Number 1 Mysteries

Season 1

Pilot: Kindergarden Daze

It's the last week of Kindergarden at Green Yard Elementary School, and Smitty can't believe it. It seemed like just yesterday when he first walked through the doors and knew no one. Luckily, he met Clara and Dan on the first day, and they're now great friends of his. He also met Karl, the exchange student, during the second to last week of school. Unfortunately, he also met two other kids, one named Bourne, the other named Vex. Bourne was the child's last name, he was dropped on his head a couple years ago, and his parents died in a car crash, so no one could tell him his real name. His grandparents (who take care of him) were forgetful, and unfortunately, forgot his name. They called him "Born" because he was just born, it wasn't until Kindergarden, did he learn it was his actual last name, except spelled differently. Vex was called that because well.... He brought terrible luck to everywhere he went, and hated everyone except for a select few, so his pre-school teacher called him Vex for that, and it just stuck. Now, the last week of school, Smitty, Clara, and Dan all find out they're placed in different 1st grade classes, and are really bummed out, but, decide to live it up while they can, kindergarden style. Yep, cookies and a nap. Smitty went to his cubby and grabbed a plastic bag he had stashed away for a special day, this, was the day. He pulled the bag out, and opened it up, revealing 4 triple peanut butter and chocolate cookies. One for him, one for Clara, one for Dan, and he had offered one to Karl, but he declined, saying he's allergic. They were about to chow down, until Bourne and Vex showed up in front of them. Feeling left out, they wanted cookies as well, except Smitty didn't have any extras. Bourne and Vex exchanged looks, and nodded. They gave Fishian (they don't have Indians in the ocean) Sunburns to the three of them, then grabbed the cookies while the three friends were crying and holding their wrists. The teacher, Juun, ran over to check on them, except Bourne and Vex were right behind her, giving hand motions to Smitty basically saying he was gonna beat him up if he told, so Smitty, Clara, and Dan said nothing. Juun then got up in front of the class and announced that one of the 1st grade teachers will be on a materinty leave, and she has been asked to fill in for her. Turns out, that teacher was Smitty's teacher. Unfortunately, that teacher was also Bourne's.

Episode 2: The Great Snack Debate

It's the first day of 1st grade, and Smitty has been dreading this day all summer, thanks to Borne being here. During the day, he tries to hide in odd places when Borne walks by, such as cubby's. Unfortunately, it doesn't work, and Borne tells Smitty that he'll make him wish he never didn't give him a cookie. Smitty has no idea what he means by this, but he's extremely scared, so he asks his dad for advice. Ron tells him that he should never fight a bully, but if he was to, he should use that bully's weaknesses as access points to defeat him. Smitty thinks about what his dad said all through dinner, and all through the night, until he finally finds Borne's access point, and wonders why he didn't think of it sooner. When school begins, Borne is waiting for Smitty at the front door, telling him he didn't think he'd show up today. Smitty ignores him, but Borne doesn't care, since he can't ignore someone for 6 hours. When class starts, Juun wants to start things off with an open discussion about any topic against someone else, somewhat of a debate. Smitty is the first to raise his hand, and Junn asks what he would like to talk about and with who. He turns to Borne, sticks his tongue out and pulls his eyelid down, then tells his teacher he'd like to discuss snacks, and with Borne. Juun says that's an excellent idea, and the debate begins. Smitty debates that chocolate chip peanut butter cookies are the best, while Borne, who was about to do the same exact thing, goes with his back-up plan, which is debating that animal crackers are better. By saying his, he gets boo-ed by the entire class and Smitty aruges that the flavor of animal crackers is bland, while chocolate chip peanut butter cookies are soft, gooey, and all-around the best snack time food. Borne starts to sweat, because he's vowed never to lose in anything, and it seems like he's loosing. Through all the boo's, Smitty tells Borne to give up, but he tells Smitty to back off, and aruges that animal crackers, while bland, come in fun animal shapes, and never burn your tongue, since they are never hot. The boo's suddenly dwindle, and Smitty starts to sweat. Borne is on a roll, and continues to say that people can be allergic to chocolate chip peanut butter cookies, while no one can to animal crackers. The recent boo's turn into cheers, while Smitty starts to cry. Juun ends the debate, saying Borne has won, which leaves Smitty disappointed, realizing that there is no weak point in this bully, and decides to be a man and suck up his beatings for the rest of the year.

