Ron
The premier building in the new World Trade Center complex is Freedom Tower (1WTC). The skyscraper is expected to be completed in early 2013, and is already over half full in terms of tenants. The building will stand at an iconic 1,776 feet, making it the third tallest building in the world. At 104 floors, it is six floors below the original Twin Towers, but still a mammoth of a building. Because Freedom Tower is going to be a terrorist target right off the bat, advanced tactics have been put into play and engineers of the tower say that it can withstand an airliner going through it like the Twin Towers did, but not collapse. With the way the floors, core of the building, and outside support are designed, Freedom Tower will be able to withstand a large earthquake (should a big one ever hit New York), heavy winds, as well as an airplane. No doubt the tower will become an icon in America, as a symbol of America's persevering economy. The complex will eventually consist of seven towers. Two World Trade Center: Three World Trade Center: Four World Trade Center (Completed): Five World Trade Center: Six World Trade Center: Future building designed by Frank Gehry Seven World Trade Center (Completed): At this point, only 7WTC, 4WTC, and 1WTC will be completed. To my knowledge, all other processes on the other buildings have been halted due to lack of tenants. What are your thoughts on these new buildings? I think they're all gorgeous and would absolutely love to work in one of them. These usher in a new age in American engineering. Thoughts?
Elastic Dawg
This is horrible, this idea.
William Leonard
I'm actually quite excited about this. Pretty much because I have always LOVED skyscrapers.
Clappy
Seven world trade centers? Didn't know that. I have heard about the 2013 release date of the Skyscraper though and I am definitely interested in seeing the final results.
Webizoid
I think it's interesting. But I'm not really sure this is what they should be putting their money towards.
Wumbo
God, do we really need seven? That just seems like overkill to me. And that last building looks as fragile as a sheet of glass.
Ron
Seven is actually how many there were last time. Well, six, considering there is no Six World Trade Center right now.
Wumbo
I just don't think we need to build seven again. It would be somewhat ironic if the symbols of America's persevering economy caused America to go further into recession.
Ron
I don't know how that would happen, considering right now, New York as a city has a surplus and funding has been provided entirely by Port Authority and private donators, which would have no affect on government. Wumbo
You have good points, I suppose. I still don't like the design of 7, though. It looks like it could be knocked down with a feather's touch.
Ron
Eh. It's actually a lot thicker than that picture entails: I dunno if that changes your opinions about it.
Wumbo
That's a little better. If I had to pick a favourite, 2 looks pretty cool.
Ron
I definitely agree, I think it's the building with the most personality. I've become obsessed with both Freedom Tower and 2WTC recently.
TJ
The buildings look awesome, especially the inside .
crushingmayhem
I went to the memorial a month ago. That building looked pretty tall, but that place felt strange when I got there. But places like this always gives us an odd feeling.
William Leonard
I still think that the old 2WTC looked cooler than the new one. If I had to pick a favourite, I like 5WTC the best.
Jellatine
These are really nice, Freedom Tower and 2WTC have the quality to become iconic pieces of architecture. The rest don't have anything "wow" about them.
