  1. Gone is terrible episode. Though I don't hate it as much as other certain episodes, it's still pretty low quality in my eyes, all things considered. I agree with Hippy, this episode is aimless mess, which was really mediocre at best even before godawful ending happened. Nothing much to say, except that this ending feels like some kind of rejected edgy parody skit, like from Robot Chicken, and not something that was produced for the show itself.

Squidward's School for Grown-Ups has really interesting concept, Patrick and Squidward bonding over growing up and SpongeBob being the third wheel isn't the most awful idea ever and could've been executed nicely. Problem is, that this episode isn't executed nicely. It's either boring or annoying with no in-between. I don't really HATE it per say, since most of s8 just puts me to sleep rather than triggers any emotional response, but I still strongly dislike it.

  2. FishBowl.

I personally like this episode, not one of the strongest 9b outings, but it's enjoyable to watch for me. It's hard to explain to actually why I enjoy it, but somehow Squidward wanting ice-cream makes me chuckle and Sandy examining SpongeBob's and Patrick's behavior is really interesting to watch for me. Patrick was an ass, but it wasn't wasn't his worst portrayal, besides, SpongeBob could stand up for himself this time so I didn't really mind it.

    Pineapple Fever.

    welp it's bad

Lots of slow and going nowhere gags, lack of any kind of focus... SpongeBob, Pat and Squdiward going crazy didn't felt earned since it was pretty abrupt. They were normal seconds ago then presto, they behave like wild animals for some reason. I will give this episode credit, it has atmosphere that I kinda like, one SpongeBob expression is sorta amusing and concept of the episode, while not the most original idea, had some potential to be executed well. So I guess, while this is episode is bad, there's tons of episode, from season 6 alone, which were much worse.

  3. You can call me crazy, but I genuinely think that Sonic's design and general awfulness of the trailer is intentional marketing stunt. I have my reasons for believing that:

    1) If they are changing thr design, even if not majorly, it will take a lot of time and effort to actually redo animations and stuff like that. In 6 months time span this is actually impossible. Either changes will be extremely minor or date will be moved. OR there was appealing design all along and they don't have to do anything. CGI in trailer, let' be real, looked cheap as fuck. In some scenes Sonic feels like he was photoshopped in. It can just mean that budget is low OR that this trailer is almost entirely consists of fake/altered footage with "ugly" design.

    2) This movie obviously will also bring tons of merchandise. And if they will change design, not just some of the supporting cast, but the MAIN character, it would be kinda... not very wise, since merch is being made in advance. But. If my theory about "good design" is correct, merch is already made with "corrected" design in mind. Keep in mind that we still haven't saw any sort of merchandise related to the movie yet, which is kinda weird, considering that's not much of time left until it's release.

    3) Sonic's overall reputation. As much as I love this franchise and these characters, I have to admit that Sonic as franchise has laughably bad reputation nowadays. It's less of something genuinely respected and more of "ironic and memeable". So this marketing strategy actually worked in favor with this. Who cares if Sonic's movie looks at least decent? This doesn't sound interesting at all. Well if this movie sounds and looks AWFUL, that's different talk entirely. Now everyone talk about this movie, even people who don't care for the character or franchise.

Of course there's possibility that I am fucking crazy and this theory is bunch of barnacles, but it makes way too much sense to me. Let's hope that's true.

  4. Happy anniversary, SpongeBob SquarePants. This show was the first thing in my life that I was truly obsessed over, it was the show that impacted me the most, without any exaggeration. I still love it, and it's still bring me laughs and feeling of comfort. Thanks to SpongeBob I became interested in drawing, thanks to SpongeBob I met many wonderful people, this community included. I honestly can't imagine my life without it, in a good way. Thank you SpongeBob SquarePants and I wish you being just as fondly remembered and loved in next 20 years, as you are now.

it'd be way different than it was in 8-9a; the characters would have no personalitys; the show would be much slower and more boring, there'd be no good humor, and the animation would be as basic as possible

    i mean

i respect that you like s8-9a

but you described word for word how i personally see these seasons for myself

    it's slow

    it's boring

    it has no good humor

    animation is basic and stiff

characters are one-dimensional flandarized stereotypes of their former selfs

squidward is just grumpy guy that always gets bad luck, sandy is just scientist, spongebob is just happy guy, partick is just brainless one, krabs just loves money

there's literally no depth or any varition of their characterization, behavior

again, i have no problem with you liking these seasons, but that's unfortunately what i saw in them for myself.

