patties at half price! Well, not really.

Only number 14? Usually The Camping Episode ends up as number two on these countdowns. This is mindblowing.

I didn't really like Nasty Patty to begin with, but I've come to appreciate it as a darker episode than what we're used to from SpongeBob.

Here's the episode that surprised me the most. I had no idea it was this popular.

Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm - 73 points

When an Alaskan bull worm terrorizes Bikini Bottom, the townsfolk come together to find a way to stop the madness. Patrick suggests pushing Bikini Bottom somewhere else, but everybody dismisses that idea pretty quickly. Just then, Sandy shows up, determined to take on the Alaskan bull worm, who stole her tail. SpongeBob, fearing for Sandy's life, tries to persuade her not to do it, but Sandy is determined to defeat the worm.

Eventually, Sandy reaches a cave which she identifies as the worm's lair. SpongeBob tries to tell her something, but Sandy is busy beating up the worm inside and reclaiming her tail. Finally, SpongeBob tells her that the "worm" is actually the worm's tongue, and the "cave" is actually the worm itself. Horrified, Sandy runs for her life. SpongeBob uses a paper clip tied to string (which he tried to pass off as Sandy's tail to persuade her not to go) to grapple onto a tree. He and Sandy end up on the worm's back, who falls off a cliff. Despite the harrowing ride, SpongeBob and Sandy still manage to survive. They go to tell everybody that they saved the town.

However, it turns out that the town actually decided to go through with Patrick's idea... and the place they pushed Bikini Bottom happens to be the place where the worm lands.

I'm surprised also. Pleasantly though. I mean, I don't think it deserves to be in the top 20 but it is a great episode that often gets overlooked...

11. "The Krusty Krab pizza is the pizza for you and me!"

When a customer calls The Krusty Krab asking for a pizza, Mr. Krabs makes a pizza out of a Krabby Patty and asks SpongeBob and Squidward to deliver it. But when SpongeBob backs up the car a bit too much, things go awry.

They're left stranded in the middle of nowhere, with a car out of gas, and you know what else? The pizza's getting cold. They have no choice but to deliver it on foot. SpongeBob and Squidward soon get caught up in a tornado, stranding them in the real middle of nowhere. SpongeBob tries to navigate using pioneer tricks, but Squidward doesn't listen and leads them the wrong way. I'll just leave this here.

Soon, SpongeBob and Squidward get tired and hungry. SpongeBob suggests eating coral, no, sand, no, mud, like the pioneers, but Squidward wants the pizza. SpongeBob, horrified that Squidward would steal from the customer, runs away. Then SpongeBob sees something.

Squidward once again is skeptical, but SpongeBob actually manages to drive the rock, prompting Squidward to run after him.

When SpongeBob and Squidward arrive at the customer's house, he is upset because he expected a drink that never arrived. He slams the door in SpongeBob's face. SpongeBob is heartbroken, so Squidward sets off to make things right. He slams the pizza in the customer's face, stating that it's on the house. He then tells SpongeBob that he ate the whole thing in one bite, and asks him to take him home. But SpongeBob replies that they have enough time to get back to work, which turns out to only be a few blocks away.