Episode 3: Story Time-thology 1: A Hero's Tale

It's storytime day in Juun's cla-ss, and to make everything fair, she tells her students that she'll pick names out of a hat, then that person will be removed from the hat, and so on, she hopes this will go on for a few months. She tells her students to write down their names on a strip of paper, and once that's done, she goes around to collect them all. Before she draws a name, she tells the cla-ss rules to storytime. They may read a story book already in the cla-ssroom, or they can think it up on the spot, it's their choice. The name she draws? Smitty. He's shocked that he gets to go first, but is also pressured, because if he messes up, then the rest of the cla-ss could stop liking him for whatever reason. He walks over to the bookshelf, kneels down, and skims through the book bindings, reading the sideways titles of them. Nothing. He gets up and sighs, then walks over to Juun to tell her what he'll be doing. She claps in excitement then says that this will be a good demonstration for what storytime will be like without a book. Juun walks over to her desk, drags her chair out and sets it in front of the chalkboard, then tells Smitty to hop up. Smitty jumps a few times, then finally gets his hands up on the seat, and able to slightly move his hands towards the armrests. Juun can see he's struggling, so she lowers it for him. He glares at her with the "I didn't need help" look, but he gets up all the same. He crosses his leg on the seat, takes a deep breath, and says the first thing that comes to his mind.

He tells a tale of a wandering man, who lives in the past. He's gone days without cookies, and feels as though his tummy will hurt even more than it does, forcing him to bend over a pillow (seriously, try placing a pillow above your stomach then bend over it, it really works (if you didn't already know that.)) Unfortunately, there are no pillows where he's from, everybody sleeps on clouds, and of course we all know, if you bend over on a cloud, it will stick to you like cotton candy, and this man didn't want to get his only shirt sticky. Just when he's about to start crying, he comes to a tall house. This house was owned by none other than the king of this land (really the King of the Lolipop Guild, but that's a different story .) The man begs the king for some of his chef's world famous Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies, but the king tells him that those cookies are for him and the people of his castle, no one else, no matter what. Later that night, a dragon flies over head to the castle, bursts through the walls, and kidnaps the queen! The king tries to wake his royal guards, but a wicked witch has cast a spell on them to sleep for 1 week, and nothing will be able to wake them. The king rushes out of his castle screaming, "HELP HELP!! MY WIFE HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED!" Of course, in the middle of the night, no one was awake to hear this. No one, except for the wandering man. He stumbled over to the king and told him he'd help, in exchange for all the cookies he can eat. The king tells him yes right away, and he leads the man into the kitchen. When the door to the kitchen is open, everything is made from sweets, the fridge is a giant marshmallow, the cupboards are chocolate bars, the ovens are peanut butter cups. The man asks the king where the cookies are, and he laughs, telling the man that the walls are the cookies! Immediately, the man runs into the kitchen, chomping on the walls nonstop for a good 10 minutes. When that time is up, the kitchen's walls are completely gone, and the man is full. Now that the eating is over, the king asks the man for his help in return. Before the king mentioned this again, the man had completely forgot about the help, and was hoping to get away with a tummy filled with cookies. The man comes up with an idea, and tells the king that he'll only help if he gives him all access to the castle at all times. The king screams "THAT WASN'T PART OF THE DEAL!!" so loud that his throat became scratchy. The man just shrugged saying take it or leave it. The knig sighed, and says he accepts, but pushes the man out of his castle with a sword, telling him either come back with his wife, or not at all.

The man starts wandering, again, thinking to himself "I could just run back to the castle and slice the king up.... I have a sword..." but shakes that thought away, and tells himself he'll march forward no matter what. He comes to a very dark area, where no one has heard of cookies, and everyone sleeps on rocks. At the end of this place, lies a forest, within that forest, lies the "Very Dark Castle of No Return." The man starts to quiver when he learns of this, but shakes that off as well, and marches forward. He comes to the castle, and notices the dragon flying overhead, circling the castle. The man goes up to the castle gates and rings the doorbell, which plays "Yankee Doodle." An ugly, green, bent-nose witch answers the door, and the man tells her straight up that he intends on capturing the queen, and killing the dragon as well. The witch cackles, saying "You may try... but you may not succeed..." The man looks at her puzzled, but notices her finger is pointing up, so he looks up at the sky, to notice the dragon is gone. He brings his head back to eye level, only to notice the dragon is staring him right in the face. He first runs for it, but stops and tells himself that he's gotta do what he's gotta do. So, in response to himself, he pees his pants. He slaps himself, then tells himself AGAIN, he's gotta do what he's gotta do, so, he heads back for the castle. He charges the dragon straight on, then lunges at him with his sword. The dragon tail swips him to the ground, and blows flames across the forest, almost hitting the man, had he not ducked. The man charges the dragon again, who snorts in the mans face, blowing him back 1000ft., and away from the castle. That day ends, and he has lost. The man goes back the next day to the king, who asks if he brought the queen back. The man says not yet, but once he gets a suit of armor, he'll be ready. The king sighs, then closes the door for 5 minutes, and comes back with the finest suit of armor anyone could own. The man travels back to the castle, and challenges the dragon again. He charges the dragon, this time, side-stepping his snort, and chopping off the tail. Now with the dragon in extreme pain, the man strikes the dragons chest, only to be blocked by the witch, who casts a spell on the dragon, giving him skin like steel. The man grinds his teeth, but continues to fight. The fight goes back and forth for well over an hour, and when the witch has had enough, she enchants some plants to trip the man on his backstep. Now, with the man on his back, the plants ensnare his arms and legs, making him unable to move, but he still holds his sword and enough wrist room to lift it and cut the plants. The dragon stomps over to the man, bends down, and takes in a huge breath of air. At this point, the man struggles to get free, and he knows if he can get one part of his body free, he can save himself. The dragon exhales a mighty flame onto the man, who finally shimmies his wrist enough to loosen the plants, enabling him to cut them, freeing his a-

The bell rings, Friday is over, and the weekend begins. Everyone, even Bourne, wants Smitty to continue the story. He tells them all he will some other time. After cla-ss Smitty is the only one left who hasn't fully packed up yet, and Juun walks over to him and asks, "So... what happens?" Smitty laughs and says, "Not sure, whatever popped into my mind first, I suppose." Juun tells Smitty to have a great weekend. Actually, Smitty did know how it was going to end. He was glad the bell rang when it did.

[align=center]GREEN YARD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PINEWOOD DERBY

THIS SATURDAY

9am-3pm

Refreshments will be served[/align]

That notice was pinned against the bulletin board inside JuunÔÇÖs room. After the bell rang, she encouraged her students to try it, though it only stuck to a few kids; Smitty, Klara, Dan, Karl, Borne, and Vex. After school, Borne and Vex discussed strategies on how to build the ultimate pinewood derby car, while SmittyÔÇÖs gang were busy discussing how to even BUILD a pinewood derby car. Klara suggests they go ask SmittyÔÇÖs dad, Ron, who was a renowned pinewood derby-er back in the day, winning many tournaments, and even becoming second best in the entire sea bottom. At his house, when Smitty asks his dad about it, he completely breaks down and acts extremely weird, dancing around the question by asking Smitty and his friends anything he can think of. Once he begins to sweat, Smitty and his friends know theyÔÇÖre out of luck, so they decide to just try it for themselves.

