About Ren and Stimpy conncection, that show loves to use exaggrated faces, random jokes and some gross out humor. The difference between this and SpongeBob is that, (at least in Scumpo era) it fits in Ren and Stimpy's nature and Ren and Stimpy does tell story and use some clever gags with them. New era tried to use R&S' (and also in a way Looney Tunes') success but it failed because SpongeBob isn't always a wacky and gross cartoon with so many weird faces.

Also s11 legit added more Ren and Stimpy staff.

  2. New theory: After hinting it multiple times with jokes, s3 was really based around Hater and Wander's wedding, and Disney was so against it. That'd explain why they confirmed no season 3 before s2 even aired and why they were eager to dump it off to DXD because they knew in advance from the teasing from the scene that The Brainstorm had, but cancelling s2 would be too suspicious, so they had to greenlight the Lord Dominator plot which clearly defined Hater as at least into girls as to not have anyone suspect anything. That sound plausible?

Also I wouldn’t call Patrick unmotivated.  His actions in this episode were very motivated.  Granted his reason for opening the lemonade stand in the first place was never established upon, but he kept stating how he needed more ink.  So yeah, as much as I agree that this was another Patrick is a prick who deserves some sort of punishment for his actions here, I wouldn’t say his reasons for scaring Squidward weren’t motivated.

The lack of establishment is lazy writing and doesn't set up him willingly going that far without any doubts. There's nothing gained either as money is never brought up once, and then in the end he just decides to make cookies with spider eggs instead. If that can count as motivation, it's easily among the absolute worst that the show has to offer. Hell, they only found out about the ink because SB randomly yelled into a megaphone that had nothing to do with the plot! Was it because Patrick yelled into one after Squid asked about if he even had a license to sell anything?  Hell, speaking of the word anything, that's what SpongeBob doesn't do in the episode besides that! Why have him at all, because he's forced to be in every episode?

It's not even like there wasn't time to do have a proper setup, we really could've lived without some scenes like the spiders. I'm trying to look at this from a writing perspective and the episode is completely broken from the beginning. I thought Sportz was the absolute dumbest with the whole box shenanigans, I don't need to go over that again, but I really can't state just how much it annoys me here.

I have to agree that the comedy in GN was actually over the top hilarity, whereas here it was nothing but cruel and gross out gags.

Even the face from Whatever Happened was a joke with a proper setup as SpongeBob wondered if he was doing wrong, Ink doesn't even have anything like that while they just yell into megaphones, hell that is all that SB even does and it's a forced way to make Squid ink the first time! If I can say that face is better than all jokes in an episode like Ink which was supposed to be a wacky and hyperactive episode, there's a huge issue with the comedy!

buttttttt SpongeBob did realize his actions were wrong in Good Neighbours. Him and Patrick went to Squidward's house to apologize to him.

GN's an instance of SB & Pat annoying him but Squid taking it too far, and I always laughed at the head breaking through the door just so he could yell and stomp on the fezzes, that was cartoony enough for me to not be disturbed and like the scene rather than be sad like in Ink where the cartooniness is part of why I'm pissed beyond belief.

Sucks to hear that this was written by Kaz though.  Just goes to show how out of touch I am with this show because I didn’t even know he was back lmao.

He's been back for a while and even though it's not to Andrew Goodman levels, he's very hit or miss.

As for the predictability, I kept expecting Squidward to have something go his way because I thought we were past s6/7 in those regards so this legit surprised me, including that spider ending which legitimately made me uncomfortable and confused enough to piss me off just as much as the box contrivance from Sportz, and I already ranted on how much I hated that for my commentary so know I'm not exaggerating with my comparison, I'm 100% serious when saying I find it the worst ending of the series.

The animation was nice, and some visual gags were decent, but like people have said this is reminiscent of all the bad post movie eps plus the post-sequel issues as well, so the writing was bad enough to be my second worst as I've never hated visuals or animation, so those don't make up for the rest of it for me.

Hell, the only post movie issue it was missing was greedy Krabs and he would've made more sense doing this which is why I didn't mind Out of the Picture, so replacing him with a completely unmotivated Patrick was even worse than having another Krabs wants money exploitation plot ala Cent of Money, because at least that'd be in character with post movie, this isn't in character for Patrick at all!

Also we'd have it be the third worst if it didn't premiere the day of the deadline and would have it be above One Coarse Meal so it isn't fourth worst of all time bad :P

  7. Honestly unsure if it'd be my second or actual least, I admittedly have a bias against Sportz since it took something I'm interested in outside of SB and threw anything interesting out the window for the sake of a broken plot, but like jjs said Ink perfectly shows every single post-movie and sequel issue minus Mr Krabs in one episode...and it'd make more sense if it was Krabs instead of Patrick. For now it's 2 but next time it could honestly be number 1 thanks to the ending.

Lmao at the adjusted points being 50 points more than OCM though, fullt deserved.

eh, to me hatred is still deserved. I understand where you are coming tho, the episode, along with APFG, are hated so much because of...

