terminoob
Overall meh. I'm glad The Big Short got stuff because it makes me hopeful that it'll get Oscar noms, but Joy also got stuff and that's being absolutely torn apart by critics so who knows. Johnny Depp not being nominated for Best Actor is weird. Mark Ruffalo being nominated for a movie that isn't Spotlight even though Spotlight got a lot of things is also weird, but maybe he's a lot better/more interesting in Infinitely Polar Bear. These are just the Golden Globes so I won't take it too seriously, but Mad Max getting nominated for Best Picture is really bugging me. Did they really not have anything else to nominate or do they legitimately think it deserves to win? I can kind of accept George Miller getting nominated for Best Director because of all the crazy action sequences he was able to pull off, but the movie itself just seemed... not good enough for all the praise it's getting. Also hoping the Emmys provides a better TV nomination list. Things got snubbed that definitely shouldn't have gotten snubbed, like Mad Men and Kimmy Schmidt. Katniss
I'm surprised Creed didn't get any nods aside from Sylvester Stallone. Haven't seen the movie yet myself but the reviews for it have been pretty good. Give my boy Michael B. Jordan some love! Don't think that The Good Dinosaur should've really gotten a nom beside Inside Out, I feel like they were both nominated because they're both Pixar since The Good Dinosaur looks mediocre at best and the most praise I've heard about it is about the scenery. Not sure about The Martian being classified fully as a comedy but I still hope Matt Damon wins. He was pretty great in his role, I think. I agree with termi that Kimmy Schmidt and Mad Men should've gotten some more recognition. UKS was one of the funniest shows I've seen all year and I thought this final season of Mad Men was a good note to end out on. Don't care about the miniseries categories so no complaints on that except I think it's interesting that Lady Gaga is up for an acting award. But maybe she's good on AHS: Hotel, who knows? I really think Mad Max Fury Road was so awesome, maybe even one of my favorite action movies ever but the story was too simple that I'm surprised it was nominated for best motion picture drama. I still love Mad Max Fury Road but there are better-written movies this year imo.
Old Man Jenkins
Surprised that Bridge of Spies only got nominated for one thing. That should've definitely been nominated for the Drama over Mad Max.

Jane
I think Inside Out is going to win because Pixar seems to win most of the time here, and it was the better of the two Pixar films. Heard Good Dino was alright, nothing really special. Really happy Peanuts and Shaun the Sheep got nominated though, they deserve a lot more praise than they get.

Guest
Surprised Shaun The Sheep got nom'd, because it was technically a UK movie. But I'm glad, since it was probably the best one of those.

But I'm glad, since it was probably the best one of those. It was still released domestically. Even if it was hypothetically only released in the UK, award committees nominate foreign animated films more often than you would expect. Haven't seen some of these yet, but my initial reaction is more surprised with the amount of nominations for The Big Short. Can't wait to see that because I'm hearing really good early buzz. Also totally surprised to see Alicia Vikander nominated for Ex Machina. I knew she was getting recognition for The Danish Girl, but the fact that she got nominated again was a total surprise. Not complaining because Ex Machina was great. Also what did you guys expect Mad Max to be classified as? A comedy? That being said, I think Mad Max's best picture nom was more due to the "prestige films" not being nearly as strong as in past years.

Katniss
My thoughts: -If you haven't watched Room, go watch it. NOW. Brie Larson is amazing. She's been such an underrated actress for so long and it makes me very happy to see her getting some major awards recognition. -This is the second year in a row that someone from a CW show has won a Golden Globe, interesting. Nobody could've ever seen this coming a few years ago. -Denzel Washington is a legend but please give him his glasses -Lady Gaga's acceptance speech was so sweet. I didn't watch AHS but congrats to her. -Ricky Gervais wasn't that funny of a host. I was cringing whenever he opened his mouth, pretty much. -Surprised to see "Writing's on the Wall" win. I thought that was a meh song at best. - *adds Mr. Robot and Mozart in the Jungle (whatever that is) to my to-watch list* -Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell looked like they'd been hitting the sauce before they presented their award (it was for some miniseries thing or whatever? I don't recall). The joys of having booze at an awards show. Oscar nominations are announced on Thursday. Any last-minute predictions?
Clappy
You also forgot to mention The Revenant winning Best Motion Picture, Drama. No major complaints on a majority of the winners, but I'm absolutely shocked to see The Martian beat The Big Short in not just one, but two different categories. Not only because I thought The Big Short was the even better movie but it has more awards season momentum than The Martian does right now. That being said, this isn't the first time the Golden Globes went out of their way to shock me. I still remember The Hangover winning Best Motion Picture, Comedy years ago over so many more deserving winners. That being said (again lel), The Martian was still a pretty good movie so it's not the end of the world. I still expect both The Martian and The Big Short to be nominated for Best Picture on Thursday for the Oscars as well as nearly all of the drama nominees from the Golden Globes.