They arrive at the Pacific Sea Bottom Arts and Crafts store, and begin to lurk around; looking for anything they may need to build a pinewood derby car. Unfortunately, Dan runs into Borne, while Karl runs into Vex; Borne and Dan both want the same weight, while Karl and Vex want the same wood. After an intense stare down competition, two fourth graders who are also entered in the pinewood derby come by and pick up both the weight and wood, enraging all four of them. Karl suggests to Dan that they work together with Borne and Vex, so they can take out the two fourth graders, which Dan thinks is a great idea. However, Borne and Vex both laugh out loud at even the thought of working together, and walk away in tears of hysterics. Karl and Dan both sulk back to Smitty and Klara, explaining to them why they couldnÔÇÖt get the correct weight and wood, so they had to pick out the only ones they had left, which were already outdated. While walking out of the store, the foursome sees Bourne and Vex laughing with the two fourth graders. When questioned about it, Borne tells Dan and Karl that the fourth graders and VexÔÇÖs older brothers, who decided to help out in the pinewood derby. This enrages Dan and Karl more than it does Smitty and Klara, but theyÔÇÖre angry just the same.

After arriving back at SmittyÔÇÖs house, the four friends head down to the basement and begin work on their car. Hours into their work, Ron returns from work and is told by his wife Katie that Smitty and his friends are downstairs working on a pinewood derby car, which freaks Ron out. Katie tells him to snap out of it and to grow up, which enrages Ron, causing him to storm out of the house and go for a drive.

The day of the pinewood derby arrives, and luckily for Smitty, he and his friends are just putting the finishing touches on their car. At the gym, the competition begins to appear; Borne, Vex and his older brothers, two second graders, a few third graders, and more fourth graders. They also notice the cars; BorneÔÇÖs team has a red and black car shaped like a lightning bolt; two second graders have a car with an extremely rounded front and an elongated body, with the back jutting upwards; the third graders built a blue and white car with a round front thatÔÇÖs carved out to make room for a driverÔÇÖs seat; and the other fourth graders also have a lightning bolt shaped car, which means VexÔÇÖs older brothers mustÔÇÖve built their car, Smitty thinks.

Round 1 begins with Borne and his team against Smitty and his team. BorneÔÇÖs car easily beats SmittyÔÇÖs with a time of 31 seconds to 45. Luckily, itÔÇÖs double elimination, so Smitty and his friends still have a shot.

As the derby progresses, Smitty and his friends just barely inch by in their matches, leading up to the final match against Borne, Vex, and Vexs older brothers. During the five minute break, Ron shows up and offers Smitty a little enhancement for his car; something that helped him out during his pinewood derby phase. After a few seconds, Ron returns the car to his son, now with a busted up decal that says Number 1 on the left side of it. Smitty and his friends ponder what that could do, but they dont care. During the first race, Smittys car wins by a nose, making it a tie; whoever wins the next race wins the whole thing. Bornes team laughs hysterically at Smitty and his friends praising the new decal, saying they only won that race because the wheels hadnt been oiled all day and began to stick. The final race starts, and the cars are launched. Smittys seems to be trailing behind, with Bornes quickly moving in on the finish line. However, just when all seems lost, Smittys car bridges the gap between his and Bornes car, and passes it by a nose, just barely passing the finish line first. Borne solemnly congratulates Smitty as he collects his car and walks away crying, which Smitty, Klara, Dan and Karl receive a trophy and a coloring book for each of them, complete with crayons and colored pencils, as well as a pin that says Number 1 for the team captain, Smitty.

Episode 5: Moving Up in the World

ItÔÇÖs ÔÇ£graduation dayÔÇØ for the first graders, but because theyÔÇÖre just moving up to the second grade, Juun decides to just throw a party for her class, with sugary treats and soda galore. While Smitty and Klara ask Karl how it is at Green Yard, Dan is busy at the soda table chugging down Kelpa-Kola and devouring multiple pieces of candy at once. Smitty asks Karl what it was like at his old school, since theyÔÇÖve never really talked about stuff like that. Karl tries to recollect his short-lived memories of his old school, Ocean Bay, but because he left partway through the year, he canÔÇÖt really recall much aside from the fact that they didnÔÇÖt have nap time, recess, or sugary treats because it was a school for gifted children, so he never got to experience the luxuries that public school has, even though heÔÇÖs always been superior to public school attendees. Noticing he said heÔÇÖs never had any sugary treats at school, Klara asks if heÔÇÖs ever had one at all. At first, Karl is ready with an answer, but as he thinks harder, he realizes he hasnÔÇÖt. Sure, he had the peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie at the end of kindergarten, but that was one time; heÔÇÖs never felt a sugar rush of any kind, or tasted any sweet treat, save the peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie. Simply astonished that heÔÇÖs never had one, Klara walks over to the snack table, while watching an extremely sugar-high Dan begin to do the electric slide to the beat of ÔÇ£Eye of the TigerÔÇØ, and grabs a hand full of gummy bait, bite-sized chocolate bars, and any other assorted candy treats Karl may find scrumdidliumptious. Walking back over to Karl, Klara is caught in a ÔÇ£no-handsÔÇØ conga line walking straight towards Dan, whoÔÇÖs about to jump from the tallest cabinet in the room onto the pile of kids and attempt to crowd surf his way into a bowl of punch. Fortunately for her, Juun caught Dan in the air, so she was able to head out of the conga line and back to Karl. Just as sheÔÇÖs about to hand the candy to Karl, Bourne and Vex show up from the adjacent side of Klara and swipe the candy from her hand, splitting it amongst them and shoving it into their own mouths. This causes Klara to fall to the ground and start a tantrum, which Dan quickly gets in on and coins it as the hottest new dance crazy, ÔÇ£The TantÔÇØ. He soon gets the whole class, excluding Bourne, Vex and Juun, to get in on it somehow, which cheers Klara up a bit. Smitty tells Juun what Bourne and Vex did, but unfortunately, all she tells him is that thereÔÇÖs plenty more candy where that came from so it shouldnÔÇÖt matter. Perhaps she was busy trying to calm Dan down before he dove headfirst into a bucket of Kwazi Gummy Candy Fish that she didnÔÇÖt have time to sympathize.

As the day draws to a close, Dan slowly begins to wake up underneath the punch bowl in a fettle position saying ÔÇ£IÔÇÖm the prettiest Dan-dolion in the worldÔÇ over and over again, and the rest of the class heads for their cubbies to pack their gear before walking through the door one last time. Just as the kids are about to leave, Juun realizes she forgot to give them their teacher assignments for next year. Klara, Dan and Karl are all in the same class, along with Bourne. Vex and Smitty, however, are in the same class, that is being taught by Juun. Confused as to how this could happen, Juun reveals that she has been asked to teach a second grade class, as one of the teachers has retired unexpectedly and itÔÇÖs too late in the school year to find another teacher, so the school asked her to turn her class into a first and second grade classroom, which she accepted immediately. Although Smitty is being taught by Juun again for the third year in a row, heÔÇÖs also been with Vex for the same amount of time. As he bids adieu to Karl, Klara and Dan, he hopes that they won't be so busy with their new friends that they can hang out again sometime, which all three of them promise they'll always have time for Mr. Number 1.

Wow that was short.

