Also, while I'm not completely accurate, this quote from the same article strongly implies that a S13 for the original series will happen:

i'm more than sure that it means s12.

us aired like 4 episodes at best at this point and this season will be longest in a while (54 segments), so i think nick is just stretching it out.

  2. I said all I wanted about this spin-off but since then I thought about whole situation again.

And I've came to conclusion, that the main show, SpongeBob Squarepants that was going since 1999, maybe is finished for good. It's just speculation on my part. I have my own reasons and evidence to think how I think but there are little chances that things I'm saying are true.

    1) Kamp Koral is spin-off "in-name" only. In reality this is poorly disguised reboot of SpongeBob. Fresh start for new viewers, so to speak. SpongeBob isn't really relevant with majority of Nick's main demographic - children. This show is too old and too long at this point. While this spin-off is prequel (so you basically don't have to know anything about SB to watch it) and in CGI, less costy and more "trendy" style of animation rather than traditional animation of the main show.

    2) There's no need to continue making old and tired show with big baggage of stuff and restrictions over the years while you can now make spin-off, brand new show, that can be whatever Nickelodeon and Viacom themselves want.

    3) This year is huge for SB, 20th anniversary after all. But so far there are no season 13 announcement. You'd think Nick announced it by now like they did with lots of other SB stuff. But instead we know that several post-sequel crew memebers left, Vincent Waller and Marc seem to be involved with Kamp Koral and the last thing we heard about s13 is that it's "in talks" way before announcement of spin-offs. Seems likely that Nick doesn't need s13 anymore.

If show really will end after s12 to make a way for brand new spin-offs I am not sure how to feel about it. On one hand, I will be happy that SpongeBob, as creator-driven show, will be able to end on somewhat high note. On other hand, brand itself seems to be getting just worse and worse and post-sequel crew seem to be forced to do stuff they don't really want to do.

    Bittersweet feelings all around.

I’m very excited this is happening and all, and I love that image JJS posted above, but am I the only one who thinks SpongeBob and Patrick look a bit creepy in those Steam screenshots? I hope they don’t look like that constantly in the game.

Nitpicks aside, I can’t wait to play a childhood classic again on a newer console.

i think it's just a weird angle, in og game models also looked awkward from certain angles.

  4. New season 12 rankings (will update when this Nicktoons UK premiere week will be finished)

Farmerbob - 9/10 (Despite having story to be just an excuse for the string of gags, this episode is genuinely hilarious for me. And since this show is primarily comedy I can let this slide, because bits like "barn-itzva" scene, aliens and "I HOPE THIS TRIP LASTS FOREVER" are really good pieces of comedy, imo. Of course I can see why some don't care for this episode that much, since it doesn't really offer that much in anything besides comedy and if you not a fan of it, there's not much to it otherwise.)

Gary and Spot - 9/10 (My favorite Spot and Gary episode. Huh. This episode is really unique and cute. It isn't very funny, but entertaining story and charming atmosphere kept me smiling thru out.)

The Nitwitting - 3/10 (This episode is more boring to me than anything else.)

The Ballad of Filthy Muck - 6/10 (This episode has few genuinely funny jokes, great ending and song, but otherwise is kind of... there.)

The Krusty Slammer - 8/10 (Fairly entertaining story with few laugh out loud moments make into fairly enjoyable episode. This episode also features probably one of the most natural incorporation of various references to previous episodes, which is also a big plus.)

Pineapple RV - 9/10 (Even without english dialogue this episode kept me entertained. Squidward's characterization is superb, plot feels classic but unique enough, ending was very sweet.)

King Plankton - 10/10 (Really creative and funny episode, not much to say besides that, almost everyone love it for a reason.)

Stormy Weather - 8/10 (Very cute if somewhat unfocused episode sprinkled with some genuinely funny moments through out. SpongeBob's characterization is strong in this one. Also, new character, Gale Doppler, is genuinely fun antagonist to SB, I hope he will return sometime like Rube did.)

The Krusty Bucket - 10/10 (One of my personal favorites from entire post-sequel. Lawrence turned cliched cartoons clone trope into something genuinely interesting and engaging. Krabs/Plankton team-up was unexpected and done really well, they have a great chemistry. New villain was also fairly interesting break from the norm in best way possible. Biggest surprise of the season so far, since I didn't expected much from it.)

Sandy's Nutty Nieces - 8/10 (I expected this ep to be okay at best, comedy was surprisingly solid, SpongeBob's characterization was on-point and Patrick was surprisingly funny here. Nieces themselves were.... fine, I haven't found them annoying, but I can see why some be annoyed by them.)

