A STORY BY DISCOVERY CHANNEL AND HISTORY TELEVISION

In Abbotsford, British Columbia, Several crimes take place involving childn murdered in their beds, strangled with a rope.

Homicide Officer - Robert Fox: The question was, were these murders connected, or not?

Soon the case made the headlines on the front pages, media from all over the world arrived at the shocking news. The case soon became one of the largest manhunts in Canadian History.

This is the story of Canada's most infamous Serial Killer... The Boogeyman.

It all started in the spring of March 23, 1977. Ashley Ortero, was going to bed. Her parents were in the bedroom across. At around 1:30 AM, a strange figure emerges from her window, the man enters. The man forcefully began strangling Ashey with a rope, the attacker prevented her from crying for help, however he fails. Her parents rush to the bedroom, but the attacker jumps out the window, and runs off into the night.

Ashley is taken to the hospital, at the same time. The Abbotsford Police analyze the crime scene, checking for fingerprints. The next day, Ashley passes away, the bruises to her neck were to severe, and the inside of her throat was damaged beyond repair due to the pressure on the rope.

Homicide Officer - Robert Fox: At first we thought this was a randomized event. This was not common in Abbotsford, this was new to the officers, and the public.

David Rogers a 29 year old serving in the Abbotsford Police Department, and the youngest of the officers leads the case. With over 300 officers within his Task Force, he begins exploring deeper into the crime scene.

David Rogers: The crime scene was brutal, and you could tell just by observing the surroundings. Pillows, blanket, toys, were all on the ground, there were a few blood stains on the pillow, and the bed. We knew right away, that this wasn't going to be an easy case to solve, especially with very little evidence to go by.

Police in Abbotsford, begin questioning witnesses. However none had the information they were looking for, and none seemed to know enough about the crime, to be even considered suspects.

2 weeks later... another shocking attack takes place...

Part 2 coming soon...

Saw this on Discovery Channel at midnight, I thought this would be an interesting story to share. I'm starting to think this is why the name "Boogeyman" is known by so many, and probably what inspired creators to create horror stories to scare children.