Episode 6: The Hunters [Part 1]

After a PTO meeting, the parents and staff decide it would benefit the children if they were to go on a field trip to jellyfish fields, much to the dismay of Principal Jefferson. Unfortunately, with the numbers against him, Jefferson gives in and announces the next day over the PA system that the entire school will be going on a field trip to jellyfish fields in Bikini Bottom. As JuunÔÇÖs class bursts out in joy because of the trip, Smitty is just happy that he gets to spend time with his friends again. For an extra surprise, Juun decides to make this field trip more entertaining and turns it into a scavenger hunt, and whoever finds the most items on the list will win a secret prize. For Smitty, this is bad news all around, because heÔÇÖs not allowed to talk to students in any other class, and he gets paired with Vex. For the time being, Vex offers a truce with Smitty, because he canÔÇÖt win with them constantly fighting, which Smitty agrees to.

When they get to jellyfish fields, Juun hands everyone in her class a list that has the following items on it:

- Jelly from a jellyfish

- A jellyfish net

- An autograph from a Jelly-Spotter

- A picture next to a hive

- A jellyfish

- The exact number of jellyfish in the fields

- The exact number of jelly produced by jellyfish per year

After reading it over again, Smitty canÔÇÖt help be stumped at how Juun thinks they should know the last two, so he decides to ask her about them. Juun tells Smitty, and the rest of the class, that the last two are somewhere in the fields like the others, so they just have to find them.

Vex tells Smitty they should split up the list and look around by themselves for the items, and then rendezvous back at the bus. As Smitty has no better ideas, he reluctantly agrees to the plan, and decides to tackle the bottom four; a picture next to a hive, a jellyfish, the exact number of jellyfish in the field, and the exact number of jelly produced by jellyfish per year. Several minutes pass in exploration, and Smitty begins to think heÔÇÖs lost, and also begins to question how heÔÇÖs going to capture a jellyfish, or take a picture if he doesnÔÇÖt have a net or a camera. While thinking of a solution, Smitty stumbles upon a randomly placed camera in the middle of the fields right next to a hive. After closer inspection, he notices thereÔÇÖs no timer on the camera, meaning heÔÇÖd have to climb up the tree to and take the picture himself, which heÔÇÖd do, if he wasnÔÇÖt afraid of heights, so he decides to take the camera with him and postpones that until later.

Vex isnÔÇÖt having much luck with this either, and slowly begins to become a savage after being isolated from civilization for so long [about ten minutes.] Minutes later, he begins to fasten a spear out of a stick and decides to use it to poach jellyfish. After successfully skewering several jellyfish, he hides out in a nearby empty hive for the day. A few minutes later, Bourne passes by the tree Vex is hiding in, and is quickly taken in, against his will, of course. However, over several seconds, Bourne turns into a savage as well, and teams up with Vex in order to take control of jellyfish fields.

Why does Word make everything seem longer than it actually is? >.>

Jellyfish Fields

Population: 4,162 78

The clock strikes 3pm, and Principal Jefferson calls in all the students to get back on the bus and go home. Unfortunately, heÔÇÖs held up by JuunÔÇÖs class counting up how many items each pair has found. Of course, Smitty ended in last place with only the picture next to the hive, while the team of Aiden and Ben come in first place, finding every item on the list. For winning, they each receive a packet of stickers and a coloring book for each of them, complete with colored pencils and crayons, as well as the privilege to color them on the way home. Luckily, everyone gets something just for bringing back items on the list, and Smitty ends up going home with a pencil topper with a jellyfish giving a thumbs up saying ÔÇ£YouÔÇÖre almost mediocre!ÔÇØ to which he sighs, then power walks onto the bus in order to hide his shame of getting the least amount of items, and losing their partner; must be a new record, he thought. As Juun calls off attendance, she notices Vex isnÔÇÖt on the bus, and when BourneÔÇÖs teacher reports that heÔÇÖs not there as well, they both know somethingÔÇÖs up. Principal Jefferson gets word of two missing children and knew something like this would happen, but resists a ÔÇ£Nah-nah-nah-nah-nahÔÇØ dance and tells the bus drivers not to leave until everyone is on their respective bus. As Juun and Mrs. Pell search for their students, Smitty decides to take action into his own hands, even though Vex cost him the scavenger hunt. As he rounds up Dan, Klara and Karl, Smitty wonders how heÔÇÖll even manage to retrieve Vex and Bourne, but decides to cross that bridge when he comes to it. After all four friends are together, they begin to devise a plan; scare Vex and Bourne back to the bus. Unfortunately, they donÔÇÖt know what to use to scare the two back to the bus, but they know it has to be threatening. To begin their plan, Dan suggests they split up to try and find something, to which everyone agrees to.

