Anyone remember this?  Such a cheesy spin-off to That's So Raven.  I kinda wonder why this didn't last longer while The Suite Life on Deck got to finish it's run.

I like to think that Suite Life on Deck got a full series because Debby Ryan's super attractive.

And I mean because That's So Raven was like a gozillion times better than this show.

Debby Ryan is good looking, I'll give you that.  But that could be said about any show not getting a full series. :P

And of course That's So Raven was way way better than this.  It's just during an era of mediocre live action Disney sitcoms, I don't understand why this was cancelled while worse shows survived.  Of course Hannah Montana survived because it made Disney tons of money, but what about others.

I remember this.

Funny it'd come up now, I just recently went into deep research of it. Apparently Z0NE made a porn parody of it.

You're probably deeply disturbed just by realizing that this exists, so I don't even need to link it! Sweet dreams!

Well, let's assume that downward-spiral of live-action TV started with Hannah Montana, because prior to that were all the "golden" shows (Suite Life, Phil of the Future, That's So Raven, ect).

Suite Life on Deck: More or less a direct continuation rather than a spin-off.  Kept the popular characters (barring Maddie, though I don't know why because Ashley Tisdale is still in-house because of Phineas and Ferb).  Debby Ryan's super attractive, and everyone loves Brenda Song and Phil Lewis.

Hannah Montana: Cash cow.

Wizards of Waverly Place: Selena Gomez.

Sonny With a Chance: Bombed out after two seasons.

JONAS LA: Bombed out after two seasons.

Current: Good Luck Charlie and Jessie are with established Disney Channel stars, Shake it Up is the new Hannah Montana, and I have absolutely no idea what's going on with the others (ANT Farm, Austin and Ally, Dog with a Blog), and then all the cartoons are as spot-on as they've always been but this isn't about the cartoons so that doesn't really matter.

The only semi-legitimate excuse I can think of for why this didn't last was because it didn't have any lasting appeal to it and because it didn't really need to exist (which is the only way I can legitimize this being canceled over On Deck because in all fairness On Deck established itself as needing to exist because it was about them going to school so they needed to end up graduating, and also because Suite Life was more Zack-focused so On Deck needed to balance it out by being more Cody-focused).  It gave us (Disney Channel) Jason Dolly though, so... that's something?

Wizards of Waverly Place was actually pretty good....until it introduced Bridgit Mendler and the vampires and tried to become more serious.  Like back in late Season 1 into a majority of Season 2 had a lot of witty writing and great humor.

Sonny With a Chance and JONAS both sucked.  They deserved to bomb out, or at least to me.

I will admit that I was excited for a continuation of The Suite Life initially.  But part of the problem was, like you stated, how heavily focused the show ended up being on Cody.  However, I thought The Suite Life of Zack and Cody was not more about Zack.  I thought they did a good job of sharing the focus on both brothers equally.

And I have no comment about current live action Disney except I enjoyed seeing The Muppets on Good Luck Charlie, despite me not being that high on the show.  Oh and I think Austin and Ally is very underrated.  It really isn't that bad compared to the other Disney sitcoms and even some of Nickelodeon's current sitcoms.  Also, they better not mess up Girl Meets World.  I am absolutely looking forward to that show whenever it airs.

Most definitely agree with the Wizards comment, but I think that was because they just tried to keep up with pop culture (I'd say it was so it wouldn't become "Harry Potter: The TV Show!" but they fully embraced the fact that that's what they were, which I suppose deserves some kudos).  Introducing the vampires/werewolves/angels was a really weird thing to do, but they also needed to fill in a bunch of episodes and having the same "spell -> spell goes haywire -> never mind" formula would've gotten boring.

Suite Life did do a pretty decent job at balancing, but Zack was the leader of the two and he was never really made out to be the butt-monkey like Cody was (or at least not nearly as often as Cody was).  He just seemed to have more things to do.  I didn't mind On Deck being more Cody-heavy, but I think the problem was that it became too Cody-heavy so it tipped the scale way out of whack to the point where I think they could've ditched Zack altogether and it wouldn't have changed a thing (whereas ditching Cody in Suite Life wouldn't have worked at all).

I can't comment on any of the newer shows because I just watch their cartoons, but I am pretty stoked for Girl Meets World, if only to see MILF Topanga.

And you make fair points about Wizards.  But I wouldn't have gotten tired of the same ole shtick....maybe. :P

Pretty much everyone else would have for sure though. THERE'S 104 DAYS OF SUMMER VACATION. Sound familiar?

While I agree that most people would've gotten tired of Wizards if it got too formulaic, comparing it to Phineas and Ferb isn't exactly fair because cartoon shows don't show plot progression (prime example being that Bart Simpson has been in 4th grade since before anyone on this site was born) so they're allowed to get away with the 104 DAYS OF SUMMER VACATION and anyone who complains about that should also be complaining about every other cartoon show that doesn't show progression.

Very true, but the relevance of the comparison was that P & F taught me that people get tired of repetitive premises in TV shows. I don't have it in me to criticize shows I barely know about.

Bump #2

The first episode I saw of this show had me laughing pretty hard, so I figured Cory wasn't all that bad. So I kept watching... and watching... and watching...

Turned out what I saw was the best episode of the entire show.

Long story short, Cory is entertaining, but rarely laugh out loud funny. I never watched That's So Raven so I really have no comment regarding whether or not Cory meets Raven's standards, but the consensus seems to be that Raven was the superior show so I'll just roll with that I guess.
