  1. I only realized this after my riffs but I didnt get to mention the style of this that much. The fascinating thing about this is that even though he tries to be needlessly edgy and give details of sex and violence, it's all short and boring despite the subject matter being extremely horrific. I dont know how but there wasnt much to go over as he made this such a short slog to get through and more dull than anything else.

If I were to describe this it feels like a 12 year olds first fanfiction after learning what sex was from seeing their first M-rated movie with tons of sex and violence, and then they wanted to be edgy so they write this based off of a kids show. Not a 17 year old "future english teacher's" best attempt at making fanfiction in their spare time to flex out their creative writing, which is what I assume he was trying to do.

  2. CWN was never a personal favorite, but I'll admit that the conman and the ending with Squidward were highlights of the entire show so I'd probably rank this anywhere from 40th to 50th.

My opinion is honestly really volatile so any certain rankings besides my top 2 can change at any time, so alongside my submitted list I'd have potential changes in parentheses :

    Spoiler
    1. Welcome to the Chum Bucket

    2. Imitation Krabs

    3. Fear of a Krabby Patty

    4. Walking Small (would place lower)

    5. Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost (in hindsight this was an overranking due to sentimentalism as I loved this at a young age and this was one of the first episodes that made me love Squidward, my favorite character, so much. I dont love this to the same top 5 extent anymore and would put it lower or leave off as an honorable mention, as even though my love has faded a bit this is still extremely special to me and I'd still like to give it some credit. I'd at least put it below Nasty Patty as that handled a death plot in a funnier manner)

    6. The Algae’s Always Greener

    7. Nasty Patty (would place top 5)

    8. The Fry Cook Games (would place lower outside the top 10)

    9. Big Pink Loser

    10. The Pink Purloiner

    11. Shanghaied

    12. Plankton’s Army

    13. Graveyard Shift

    14. Can You Spare a Dime

    15. Clams

    16. Mid-Life Crustacean

    17. The Lost Mattress

    18. Krab Borg (would place in the 20's or leave off)

    19. Squid on Strike (higher)

    20. Rock-a-bye Bivalve

    21. Doing Time

    22. Born Again Krabs (would place higher

    23. One Krabs Trash (would place top 5)

    24. Snowball Effect

    25. Opposite Day (would leave off)

  3. Help Wanted: I'd never put it on but it has a good spot as the pilot so I think that honorable mentions is fair no matter where I'd rank it due to what it did and how well executed it was as a pilot.

Ripped Pants: I prefer other season 1 episodes, Ripped was just an ok episode with an admittedly nice second half.

Artist: A really good Squidward episode with him bending over backwards for the sake of SB creating art, only for that ironic ending to wrap up a great episode even though it missed my cut.

No Free Rides: I've admittedly not seen this in years but I do remember it being the second best Mrs Puff episode, only second to Doing Time. I'll need to rewatch this before making my next list.

Planet suffers from s8 atmosphere where no matter what happens, there's still some slightly dull feeling in the episode's DNA. I have no idea why but this can be found in at least 95% of season 8 episodes.

I keep forgetting that The Secret Box isnt considered one of the classics, but I do agree that it's not top 50. Patrick getting ready for a pillow fight and the best friends rings were hilarious though so I'm fine with it being an HM

Feral is the first Sandy episode I've enjoyed in a while and it was nice to see an experimental episode with The Narrator and Patchy included, but it does have some weird pacing and there's sone funnier episodes in post sequel so it missed mine.

I've never cared for Hooky and never will. There's better episodes from that season which are missing.

WYW is nice but thank Neptune it's not in the top 25 this year. That one time was just ridiculous

Foe is great but I'm not the biggest fan of the ending and unfortunately, those Patchy scenes exist and are undoubtedly the worst of the entire show. What a real shame we couldnt get an extended ep like Shanghaied or Back to the Past with no Patchy, it'd fit too given that s5 had those three ep production pairs with shorter episodes so what gives!?

Mode is a nice winter episode with a few good jokes, but those jokes arent the best of the show and from season 5 I prefer To Sing a Song, The Krusty Plate, Bucket Sweet Bucket, The Holy Rise and Shine Itself and 20,000 Patties, none of which made my list so Mode was never a consideration for me at all.

  4. The last few minutes are insulting. Patrick has a chance to at least recognize his flaw, but blames it all on science itself. Not Sandy who manipulated him, or him for being manipulated, but science. And then he's fine with luring an out of character zany Squidward into a cage for a scientific experiment. The ending is so horrendous that this is in my bottom 10.

Band Geeks never stood out as anything special to me. There are good jokes like the flag twirlers and Squidward saying they should play so quietly nobody hears them, but my apathy towards this episode can mostly stem from one thing. For a climactic song, Sweet Victory evokes nothing from me. It's just a decent rock ballad that is nothing special whatsoever, and for that to be the big ending that finally has Squidward win left me underwhelmed given that it's just an inserted track when the show is fully capable of making great original songs. Yes, Squidward finally gets his moment, but the execution was just not as thrilling for me as I wanted it to be.

I feel like there should be a new rule, like on "Real Time With Bill Maher." From now on, all SBC users MUST submit only 30 pre-movie episodes, and combine them with 30 post-movie episodes, so we don't get this one-sided pre-movie fest that EVERY single user only wants to see the exact SAME episodes we've ALL seen on this list a MILLION times!

      Hide contents

Well, here's hoping we have one more good episode, and what will INEVITABLY be "Band Geeks" at #1, like it ALWAYS is!

    Enough said!

Should I let this speak for itself?

If you want a 50/50 split and a lack of repeats, then don't put Band Geeks number one because that is literally the most counterproductive thing to that cause. ENOUGH SAID! :swag:

  7. Dying was an unfortunate victim of me loving a ton of eps and was two spots away from making my list. It's easily one of the best SpongeBob/Squidward interactions with Squidward genuinely caring, only for him to explode in the end about SpongeBob not exploding. Their day trip doing all sorts of wacky hijinks on Sponge's bucket list is great, and the sunset scene is one of the show's best. This could very well make my list next time, and I'll really consider adding it if I can find a good spot.

  8. Talking about KKTV itself it's a fun ep but that 30 second "da da da da da" gag was painful and that 30 seconds was honestly enough to keep it out of my top 25 with ease, a ton of episodes are flawless so that scene really sticks out. It felt like padding the runtime and it really bugged me while there's at least 25 episodes that I enjoyed start to finish. Sucks since the rest is genuinely hilarious such as Squidward's entire appearance, but there's too much competition for me to rank KKTV after that.

If you really think CAREFULLY about both of those episodes, they're BOTH just "Shaggy Dog Stories." And I mean that, in the sense that in the vast scheme of things, they don't REALLY contribute anything significant to the "Spongebob Squarepants" canon

If you really think about it the ending to Band Geeks and Pranks a Lot were both never mentioned again as Squidward went back to sucking as a musician post Band Geeks and Invisible Spray is never brought up again, so it's safe to say those would be shaggy dog stories, but I could've sworn those were both in your top 5 for differing reasons! Seems really odd to me.

  10. Christmas Who is a nice episode l for sure, but the beginning keeps it out of my top 25. The beginning has momsnts like the song for sure, but given that the first half was mainly buildup some of it isn't in the show's absolute best, and given how great the show's best episodes are from stsrt to finish I excluded Christmas Who from mine for not having the same effect, especially as for winter episodes I prefer Snowball Effect.

However, this was one of Squidward's best appearances. From having reasonable doubt and being right (and a....big jerk!) to selling his entire house due to being inspired from his gift was a nice gesture, and by the end you can tell every character simply just didn't wamt to be let down by the holiday so when everyone wins, including Squidward given he has his wooden clarinet, it does create a nice feeling.

Real talk though Sandy's a bitch for not saying you need to sleep when Santa comes, c'mon girl how you forget to tell them that!?

  11. When I first joined Shanghaied was my favorite. I saw the extended You Wish scenes and loved them, especially with Potty leaving like a business worker quitting. Aside from those Patchy scenes, gags like the telescope and the perfume department were great and even the weaker ones like "leedle leedle lee" going on a bit too long were brilliantly incorporated by having the Dutchman's energy drain. The 4 way dynamic is great and all characters bounce splendidly off of each other here, and I'm glad to see this in the top 10 after barely making the top 20 last time.

  12. Walking Small, Naught Nautical Neighbors and Opposite Day are three top 25 contenders from season one that I feel are overlooked due to season one's more lax nature which is honestly a shame.

I'll throw One Krabs Trash and Born Again Krabs for underappreciated Krabs episodes that are top 25 worthy as well as everything in OKT is extremely quotable and Squidward chewing Krabs out over 62 cents plus his change makes this possibly the best usage of Krabs' greed in a single episode.