Klara starts her search off on the wrong foot, as she immediately steps on a jellyfish, severely damaging her right foot, prompting her to burst into tears for the next five minutes. After the crying is done, she starts her REAL search for. Whatever it may be, and walks to the east She thinks.

Dan, luckily, is having a better time than Klara as he soon meets up with a Jelly-Spotter, whom he asks about the King and Queen Jellyfish. After hesitating, the Jelly-Spotter tells Dan everything he knows about the two rulers of the jellyfish, and explains that the king has a sweet tooth for pie, while the queen can only be called out by blowing through a special whistle that shouts ÔÇ£LoserÔÇØ, though itÔÇÖs been recorded that itÔÇÖs extremely unreliable and should never be tested. Nevertheless, the Jelly-Spotter gives Dan the whistle as per request, and watches the second grader run away to catch up to his friends.

Karl has had no real progress in his search, but has found several strange tracks going off in different directions, and then looping back the way they came. Upon closer inspection, he notices that the tracks end at the base of a tree, peeking his curiosity. After a couple jumps, he realizes heÔÇÖs too short to reach the tree hole, and sulks away, thinking of how to get in the tree.

Smitty comes up right behind Karl [unknowingly] and follows those same tracks to that same tree, and, being a couple inches taller than Karl, has more success in peering inside the tree hole. Smitty stares into a room full of captured jellyfish, along with several makeshift spears. Vex and Bourne, he thinks to himself. As he tries to run back to tell the others where Vex and Bourne are so they can attempt to scare them back to the bus, SmittyÔÇÖs foot gets caught on a tree root just as the two savages carrying multiple jellyfish over their shoulders in a sling, symbolizing another successful hunt for them. Seeing Smitty on the ground, scrambling to get away, Bourne bursts into laughter while Vex tells Smitty to go on and leave him and Bourne be, as theyÔÇÖre happier as savages than they ever were as normal fish. Not knowing what to do, Smitty begins to cry, which causes Vex to laugh, and louder laughter from Bourne. After he collects himself and brushes his clothes, Smitty runs away back to the buses with tears trickling from his cheek, flying back to the tree. For a second, he stops and turns back to Vex and Bourne who are both getting back into the tree hole to put their captures in an uncomfortable cage and shouts, ÔÇ£WE HAD A TRUCE.ÔÇØ Upon hearing this, Vex is shocked for a second and doesnÔÇÖt know how to react, so he doesnÔÇÖt and just goes on with what he was already doing, and when he looks back, Smitty is already gone.

Back at the buses, Dan, Klara, Karl and Smitty all meet back up, and all lie about what happened because without knowing it, theyÔÇÖre all thinking the same thing: No more torture. Klara, Karl and Dan all walk back onto their bus, with Dan quickly slipping the whistle into his back pocket, and Smitty regretfully informs Juun about their lack of success. With a sigh, Juun and Mrs. Pell both converse with Principal Jefferson on what to do with the current situation, as itÔÇÖs getting late and theyÔÇÖre not allowed to keep the students passed 4pm without parental consent. Principal Jefferson decides the best solution is to declare the students lost and hold a PTO meeting the following night to discuss the matter there, as well as call an assembly for the students and explain the situation to them. Juun and Mrs. Pell are unable to think of any better ideas, so they reluctantly go with Principal JeffersonÔÇÖs idea.

