  1. I saw most of the animated movies in 2015 and only saw one or two live action films from 2015, so I'll list the best animated films.

    1. Inside Out

I think it needs no further explanation. A well-crafted film with a great script that contains a lot of depth and dramatic moments. Liked the allegory to depression throughout the story and the wizards at Pixar went above and beyond in general. Only real issue are a few small plot holes. A return to form for Pixar and hopefully their following films are more like this. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was and it caught me entirely off-guard.

    2. Shaun the Sheep Movie

I'm shocked this movie flew under the radar and wasn't as appreciated as it should be. It's another gem from Aardman, containing beautiful animation, great writing and surprising emotional moments. Even more impressive is how the film has no dialogue and is still able to craft a believable story with great characters.

    3. The Peanuts Movie

While the script has it's issues, it's incredibly faithful to Schulz' work in not just animation, but in the characterization and general feel. It has a lot of heart and some funny humor and stays true to the classic formula. The animation is also astounding and a technical achievement. It looks exactly like the classic comics, just translated into computer animation. The art department and animators knocked it out of the park on this one.

    4. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water

This is the most polarizing animated film of the year to me personally. I loved it at first and thought it was a return to form for SpongeBob but upon further re-watch the problems start to seep through the cracks.

While I adore the lovely traditional animation, the movie at it's core was very flawed and I can't help but feel like Viacom meddled with it significantly.

I still concur that the CGI/Live-Action scenes come out of nowhere and break the entire flow of the movie and they were just there for marketing and selling toys.

I'd love to see the original animatic for the movie before Viacom got more involved.

I'll list the flaws of the film: the pacing is very off. There is zero breathing room and there are a lot of odd character motivations that are dropped and weird leaps in logic, even for SpongeBob. For example: the time travel sequence is immediately forgotten. While fun it was largely inconsequential and only used for Bubbles to reappear towards the climax. The rest of the gang trying to kill SpongeBob is immediately forgotten and that would've made for some great drama and character interaction. It's just weird. The film shifts from one idea to the next and they should've focused on once. Plankton being framed for stealing the formula was compelling, so was an apocalyptic Bikini Bottom after SpongeBob. The characterization of SpongeBob is also very flawed. He's not annoying like he was in much of the post-movie episodes but is still pretty stupid. He's supposed to be this child-like guy who's very misguided and naive. They only nail some of that. Patrick's is also awful and he's a complete asshole and it's hard to watch. I get it's a cartoon but I wouldn't wanna be friends with someone who stabbed me in the back and tried to kill me.

  2. So the script for "Patrick's Closet" is nearly complete so it's about time to start looking for people to assist with production. Now I'm not gonna force anyone who doesn't want to work on it, this is basically just a thread where people can audition in a sense to work on it. Basically if you're interested you can post what position you're interested in and then PM me some of your work and then do a test.

    Here are what I need:

    -Voice actors:

*Need a decent microphone and a pop filter and some sort of acoustic foam or something to block out outside noise, like a blanket. You also of course need to be a good actor and accentuate your lines and have a good impression of whatever character you will be voicing. Will record lines via a Skype call with me and Nuggets (if he wants to). I'm assuming we'll send lines via Google Docs.

    Storyboard Artists:

*You need to be a good artist who can nail cartoony/stylized art and be able to draw on model (within the boundaries of my model sheets), be able to compose/stage shots and have a general knowledge of storyboarding. I'm hoping you send your work digitally and in a program I use so I can modify work. Add me on Skype so we can converse and have a general idea of what we want. I'll be doing the storyboards, or at least most of them so whoever gets hired will likely be doing clean up (taking my rough drawings and cleaning up the outlines and generally polishing them)

    Background Artists:

*Basically you should be able to paint well and draw landscapes well.

    Additional Artists:

Basically just whatever additional art we'll need, be it model sheets, props, easter eggs or grotesque close ups. A Skype would be nice.

    Animator:

*You need to be a good artist who can draw on model as well as have a solid understanding of animation. You'll have to be using Flash as that's the only animation software I'll have and I can modify it/give notes. Add me on Skype.

I'll be doing as much of the animation as I can so you'll be more of an assistant animator, and that can be anything from rough, to clean up, to coloring or compositing.

    Layout Artist:

*Take the storyboards and make them look exactly on model and as clean as possible and add camera information. These basically function as the keyframes for animation and will be done after the voices are recorded.

    Audio Editing:

*Have a solid understanding of audio editing and make the episode sound nice.

    Video Editor:

*Basically just edit the episode and then export it and then we'll upload it on Youtube.

    Animal Wrangler:

    *Just in case.

    Music:

*Well, compose and write music that sounds good and fits the scene. A Skype would be nice.

    Sound Effects:

*Make sound effects and shit, I dunno.

Majoring in communications, and idk whether to minor in film studies or Political Science.

You should study film. From my experience working with you on the fan episode I think you'd make a fantastic writer and you clearly are very passionate about it.

  4. That sucks ass. I love h3h3's videos and it's ridiculous how copyright laws are being handled and that they have to go through all this just because they made fun of someone's video. Best of luck to Ethan and Hila and I hope they win the suit.

Please donate to them. They deserve all the money they can get.

  5. Alright, this has the potential now to be great. Not entirely sold, but Dory's character arc looks very compelling. Really hope they nail this as this could be a great film and a worthy sequel.

    Because that's the joke?

That drawing just looks poor and very off model. I'm not a huge fan of PPG but I know when something is off model.

In general I hate the art style for the show. The thin, whispy outlines, the incidental characters having completely different designs, etc.

The original series had thick, bold UPA outlines that evoked a sense of boldness and sharpness and that is completely ruined now.

I kept hearing about the controversy about the episode with the pony completely fucked up the concept of transgender people.

I assumed the controversy was just people annoyingly overthinking, but I went and watched the episode, and... yeah, it was baaaaaaaaaaaad. What's amazing is that basically EVERYONE is pissed off at it, and the fact that the PPG crew was stupid enough to shoehorn a politically progressive episode only a few episodes into the series is really sad. There's a difference between Steven Universe getting into the LGBT zone after they've already developed the characters and storyline to the point where they have the right to do it, and then there's this show which just tries WAY too hard by doing something as dumb as this.

It doesn't help that the show was already lame as hell outside of the controversy.

I find it pathetic how they seem to care more about being progressive than making a good/faithful show to the reboot first and foremost. LGBT stuff can come later.

  8. Looks okay... not offensive or anything just incredibly mediocre and bland. I did like the set up with the gorilla and his father, that might be interesting.

Also I know the entire plot of the movie thanks to the trailer. :/

  9. I think I'm at the point where I want to put this back into production. I think I'm gonna do another pass of the script, and then hopefully I'll spend the next couple months to a year working on my foundational drawing skills, assuming I ever get to the point where I can draw again.