Hey buddy.  I should have clarified.  It’s not just you because I’m going all the way back to before you too.  I know of plenty people from my tv.com time too that was passionately against this episode and since we still have some stragglers from back during those days, I was speaking from under that impression too.  If you want a specific example, RaeAndAnasRock  passionately hated any episode with the slightest bit of Squidward sabotage (ask Jjs since I guarantee maybe one or two people will remember that name haha).  Sorry for any trouble this might have caused.

It's not any trouble, I just specifically remembered giving what I thought was the first criticism against it and as far as I know, in here and that one time in the episode topic in 2015 (the year you mentioned) was the only one on SBC itself, so it looked like a reach especially since it actually rose up to top 3 after 2015 for the 2016 list so that claim just doesn't look right at all.

Plus my criticism isn't the fact that it's Squid sabotage, it's that I felt the excessiveness of thr joke was completely unwarranted given his reasons for testing the myth not being anywhere near enough to justify it, which is also the issue with so many "Squid abuse" episodes like Smoothe Jazz.

Back to the list, Graveyard Shift is one of those classics where I fully agree with all the praise and while no longer in my top 5 is still in my top 15. The antics and slowly building paranoia hidden under all the jokes such as the walls oozing slime pay off with a hilarious ending that only a show like SpongeBob could execute flawlessly.

I mean, I certainly THINK it's a very good episode; even if the debate on whether or not Squidward deserved the pain he got inflicted upon him, is highly over-rated and, in my personal opinion, HIGHLY unnecessary!

I had no idea that all it took was only two people finding something in a scene to be unfunny and needlessly excessive to make an entire "debate" overrated. TIL!

  15. I disagree with some of the top choices but in the end I let them slide due to it mainly being a difference in the humor of other episodes being more appealing to me. However this episode's ending is still a dumpster fire.

The beginning is great, not my favorite but it showed Squid letting himself get roped into their antics a la Idiot Box. However, the sea bear bit was unnecessarily cruel and overdone. Given that SB & Pat's evidence was tabloids and "Fake Science Monthly", his lack of belief was justified. Were his methods a bit extreme? Yes, but in the end all he was doing was trying to prove a myth that he had reasonable doubt in to be false in the most effective way possible. That does not justify him getting mauled multiple times and it was so excessive that I couldn't focus on the dialogue jokes. Him getting mauled and screaming and limping because of this was far more effective than just shouting things, and I'm gonna be blunt: the oval line was the only one to stick out and was absolutely atrocious given that nobody would be able to draw when they're that hurt, so it only felt like a piss-poor excuse to have him get mauled and scream again!

The ending was unfunny, and even though I wanted to let it pass as Squid being hurt not being the only joke due to the attempts at dialogue humor, the sea rhino ending comes in and adds an insulting nail to the coffin in this unfunny ending that turned this from an 8.5/10 episode that'd still miss my list to a 4.5/10 that's easily my second least favorite of pre-movie. I'll jest about episodes like Band Geeks not being worthy of the top 5, but the ending of this episode sickens me and I vehemently disagree with this making the list, and the top 10 to boot.

PS: Clappy said "people" have been criticising it but I've only seen myself doing so. If I'm not alone great, if I am just say my name lol I won't get riled up over the namedrop when it's true.

SO SQUIDWARD DID WIN, I KNEW IT! :D Unless that counts Fresh Breath   Nice spatula cameo as well.  ;)

I wanna say the first one happened first not because of that, but it seems likely that a behavior change in Plankton would've happened, plus what the heck happened to Karen? I just want to think she was able to be functional again, which would go the other way, but it seems highly likely she could be rebooted with some of the time machine or Bubbles the Dolphin logic. :P

Hi 13 year old me, what the fuck where you doung engaging in a question that's so stupid it could literally onky be asked by someone who didnt remember the right events from the movies endings?

  17. Algae was my number 6 and yet another Plankton episode in my top 10, as him having the krabby patty but going insane was done well. The funniest part was unintemtional, but I love him being too amazed by the situation to take that chance to see the actual formula if they tasted the same. It's just funny to see him being too caught up in the other antics like Squidward as a chef and Krabs' persistence actually driving him insane.

The best part of Nasty Patty is that they don't beat around the bush. They show Tge Inspector getting beaten up, choking, and SB & Krabs have a great dynamic in thinking they both actually killed him them tried to stuff his dead body in a freezer. It's completely insane for a kids show, avoids feeling like it went too far, and makes me wonder how Nick let it slide. It was great enough to slide into my number 7 spot this time.

*sees new shitty plot that sounds like a bad pre-hibernation week and makes me wish it was Sandy's Nutmare+Ink Lemonade like I predicted by the title instead*