Driving back to school, Smitty looks out the window of his bus, back at the tree that is now the new home of Vex and Bourne, and begins to wonder what will happen to them. To his surprise, Aiden and Ben both walk in front of him and ask if he wants to color with them, knowing he must be sad about not finding his friend. At first, Smitty is caught off guard at the word ÔÇ£friendÔÇØ, referring to Vex, but the longer he colors, the more he realizes that could be the correct term to use when describing him.

Mr. Neptune

The 21 year old sub writes his name on the chalkboard, dusts his hands off, and then stands up in front of the class. At first, the kids donÔÇÖt know whatÔÇÖs going on, but after a simple explanation from Neptune, the kids know whatÔÇÖs happening: heÔÇÖs replacing Juun. Up until lunch, Smitty spends the entire class glaring at Neptune, thinking of ways to get rid of him and have Juun back. Unfortunately, he canÔÇÖt think of anything and goes off to lunch with a melancholy mood. After telling Karl, Klara and Dan of the situation, they vow to help Smitty get rid of Neptune, and spend the entire recess period devising ways to get him fired. At first, they think of nothing, but soon enough, Karl suggests that they should just misbehave and he wonÔÇÖt be able to handle it, and then quit so Juun will have her job back. Everyone thinks that itÔÇÖs a great idea, and decide to execute it.

After recess, Smitty waltz into class with a bit of spring in his step and immediately tells everyone of the plan before Neptune comes back from his lunch break. They all agree to it, and set the time of execution for 1:30. Neptune comes into class, sets his bag down on his desk, and then brings over his swivel chair to sit on. Not a word. Five minutes go by, and he finally breaks the silence by telling the class that even though he doesnÔÇÖt look it, heÔÇÖll be king of the sea someday, and that his descendants will continue his legacy. At first, no one knows what to say, mostly because theyÔÇÖre in second grade and have no clue what heÔÇÖs talking about, but a minute after, Smitty approaches him and gives him a hug, saying that he aspires to be number one someday, so he supports NeptuneÔÇÖs conquest. Speechless, Neptune doesnÔÇÖt know what to do, and begins to feel tears well up in his ducts. Soon after, the rest of the class gets up and follows SmittyÔÇÖs lead, telling him that if he believes in them, they believe in him. After completely breaking down in tears, Neptune thanks each student, and after a couple minutes of recuperating, goes on with teaching.

1:25. The class practices cursive while Neptune reads the newspaper. Smitty anxiously waits for the clock to strike 1:31, as he does not want to go through with the plan and hopes that his friends feel the same. Neptune tells the class heÔÇÖll be back in a few minutes and that they should continue with their cursive. After he leaves, the entire class breaks out into discussion on whether or not they should go through with the plan. Even though they all support Neptune, half the class still wants Juun back, while half the class wants Neptune to stay. When Neptune comes back, discussion ceases with no decision made, the side that doesnÔÇÖt want Juun to come back awaits to see if the other side feels the same.

1:30 strikes and Karl, Klara and Dan burst through the doors armed with pencils and pens, as well as rolls of toilet paper. The half that wants Neptune out joins the three in turning the room upside down. Neptune is shocked and appalled that the kids would do something like this, and that kids from another class were helping them. Just when he couldnÔÇÖt get any angrier, he hears someone shout for Smitty to join in. Neptune ferociously turns around and glares at Smitty, who gives an awkward smile at first, but NeptuneÔÇÖs ferocity scares him to the point of crying. Solemnly, Neptune says heÔÇÖs extremely disappointed in Smitty, and the rest of the class for that matter, and walks away with his face red.

The next day, Juun is back in her class and explains to the kids that she was out sick for the day because she had a very high fever, but sheÔÇÖs fine now. Upon hearing this, Smitty, as well as the rest of the class, are dumbfounded that they ever thought that Juun would be replaced. However, Smitty is the only one that feels any sort of remorse for enraging Neptune, and releases a tear from either eye that fall down his cheek.

God that sucked. But hooray for foreshadowing!
