  1. Article on Cartoon Brew: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/tv/c-h-greenblatt-not-thrilled-with-nicks-treatment-of-harvey-beaks-116928.html

Apparently, they've canceled new episodes of Harvey Beaks that were supposed to air in the summer and moved them to September.

    Found this interesting:

"Everyone remain calm. We’re not off the air. And it’s not just us getting this treatment. They stopped all premieres (animation and live action) except Pig, Goat, Banana, Cricket for the summer. Hopefully they’ll re-run the show so folks can become more aware of it in the meantime. We should be back with a big push come late summer/early fall."

Does this mean those 20 new SpongeBob episodes we were apparently supposed to get this summer aren't coming till later in the year?

  2. I try to run around 3-4 miles everyday, though sometimes I'm lazy and skip a day or two. Recently been getting into lifting weights and doing a little bodybuilding down in my basement when I got nothing else to do. I'd say about 5 times a week is accurate.

  3. Season 8 was a really interesting season in that there were some really original episode ideas like The Hot Shot, Frozen Face-Off, Sweet and Sour Squid, Ghoul Fools, Mermaid Man Begins, Hello Bikini Bottom, Planet of the Jellyfish, Super Evil Aquatic Villain Team Up is Go! and even more that I can't remember off-hand. There was also the whole vacation arc which actually had some decent episodes come out of it. However, I do think people give a bit too much credit to Season 8 since it came after 6 and 7, setting the bar pretty low which made the episodes seem better than they actually were.

The biggest problem I find is that when Season 8 is bad, it's really bad. Like, Demolition Doofus, Glove World RIP, Face Freeze (loved the face drawings but that's about it), Smooth Jazz at Bikini Bottom, Pet Sitter Pat, and Oral Report are all either extremely bland and humorless or downright ruin established characters. I think Patrick is probably at his worst during this season as he comes off as more annoyingly dumb than a lovable idiot.

With Season 5 though, I find the bad episodes tend to be just boring but rarely outright horrible, and the really good episodes are easily Pre-Movie quality. I think Season 5 also ends up being my preferred season because it was the last remnants of classic SpongeBob, since in Season 6 we got a lot of new writers which changed the show's tone a lot. Plus, there was a lot of gold especially with stuff like Friend or Foe which is my favorite special, and while it overall lacked the variety of Season 8, the writing and jokes worked far better.

  4. Watched the pilot, thought it was alright. Liked the animation, the whole bear totem pole thing, and the characters had pretty fun personalities that worked well off each other. I didn't find it all that laugh-out-loud funny though, which is really the biggest issue with the episode. I only really had a few small chuckles at the basketball game and the scene in the diner, but not much else. For a show that's obviously more gag-driven than it is story-driven, that's not exactly the best sign.

It kinda reminds of me of that old Oh Yeah! Cartoons show that had all those quirky shorts which worked as pilots for potential series, only this one actually got picked up. It's only one episode though, so it's definitely got time to improve. Either way, it's still better than anything Nick is making nowadays (outside of Harvey Beaks, I think that one still has a leg-up on this show).

  5. I always had a soft-spot for SuperSponge on the PS1. Not that it's a great game or anything, as it's actually kind of hilariously bad. There's virtually no attempts at humor and the plot is just about getting ingredients for Mermaid Man's sandwich. It's got this weird Sonic-style ring health system, where you collect spatulas and when you get hit they fly everywhere, and if you get hit without one you'll die. It's pretty poorly designed overall with a lot of cheap deaths, but there's sort of a 'so bad it's good' factor to it that makes me come back to the game every once in a while. I mean, just look at the design of the final boss:

That's true art right there, I tell ya.

Oh yeah, and of course Battle for Bikini Bottom. That game is still awesome.

  6. My hobbies like animation and writing stories are not necessarily reliant on there being an internet, but I'm sure had it not existed I wouldn't have gotten into them as much as I did. When I started making animations years back, I would post them on the Youtube and wound up finding a community of other animators. Being able to actually talk with people that shared my interest made me want to make more animations which led to it being a huge passion of mine.

Without that, who knows if I'd still want to pursue it as a career now. Kinda scary/weird to think about.

  7. Greetings. I'm Patrick NotStar, here to grace you with my presence. Or something like that.

I originally joined SpongeBuddy Mania in 2012, though my activity there has been dwindling quite a bit. In hopes that a change of scenery might get me to post more, I decided to join this place. Gotta admit it's kind of surreal to see this place be simultaneously so similar to SBM yet fairly different at the same time. At least that's what I got from the few topics I was reading before joining.

So yeah, looking forward to it! See you around (you in particular).
