  1. Maybe if Nick had waited a few years before going ahead with this, I'd be a little more on board. As it is right now though, it just feels incredibly disrespectful that they're going against Stephen's wishes so soon after his death (It's barely been half a year, Nick, c'mon).

Not to mention I really don't see why this needed to be a spin-off (Other than for money). This premise could've easily worked with the main show via something along the lines of Legends of Bikini Bottom or whatever. I'm also not too hyped about being CG, but if it ends up looking good I can get used to it.

I'll probably watch it when it premieres out of curiosity, but I'm not sure if I'll keep up with it afterward

  2. Something I've found through all my years going from fandom to fandom, and interest to interest, there's always one show I find myself repeatedly coming back to no matter what, and it's SpongeBob. I've been watching this show for as long as I can remember, in fact it was one of my earliest memories! I'm not sure what it is that keeps me interested, but I was very much a Nickelodeon kid growing up, so SpongeBob became a part of everyday life for me as a child. I watched the show, saw the movies, played the video games, etc. The world of Bikini Bottom always looked so bright and inviting, with a new zany adventure around every corner, and its population of colorful characters of all shapes and sizes. I remember as a kid I saw SpongeBob as a bit of a role model, and I wanted to be as friendly and happy as him when I grew up. I like to think that stuck with me somewhat all the way to adulthood, as even now I try to think positively, be kind to everyone, and I want to follow my passions and pursue a career in animation. I'm not sure where I'd be without the show, but I'm certain I wouldn't be the same person I am now.

The show was and is still a big part of my life (Even if I don't keep up with it as much as I used to). The crew is honestly full of such amazing and kind people, and I'm so glad that they still have fun with what they do. Regardless of what you may think of how well the show has aged, it's pretty incredible to think that a cartoon about a talking sponge has had such a huge impact on popular culture, as well as bring people from all over together, and is still continuing to do so after two whole decades!

So happy birthday, you funky little goofy goober! Thank you giving me and everyone around the world the best day ever for 20 years and counting! I'm sure Stephen is looking on proudly from the great beyond

  3. WhoBob definitely knocked it out of the park for me, but I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately, so here goes my own version.

SpongeBob: Admittedly I don't think I'd change too much. He's as much of an optimistic goofball as ever, but he's a bit more down to earth like in the earlier seasons. Like WhoBob said he's a bit of a perfectionist that wants to help everyone, even if it's just in a little way. Sometimes he can get carried away with it, but ultimately he means well, and if you really want to be left alone, he'll eventually take a hint and leave you be. He isn't ashamed to be himself or like what he likes, regardless of how childish they appear. Although this (Combined with his naivety and obliviousness) does lead to people (occasionally even his own friends) oftentimes not taking him seriously or underestimating him. SpongeBob tries his best not to let it get to him, but he does wish to be taken seriously, or at least be listened to more often. Despite his happy-go-lucky, childish spirit, he can go into Serious Mode when the situation calls for it, and can even get angry at someone if pushed enough. He doesn't like worrying his friends, so sometimes if something's bothering him or if he's upset about something he'll keep it to himself. This doesn't always work though, especially around Patrick. Speaking of...

Patrick: He was a tough one, but I think I'd have him retain some of his stupidity (Of course, no where as exaggerated). Unlike SpongeBob, who tries to consider everyone's feelings, Patrick logic is very much "act first, think later," and applies to both his actions and his words. He'll often say the first thing that comes to mind, and as a result will sometimes accidentally makes comments that can come off as mean and hurtful. So, people tend to think he's an immature, jerk-ish moron. Like SpongeBob, he too wants people to listen to him and to be taken seriously. The main difference with Pat is that his insecurities and frustrations can sometimes get to him more easily. Still, at the end of the day Patrick is someone who ultimately has his friends' backs. Pick on him all you want, but mess with his friends and you're gonna be in trouble.

Squidward: I wouldn't change too much, just cut down the zaniness of the recent seasons, and bring out more of his snark and softer side. He can still have his bad luck, but I'd make it a bit more justified or have him bring it on himself, rather than just having bad stuff happen to him for the sake of it. I'd also go a little bit more into why he's so grumpy and depressed all the time (Heck, maybe even add a bit more to why he dislikes SpongeBob outside of "He's annoying"), and maybe even have him start to slowly loosen up and become a little more open over time. Yes, he's pretty annoyed with the antics that go on all the time, but he still does care for his friends, even if he doesn't show it. Someone I know in a SB discord server I'm in mentioned the idea of him and Sandy hanging out sometimes and tbh I kinda like it. So yeah, he sometimes hangs out with Sandy (It certainly gives him a break from his neighbors lol)

Sandy: I don't mind her being a scientist, but I wouldn't completely forget about her southern, karate side either. I'd expand a bit more on what her life back in Texas was like (I really love the musical's idea that even back home she was considered an outcast because of her interests, and the implication that that's part of the reason why she left). I'd show more of her struggles to fit in and adjust to life in Bikini Bottom, despite a lot of the residents initially being wary of her (As a side note, I'd also probably write the surface world in general as being way more mysterious and scary for underwater folk, seeing how Bikini Bottom is *pretty* isolated from humans, for the most part, and whatnot). I see her as someone who'll throw herself into her work if she's stressed (Or maybe doing some karate on the nearby scenery as a way to vent), and while she's overall pretty nice and friendly to everyone, she's also still pretty hotheaded and prideful, which can make her seem pretty intimidating to some fishfolk.

Mr Krabs: He's still pretty cheap and loves money, but I'd go more into why. He had a very poor childhood, so now he wants to make absolutely sure that doesn't happen again (He especially doesn't want Pearl to go through that). Despite this, he still gets a bit too caught up in his love of money sometimes, but this time he doesn't get too extreme about it. I'd also go a bit into his Navy days too occasionally, not passing up a chance to tell stories to anyone who asks. I'd also bring out his fatherly side out a more with SpongeBob, and have him be looking out for Squidward too.