Insecurity Guards - 10/10 (This episode honestly feels like modern classic. Every joke hits, new location is superbly designed and feels unique, characterization is on-point, animation is gorgeous. This episode is probably one of my contenders of post-sequel favorites, it was THAT good.)

  5. I don't give a flying fuck about this spin-off.

Idea sounds awful and it being in CGI also sounds cursed.

But the best thing we can do, all people that hate the mere idea of such thing happening, it's just to ignore it.

    No rants, no attention.

This project deserves to die in infancy and obscurity.

From now on I will ignore every bit of news related to this "project".

  6. Slide Whistle Stooges is incredibly annoying, repetitive and boring episode. It took premise that could've worked only in 5 minutes runtime at best and made 11 minutes out of it, adding nothing to the actual substance.

One Coarse Meal isn't episode I get the hate on. It's bad, but like. It's bad to me in purely technical things? Like writing is really bad and confusing for instance. But not like "omg plankton is almost commited suicide". Besides, this episode at least had entertaining first few minutes with great action and some not bad jokes (wacky bucks). So yeah, I can get why this episode is on the list, but I heavily disagree.

  7. I don't hate either The Splinter. This episode just bores me. It isn't even the grossest episode of the show anymore. Only truly awful thing about this episode is Dr.Patrick scene, but that's about it. The rest is just mediocrity at it's finest.

Boating Buddies is oof. I kinda like some jokes from it, but it's so frustrating to watch. They botched perfectly good concept but never expanded on it. Mrs.Puff and Squidward barely have any interaction with each other, SpongeBob is turned into stalker creep and visuals are ugly thanks to Aaron Springer's storyboards. I don't hate it as much as I once did, but it more than deserves being on the list.

  8. While I don't think that Little Yellow Book is 25 bottom worthy at least because it has fair share of pretty good jokes, it's still terrible episode all in all. The most awful thing about it is that it didn't HAD to be bad. All elements of good episode were right here, but for some reason writers did EVERY CONCIOUS DESICION IMAGINABLE to make this episode hard to watch. They didn't had to make townspeople hypocrites, but they did, they didn't had to make Squidward an asshole, but they did, they didn't had to make this dumb comedic ending, but. they. did. It frustrates me more than the actual episode, tbh. It feels like watching some kind of let's play on youtube and screaming "WHY ARE YOU PLAYING SO BADLY, IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO BE BETTER THAN THIS."

Are You Happy Now is one of the few episodes in the series that I can genuinely call offensive. It's truly has distasteful jokes and jarring tonal shifts that are really uncomfortable to watch. While I agree with most that jjs said, I disagree with one little detail. SpongeBob wouldn't be able to touch such serious and nuanced subject matter period, precisely because pre-movie writers (or any competent writers on the show at any points at time) would've likely understood that it's just doesn't fit the show's tone. SpongeBob can be sometimes serious and emotional, but depression is above and beyond simple and understandable topics like losing a pet or having a beef with friend. This episode just doesn't feel like SpongeBob, it feels like some bad edgy fan-fiction at best, not something that was approved and written by professional writers and storyboarders.

  9. Fungus Among Us is.... episode i don't care much about. There are way worse gross-out episodes in the series in that and frankly, it don't disgust me that much. My main issue that it just doesn't even try to tell any jokes? It takes itself way too seriously for it's own good.

Rodeo Daze is garbage and rightfully made the list, Jjs's reivew was pretty self-absorbed, so I don't have to add anything else.

  10. Cent of Money is such crappy episode. If previous seasons made Mr.Krabs my least favorite in the main cast but still somewhat likable, this was the ep that cemented my strong hatred for him for years. This episode is just unfunny and really uncomfortable to watch and even ending doesn't save the day for me. It didn't quite made my list unfortunately, but I am glad that his ep appeared on this list.

you can kill me if you want, but i can't hate Squid's visit. out of all season 6 episodes, this is one of those that's just... fascinate me. It's bad, don't get me wrong, but somehow I am entertained by it. It's so bizarre and creepy that it's somehow works for me? Objectively it's garbage, no doubt, but I think it's the same case as Demolition Doofus for me. Ep objectively is terrible, but it's really... interesting.

  11. Sponge-cano is just as bad as the rest of "Legends" episodes, but I think this one doesn't deserve to be that low on the list, personally. Other "Legends" episodes are waaaaay worse. Nothing much to say, since I agree with commentaries.

Whatever happened to Spongebob is such big disappointment. Episode had potential with it's story, but it in result it became aimless and unfocused and also really mean-spirited.

and also can i say that i DESPISE squidward in this episode

Usually even when he behaves like an ass he has enough charisma to stay likeable, while here he is just so unlikable I legit wanted to hit him in the face. Other characters don't fare much better, but Squidward was the worst offender.

And yeah, fun-fact. This episode was actually based on tie-in book "For the Love of Bubbles", which, while wasn't outstanding, lacked many elements that made this special so terrible in the first place, lacking mean-spirited tone, terrible characterization and lack of focus. Book and episode have the same writer (Steven Banks), so it begs the question.

How they made said adaptation so much worse compared to source material, even with original writer? This is just mind-boggling to me.

  12. I have no hard feelings towards The Nitwtting. This episode is bad, but for me personally it does absolutely nothing outstandingly bad to stand out in any way. It's almost seems like Kaz intentionally wanted to make "so bad, it's good" episode, but kinda failed, because it's just "so bad, it's bad". I know what to expect from majority of Patrick's episodes by this point and this one doesn't make anything to surprise me. It met my perfectly low expectations. I probably can get why some people hate this episode with passion, but I myself personally was just bored by it and if it wasn't for others, I'd forgot about this ep rather fast.

The Summer Job is truly garbage episode. Like my god. Boating School episodes in that period sucked in general, but this one stands out as something truly frustrating on entirely new level. Potentially interesting concept with swapping the roles between SpongeBob and Mrs.Puff gets ruined by unfunny and obnoxious execution that only becomes more and more annoying to watch as episode goes along. SpongeBob himself is extremely unlikable character here, almost "Choir Boys" tier of terrible characterization. Only sympathetic or somewhat competently written character is Mrs.Puff and this is really sad. And of course there's also dear air atmosphere and lackluster animation which only makes things worse. Oh and yeah, forgot to mention, since it's kind of nitpick, but

i can't stand music in this episode

with slow pacing and grating gags it's somehow only adds to overall annoyance

    this track in particular

it doesn't sound too bad with new fast-paced episode, but good lord, it sounded terrible in post-movie

  13. Number 16.

    1000?cb=20180215141957

    Guest(s):
    Laraine Newman as Grandma Plankton
    Writer(s):
    Mr. Lawrence
    Storyboard Artist(s):
    John Trabbic

Post-sequel is known for much tighter continuty than any other era of this show to date. Making reference to past episodes and bringing back old characters. Usually those characters are from pre-movie era, which is more or less seems normal. Pre-movie is the most beloved and known era of SpongeBob, so bringing back characters from it will be wise decision of getting some attention from more casual audience, so this episode stick out in particular. It revolves around Plankton's Grandma - Lily. Character that was introduced in not particularly liked or remembered season 7 episode - Grandma's Secret Recipe, mediocre rip-off of Imitation Krabs, one of many that were created during season 7. So decision of bringing such unknown character from relatively hated episode boggled everyone's mind... and kinda intrigued too.

This episode's plot is simple and really similar to Squilliam Returns. Plankton promised his grandma to own Krusty Krab by her 90th birthday and teams-up with Krusty Krew to not disappoint her, without any tricks or evil schemes.

This plot is cliched and was already done, not just in "SpongeBob", but in general, so why is this episode is so high on the list? Because of great writing. As much as I adore new show's direction with trippy plots and visual gags, I miss more character-driven stories of the past, and this is easily one of the most character-focused episodes of the season. Most of the comedy comes from character interactions between SpongeBob, Squidward, Krabs, Plankton and his Grandma, which are mostly hilarious. The best character, strangely enough, is Lily herself. She is really memorable and her voice actress (i don't remember if she was in character's debut episode or not) brought whole new level of charisma to her. Sub-plot of Lily loving Squidward is pretty hilarious and I honestly wish Lily to return in future post-sequel episodes, since there is potential for more stories to tell with her. But easily the best part about whole thing is plot-twist. This episode legit subverted my expectations, making not Plankton the main antagonist but his grandma, which while was a bit sarcastic, seemed like a harmless person. Instead of "liar revealed" ending or "something goes wrong for Plankton and he is exposed" ending, we get neither and Plankton somewhat won in the end, making his grandma's birthday truly special.
Episodes shines not just in terms of writing and characterization, but also in terms of visuals. Usually I don't really bring this up, since visuals in s11 are godly by default, but I really enjoyed Krusty Krab's transformation into Plankton's restaurant.

Episode does have flaws, like a said, initial premise is pretty dang cliched and scene where SpongeBob playing with the sign is pretty annoying and drawn-out, but in general, it's really well-done episode, which accomplished almost impossible feat - it made mediocre character from mediocre episode into something great.

    First 9/10 of the list.

  14. To Love a Patty is episode I loathe. I can understand if someone was entertained by it's "so bad it's good" nature, but this episode was just bad to me in general. Terrible gross-out, terrible storyline and terrible characterization. You can say that SpongeBob is going downhill if they had to bend character's personality to make one-note gag plot work.