Okay, unpopular opinion time, but let me just point something out. Classic cartoon shorts made by Disney, Warner Bros., MGM, Hanna-Barbera, EVEN "Ren & Stimpy", constantly BROKE their own normal rules of continuity all the time; Nobody bats an eye!  "Spongebob Squarepants" hasn't even been CONFIRMED to break his normal rules of his continuity in ONE movie, and EVERYONE loses their MIND!!!! o.o If you KNOW who I'm paraphrasing without having to research any Internet memes, YOU deserve some imaginary brownie points, as well as an imaginary COOKIE!!!! :D Enough said! ;)

Problem with this is that unlike Looney Tunes or Ren and Stimpy, SpongeBob has consistent world, characters and their backstories (mostly). Characters can't be suddenly in different roles or settings each episode, or having different personalities, show has some sort of rules that despite many episode, were never broken besides some exception which were universally hated by everyone (Larry not knowing SpongeBob in "Pet or Pests" or "Sandy Squirrel" in "SpongeBob's Last Stand".

It seems like this movie won't retcon anything basing on latest info, but if it will, this is just plain disrespectful to Stephen's original creation in more ways than one.

  8. ok i think no one really cares that much about this topic anymore but for the sake of completion i will complete it

    ahem

sorry for the wait any poor soul that liked to read my reviews

i got side-tracked with many things

from briefly not that much caring about spongebob because of certain other nicktoon

    to just being lazy

but this shit has to STOP

so finally we are going to beginning of end

    of this ranking, that is

    Let's get started!

You know what post-movie did absolutely horribly? Well, s6-9a, that is. Squidward and SpongeBob dynamic. It was one of the absolute best parts of the show's first seasons, but since season 6 it was damaged badly. SpongeBob was turned into creepy stalker and Squidward was turned into one-dimensional grumpy character with no charisma or any other characteristics.

But some of the finest season 11 episode revolve around this pair of characters in particular. Let's see why this episode works and why it in some ways doesn't.

Premise is simple, entire Krusty Krew is going through check-up, but Mr.Krabs is too afraid to take it and hides from the nurse. But if Mr.Krabs won't complete his check-up Krusty Krab will be closed forever! So it's up to Squidward and SpongeBob to take Mr.Krabs' check-up and make it secretly, for Krabs not to realize it.

This was one of the first episodes aired in season 11 and it honestly showed a big difference compared to then new season 10. Dialogue and visual humor was balanced, characters were written properly and plot has some clever twists and turns in it. While not entiety of season 11 will stay like that and it will occasionally slip back into wackier and visual-gag based formula of season 10, this episode convinced many that post-sequel crew indeed was improving their craft and perfecting new for this show style. Comedy is indeed quite good in this episode, it has many memorable lines and dialogue exchanges ("You seem fine. Physically, at least.")

But what makes this episode truly shine is Squidward and SpongeBob dynamic. They feel like true friends, or at least, good co-workers, which is much more in-line with their pre-movie portrayal, where they could occasionally team-up for a good cause. They bounce off each other perfectly and it's just so nice seeing Squidward that isn't scared of SpongeBob beyond any reason or SpongeBob behaving like a stalker. It's just delightful to see them both on-screen this episode, which is I can applaud for. This dynamic pretty much stays in most of season 11 and I really enjoy this approach to their interactions, since old shtick of "Squidward just plainly hating SpongeBob" was getting really old.

If I had to explain why this episode isn't higher, I can give you a few reasons. First of all, there's just more episodes in the season that better in every way imaginable. Not that this episode does anything wrong, but season 11 has higher highs than this. And if I had to nitpick, I'd called Mr.Krabs himself the biggest problem in this episode. It's never elaborated on why Mr.Krabs is afraid of check-ups and some of slapstick can be a bit too far (yes, I'm STILL NOT OVER THAT TEETH SCENE). But SpongeBob isn't plot-driven show, so I can forgive that writers make blatant "excuse plots" to justify the gags. Besides, I'm all for using Mr.Krabs in plot-lines that have nothing to do with money.

    Really solid and high 8/10.

"The Great Piggy Bank Robbery", considered by many animation buffs, to be one of Robert Clampett's best animated cartoons (along with "Book Revue"). Keep up the good work! :D Enough said! ;)

they aren't wrong, The Great Piggy Bank Robbery is amazing short and one of my most favorite cartoons ever.

    thank you!

  10. This sounds better than dumb retcons, but I am still skeptical about this.

the most hilarious thing that i was kind right about nick's awful marketing, instead of revealing, you know, the IMPORTANT part of the movie, they revealed details of opening scene.

nick, hire actual competent people that can promote shit.

or in that case, hire at least someone competent.
