Japanese Plankton

The voice of Purankuton (プランクトン), the Japanese Plankton, has a female voice if you didn't know. The only exception is in the first SpongeBob movie, where he has a male voice. In SOoW, though, he has a female voice once more.

In Japan, the Japanese tend to think that small things must have small tiny voices, so they probably gave Plankton a girl's voice to emphasize how small he is. In other words, it's a cultural change.

Either way, it's hilarious to watch Plankton with a little girl voice trying to steal the secret formula.

プランクトンはとてもかわいいですよ!

Seriously though that high pitch voice threw me off hardcore when I first heard it. Plankton is too kawaii for me. xD

Also, I was right about Patrick having a female voice in Japanese. Though he does for some reason have a male voice in the second movie, this is what he normally sounds like... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eqN2FVyqtc

Ask and you shall receive:

Patrick's voice is normally voiced by Ikuko Tani, an elderly Japanese woman. She's also known for her role as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter films.

In the first movie, he is voiced by Takashi Nagasako, a male, who also voices Donkey Kong and Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

In the second movie, he is voiced by Mitsuki Kanuka, a male.

I think I would be more surprised about this had I not just read something about how in Japanese culture, cats are usually voiced by females (read that on Kiki's Delivery Service's Wikipedia page, but it did have a source to backup the claim: http://www.stomptokyo.com/movies/kikis-delivery-service.html). Since cats are smaller creatures too, I basically put two and two together.

...plus there's this:
