I've now come to realize that I despise "Shape of You" marginally more than "Don't Wanna Know."
I mean, the latter is basically the bare minimums in M5's part, but the same could be said for Ed's song. Like, the production is kinda lacking, Ed Sheeran's vocals are subdued. Besides that, it also has lines like "Your love was handmade for somebody like me," "although my heart is falling too," and in general, it's the type of song that doesn't quite fit in with the style of Ed's music. The rap-singing is nothing new to me, but he's done better with that tone in "Don't" and on some days, "You Need Me, I Don't Need You." Otherwise, "Shape of You" IMO is "Don't," but without the qualities that made the latter good. As for a few nitpicks, overplay killed it for me, and when I realized that it has a similar melody to "No Scrubs," it makes me wanna go back to that TLC song.

"Castle on the Hill" is at least a much better song. I didn't like it at first because it sounded too much like U2, but it grew on me within a couple months. To me, it's become more of a homage to U2 than a shameless rip-off, and for the most part, it gets right in what "7 Years" got wrong in the influential, past life reminisce narrative.
