Macseed
Okay, in "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost", the Flying Dutchman haunted the seven seas because he was never put to rest. In "The Curse of Bikini Bottom", the Flying Dutchman had a tombstone. Did he get laid to rest inbetween eps or something, or is it just a mistake in canon? Stupid discontinuity. MMM
The books you read about ghosts aren't always 100% true...
Cha
Maybe people finally laid him to rest. In the SB Comics #13 I think he's who he is because he never had love. When he actually gets it, he turns back into a normal pirate man.
crushingmayhem
Well, you have to take into account that Spongebob doesn't follow a direct storyline since it's usually a branch of unrelated episodes. But it's a possibility, although I doubt he was laid to rest permanently because he could've easily escaped his tomb to return to roaming the seas; it mostly depends on what storyline the creators give to him.