Plankton: Ngl I wouldn't really change anything. I'd just have him be nicer to Karen

Karen: Again I wouldn't change much. I just wanna see more of what she's like when Plankton isn't around. I like the idea of her and Sandy hanging out (Maybe sometimes they even get Squidward to join in lol).

Pearl: I'm taking big inspiration from the musical with her. She still acts like your stereotypical teen for the most part, who's also super into music and singing. While Krabs is so busy trying to get money to give her a good life, she doesn't really care about money that much. She just wants her dad to stop being so obsessed over it and to spend some time with her. However, sometimes she'll go to Squidward (Who she sees as an uncle figure) if she needs advice and wants to talk about something because unlike Krabs, he won't sugarcoat stuff and will give it to her straight.

Gary: Perfect, wonderful, absolutely stupendous. 11/10 wouldn't change a thing

how long have u been drawing for?

For as long as I can remember. Although I didn't start drawing regularly until high school and even then it was on and off. It's only been this past year that I've been trying to draw on a more regular basis.

    do you watch any anime?

A little. I mainly watch Dragon Ball Super, but I'm also into Attack on Titan, One Punch Man, Assassination Classroom (I've watched the first two episodes so far and I've been meaning to watch more) and a couple others, but I don't remember them right now lol

Unfortunately, because of school I don't have time to watch any of them, so I've been REALLY behind on everything.

  6. I feel like I'm the only one here who DOESN'T want the formula to be revealed lol

All I really want is for the final episode to give both the show and the characters the proper send-off they deserve. But, if I had a choice on what to do:

    - Mr. Krabs and Plankton reconciling

    - Mr. Krabs deciding to retire (Idk maybe there's a subplot where he learns to not be so greedy) and giving the Krusty Krab to SpongeBob

    - Squidward learning to loosen up a bit and actually becoming friends with SpongeBob (Or at least more accepting of him)

    - Something with Sandy idk because the first movie (the actual finale) didn't really do anything with her

This is assuming that the final episode takes place after the first movie, of course. If not, then it'd be cool if the final episode winds up leading into the first movie (Like, the episode ends the day before the grand opening of the Krusty Krab 2) Also, like someone else said, it'd be pretty cool if the final episode included a special note from Stephan Hillenburg addressed to the fans at the very end.

  7. It certainly wouldn't be as big as it is now, in fact as others have mentioned kids today wouldn't even know about it. Honestly though... I'm glad it didn't end. Yeah, we got the "dark ages" with seasons 6-8 (Although even those seasons had some decent episodes sprinkled in there), but then we also wouldn't have seasons 4-5 or 9-11, SOOW, and now the Broadway musical and the third movie in 2020. Not to mention it's now reaching new generations of kids all over the world who will grow up with both new AND old SpongeBob. I dunno, I just feel like ultimately this show has done more good than bad overall.

  8. I'll actually be pretty sad about it as the show has been around for nearly my entire life and I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. Isn't everyday a cartoon gets to stick around for nearly 20 years and its brought so much joy to people around the world, so it'll be a sad day when it all comes to an end. At the same time though, just because the show ends doesn't mean Nick is automatically going to stop the merchandise train or stop airing re-runs. Nor will it the mean that the fans are just going to suddenly stop making fanart, fanfiction, etc.

  9. Since one-off characters like Spot have been making a comeback, and we know DoodleBob will be coming back in an episode later on this season, are there any other one-off characters you want to see return?

Personally, I wanna see more of Squilvia because I think her and Squidward were kinda cute together (Even though they only exchanged about three sentences with each other XD).

  10. I've always lowkey really liked Squandy, if anything as a crack ship/guilty pleasure. I really love the idea of them somehow becoming really good friends in an "opposites attract" kinda way. I just really wanna see them interact with each other more in the show (Which I've noticed we've been getting a bit more of in some of the recent episodes) because I feel their relationship/dynamic could be an interesting one to explore.

  11. I've always been really into SpongeBob. There would be periods where my interest in it would die down (Although I would still watch the show of course) but it would always find a way to come back in one way or another. For example, thanks to the musical, I've been super into SpongeBob lately and it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. ?

Bubble Bass, the obnoxious fish who seems to crush Plankton. I think Bhe is the only character SpongeBob truly doesn't like. I mean, SpongeBob can like Plankton as a friend, but there is something about Bubble Bass that just makes SpongeBob annoyed. He is also a prime example of a background character who stands out.

Honestly that's what always interested me about Bubble Bass the most. "Pickles" heavily implies that he and SpongeBob have a history (They kinda seem like rivals??? Idk)

I haven't seen that much of the seasons 10 and 11, but I'm hoping since Bubble Bass is making a comeback with all his recent cameos that someday the show address this again and maybe delve deeper into it.

  13. Ehhh, I've never really seen the potential in this one. You got episodes like Bossy Boots are The Chaperone where they get along relatively well, but then you get episodes Tunnel of Glove where Pearl where was really annoyed by him the whole time (Not to mention, in that same episode Pearl's friends joked that SpongeBob was her boyfriend and she was all "Ew, gross!")

On top of that, they don't really have anything in common or ever hang out. Besides, Pearl's in high school, and while we don't know SpongeBob's exact age (Unless you wanna take the date on his license into account) it's pretty safe to assume he's an adult, so the thought of him dating a teenager is very yikes

Plus, he'd be dating his boss' daughter which I imagine would be kinda awkward for all of them. I dunno I just felt the need to add in my two cents to all of this. I see them as friends, but that's it.
