As I switch on all of the power and lights in the local arcade, and fire up Separate Ways on the jukebox, I'd like to welcome all of you to this, the 9th edition of the SBC Community Mixtape! This is the series of threads where we all get together, bring our music collections, and throw songs from them into a metaphorical melting pot. This time, we're making a mixtape to accompany Arcade Anarchy II, with an appropriate theme: VIDEO GAME MUSIC What's your favorite game soundtrack? Mega Man? Castlevania? The static from the LJN Video Art? Whatever it is, that's sort of what we're looking for here. We want to do to game music what the Namco Museum series did to classic arcade games in general. It could be music actually from a game, or something that's fan-made about games (like most songs by Miracle of Sound). With how many of us in this community are gamers of some stripe, this should be an interesting one! The rules: Length limits per person: you have a total of 30 minutes worth of music to play with. (This site is great for calculating the times.) Due to the nature of this theme, we need to be prepared to do things differently this time, with regards to Spotify. As with the previous Mixtapes, you should still try to post all of your submissions as a Spotify playlist. However, since this is game music, I expect that some will be unavailable on Spotify. If this is the case, still try to post as many as you can through a Spotify playlist, and list separately in your reply what else you wanted to add, but isn't available on the site. If we have any entries of this type, we'll be posting Community Mixtape 9 to Youtube instead of Spotify. Joke/troll entries can and most likely will be excluded. No repeat entries (can't submit the same thing as somebody else). Most of all: have fun with it! Tentative deadline for submissions is Saturday, March 11th. Until then, I'll be grinding out my score on Bosconian in MAME!

Update on this: I'm currently in the (very painful) process of relearning everything I know about computing in order to figure out how to run Linux. This past weekend, I moved "WALL-E", my current laptop that hosts the 2UCW and VCAP servers over in YSFlight, from Windows 10 to Zorin OS. It's been a headache and a half to get the ball rolling, but once the two YS servers are back online, I'm going to do a pilot test of running an MC 1.12.2 server as well. Depending on how that turns out, we just might be looking at the launch of an SC 2.0 sooner rather than later. That's not a guarantee by any stretch, but it's something worth sharing nonetheless. Cross your fingers, y'all!

This time, let's get very high-energy with our new theme: RETRO ACTION MOVIE You know how The Weeknd's Blinding Lights was the song that, from 2020 onwards, made me and many others across the world want to speed down empty city streets past midnight? Think in those terms, and now that you're probably thinking of 1989, think even bigger. As the title suggests, we're looking for songs that evoke the feelings of a soundtrack from an 80s action movie. It could be from one of these movies, but more preferably, we want something modern that's going for a retro sound. Do you have what it takes to recreate the vibe of Halloween or Predator? Let's gather around the campfire and sing our campfire song, y'all, because it's time for the 7th edition of the SBC Community Mixtape! This is, of course, the occasional feature where we all get together, throw a bunch of songs in a pot, and see which ones... which ones, uhhh... which ones stick to the inside of the pot? Really, brain? Can we finish a metaphor for once? Well, with that said, our theme this time shall be: GUILTY PLEASURES As Todd in the Shadows once put it: "I don't mean I actually feel guilt for the things I like. That's stupid, especially for music, which doesn't really have to follow logic or anything like that. No, when I call something a guilty pleasure, all that means is, I have difficulty finding anything good to say about it, and I'm painfully aware of its faults." You got any songs in your collection that you aren't exactly proud to say you enjoy? Ones that you know are hated, but you still enjoy anyway? Well, that's what the bread and butter of this here playlist. I dare you to get as uncomfortably honest with your tastes as possible!