    *KKTV end credits*

APFG & OCM had alright starts while you can tell Ink was gonna be bad from the opening shot of Patrick...and then like Fred said it became the worst parts of Squid's Visit and OCM's illegitimate love child alongside the Ren and Stimpy issues and grossout. Ink's is much more deserved even if APFG and OCM are Satan's spawn.

the fact that ink lemonade got thirteen last minute changes just to put it on the list deserves some kind of honorary #1 worst episode, at least

We count any additional changes like Whobob only seeing after the deadline and me hating it and wanting to move it up from 7th to 2nd to at least put it above OCM, a true accomplishment

Also force Clappy to watch it so he understands us, it's the only way

Goddammit More said my first point first, blocked again, slow mobile sucks how do people live on it :(

It's the same thing for The Simpsons with me, but there's very few writers that are just flat out terrible writers on Spongebob. I haven't seen this episode yet, but my intrigue is raised with how much people seem to dislike it. There's tons of examples of what I'm talking about; Aaron Springer wrote Band Geeks but also wrote Boating Buddies (I don't feel the need to talk about how the fandom views both episodes; I'm positive we're all familiar with it.), like how with The Simpsons, John Swartzwelder wrote Rosebud but also wrote Kill The Alligator And Run. Both are writers acclaimed by the show's fanbases, so I kind of think it's a matter of running out of ideas. It's something to note when talking about this. There's bad writers for both shows, but for the most part, all writers have their good episodes and their bad episodes.

I want to check this out if I have the chance this weekend. If so, expect a review.

Definitely true for this series, just looking at Gruber and Goodman's episodes have me confused on how there's a variety of good, mediocre, and bad. The lack of consistent quality is baffling ever since season 10 began, especially with 9B being such a notable upgrade outside of Fish Bowl and Food Con. Even after this disaster I can't give up yet.

This episode isn't quite up to the standards of those truly awful entries, and it definitely doesn't outdo something like Good Neighbors

At least Good Neighbors doesn't have the s10/11 hyperactivity issue and wasn't  as blatant as OCM was in having someone be scared for the entire episode, really don't see how this is better.

I have never seen Ink Lemonade.  Never plan to either to be honest since I rarely watch new SpongeBob unless you guys talk up and episode enough positively.  But it feels like I’ve practically seen it with all the commentary and mass rejection for how generally unlikeable it is, how offputting some of the animation is, and how terrible Patrick treats Squidward and so on and so forth.  Like I said, it feels like I’ve practically watched the episode with how often it’s been talked about right here right now on this site, hell even this thread.Btw, mark my words that Ink Lemonade will drop in future countdowns because this feels like too new levels of hatred like when Mr. Enter made the internet despise Pet Sitter Pat.  But that last sentence is besides the point.  My point is this:

    357683.jpg

...but does it have a moment like this!?

This is legitimately one of the last things you see in the episode after Squid has been constantly scared for the entire episode, as extra salt in the wound, and it was lead into like he might actually be treated nicely but instead they give a final middle finger to him to end the episode

Spoilers: Spider warning, those who've seen it know what I'm talking about and those who get easily unnerved by spiders, don't click

    Spoiler

    Glu1CcV.png?1

All of this is after the townsfolk shit on him once they realize what they've been notably convulsing at the entire episode is actually legitimately just his ink, and screw Squidward for at least trying to get something out of his torture. It's an episode where you need to see the entire thing to understand the scope of just how absurd it is, because it shows off every single problem I've had with both post-movie and post-sequel. There was no internet reviewer to make me and the rest of SBC hate it like how Enter did with Pet Sitter Pat, I legitimately had less than 24 hours to put it on my list given the deadline, and looking back I actually wish I put it higher. This episode might drop, but to me it is legitimately what I'd show first thing to new writers on how to not treat characters, and I've been contemplating making this my new number one, and after my Sportz rant, know that I'm not exaggerating when I say an episode is potentially my new worst.

Fungus is far less gross, less in your face about blatantly torturing a character, has a more cohesive plot in terms of why characters do things (quarantining SpongeBob while rude, at least made sense to do for the Bottomites while Patrick is selling lemonade because....they legitimately never even gave a motivation there which makes Patrick going so far all the more infuriating) and the only positive things I can find in Ink are completely dwarfed while I can at least get a laugh at the stupidity of pirate wrestling from Fungus.  So yes, Ink had a scene like that and even excluding those scenes from both, Ink is still a worse episode.

Had Choir Boys 13th, maybe next year I'll nail it on the dot :squilliam2:

Pets or Pests is one of those stupid gross-out ones and even though it actually annoys me unlike other episodes such as The Splinter, it keeps escaping my list. I'll honestly need to give it a rewatch because every time it shows up this high I want to reconsider it but I never can care enough to look too deep into it whenever I actually do watch it.

I'm glad to see others hate Slide Whistle Stooges as much as I do. This episode has always been hard to watch. Everyone was so mean-spirited besides SpongeBob and Patrick, who were just annoying with the slide whistles. The hospital scene in the episode where SpongeBob and Patrick play with the slide whistles with the injured fish makes me mad. How is that funny to the townspeople but Squidward using it is bad? (I mean he was a bit annoying with it, but still...). But yeah, fuck this episode. I always tend to skip watching this when I come across it.

Clearly they didn't assault any babies which makes everything they did OK!

  14. Kitchen is not that bad and has two pretty good jokes: "Oooh try it again" is ironically hilarious and Plankton leaping out of the Sandy suit and Larry not knowing how to respond was godly. I'm fine with it making the bottom 50 given the ending and the citizens being hypocritical but it's absurd that some episodes like Pet Sitter have slipped while this is still in the bottom 15.

On the other hand Slide Whistles is completely deserving and was 9th for me so even though I'd put it in the bottom 10, I can't complain. Think this is the highest it's made it too so I'm celebrating.