Demolition Doofus is episode I have no hard feelings for. It's somewhat fascinating, like Whobob said, but also kinda uncomfortable to watch. At the very least this episode is memorable, quality that not many season 8 episodes have. But terrible characterization and contrived plot-resolution make this episode more than worthy being on the list, even if I'd had it a bit lower.

  15. atlantis is just mediocre for me. not really deserves being here, in my opinion, there's bigger fish to fry.

sportz i can understand the hate, but i can't share it. it's bad, but does nothing outstandingly awful for me to be one of the worst in the series. at least it has quality animation and one decent joke, while some other episodes in this series can't offer even than.

  16. Face Freeze. This episode is pure garbage without any substance besides grotesque looking faces, which aren't funny at all. Some people are saying that Face Freeze is similar to current direction of the show, but lemme tell you... You are wrong then. Because in wackiest of episodes, post-sequel still had much more substance than this episode. What aren't faces is boring and uninspired rip-off of Hooky. Not much to say about it.

Cephalapod Lodge.  This episode is really frustrating, it contains both one of the worst and unnecessary endings in the entire show and one of the biggest wasted potentials. Secret cult of cephalapods sounds like awesome idea, but it's executed really poorly in more ways than one. The saddest thing is, that IF episode didn't had this garbage ending, it would've been at least just mediocre. But as it is, it's just not good at all.

All that glitters. This episode is easily the worst of s4, but overall, it doesn't deserve being on the list. It's not good, but at least it has great animation and that SpongeBob feel.

Shuffleboarding. Dumb and frustrating episode to watch. It has few amusing scenes, i will give it that, but it's still not good at all. It's just poor men's version of Hall Monitor, but at least Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy got few funny lines.

Waiting. It's boring and lame. It doesn't offend me too much, but I have no problem with it being on the list.

House Sitting is such bland, empty and uninspired episode. It honestly works like metaphor on season 8 as whole. It's bland, empty and uninspired. Pure waste of 11 minutes. I'd be glad if this ep was higher on the list, but oh well.

  17. The Day Without Tears butchered the idea I wanted to returb to the show since season 1, no less. Rivalry between Spongebob and Squidward. Idea of this episode doesn't sound too bad, but execution just falls flat. Jokes are either boring with no energy or creativy or they are annyoing. I don't like characterization of main leads either, Squidward seems overly malicious for no reason, going beyond being just competetive and SpongeBob himself was flandarized beyond belief in this particular ep. So yeah, not a fan.

The Card is just super awful. This episode is just pure frustration frim start to finish with terrible Patrick to boot. One of those "infamous" episodes that I am glad are still getting really negative reputation. It's not like this episode didn' had any potential either, on contrary, SpongeBob and Patrick are Mermaid Man nerds, so episode like that would've appeared sooner or later. But, again, execution... not much else to say since Slug's commentary is pretty self-explanatory on why this episode is dumpster fire.

  18. I barely remember Play's a Thing. Like literally, barely. I was surprised that this episode even existed, but I remembered it a bit by screencaps. So I don't have to say about it much, but welp, if I barely remember it, I doubt that it's any good. Forgettable episodes are garbage, so I think it deserves being on the list.

Pet Sitter Pat is garbage episode that continues bad trends from s6-7. Bad Patrick characterization, Gary suffering, gross-out... But I don't have much to say about it, because:

    1) While this episode is horrible, It didn't provoked any emotional response from me, besides annoyance a bit.

    2) This episode is one of infamous ones, so many people said why it's so horrible in much better manner than I ever will be able to.

Both episodes aren't in my list, but these are worthy additions overall.

  19. I don't like Googly Artist, but I don't hate it either. Some jokes genuinely worked and I think that satire on critics and perception on what is "art" and what isn't is... Well, not the worst attempt at social commentary SpongeBob has ever done, but my problem with this episode is that I dislike everyone in it, probably besides SpongeBob. Squidward got what he deserved for his narcissism, but treatment towards him still got a bit unfair. Patrick wasn't that malicious, but hardly entertaining and annoyingly oblivious. Art Critic is lol. And while I can understand this episode being here, personally it just kinda bored me and not much else, if not some people having strong feelings about it, I'd didn't even remembered it's existence, to be honest.

You Don't Know the Sponge is awful-awful episode. I'm shocked to hear that it's apparently the first time this episode got into worst list. Why??? This episode deserves being here. It's just total waste. Conflict with Patrick not knowing anything about SpongeBob is forced and annoying, pacing is abysmal and how this episode was resolved is freaking laughable. This episode just makes me want to rewatch "The Secret Box", "Driven to Tears" and "The Pink Purloiner" again, episodes that test SpongeBob and Patrick's friendship in well-written and believable manner.
