  1. i had a VERY bad case of tonsilitis when i was around four years old, but i remember very little of what it was actually like, except that i got lots of ear infections and was pretty sick in general before they diagnosed me. (i can't even remember a lot about what it was like in hospital, other than the fact that i got to eat lots of jelly and ice cream after the surgery - a very happy memory for me :D)

of all the illnesses that i can actually remember, i'd say it would have to be appendicitis when i was 9-10 years old. thankfully it was diagnosed and operated on within the same day i started to feel pain, and i got a DSi from my mum afterwards for being brave ^_^

  2. Haven't listened to any of their albums yet, but I want to.

Should I start with Lift Your Skinny Fists or F♯ A♯ ∞? I heard both are great

Lift Your Skinny Fists is widely regarded as their best album, but F♯ A♯ ∞ is, to me, the album that best defines GY!BE and their apocalyptic themes (and it's extremely good too). I recommend starting with the latter, as I did, then moving on to Lift Your Skinny Fists.

Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada is also a good choice if you want a more condensed sample of the sort of stuff they do.

  3. Since their new album is being released today, I figured this would be a good time to make a thread for my favourite band.

Discuss the quasi-anarchist post-rock ensemble from Mile End, Montreal. What are your favourite albums/songs? How has listening to this band affected you? Stuff like that.

Me, I bought Lift Your Skinny Fists on vinyl yesterday. It's awesome. (The record store I perused also had a copy of Allelujah!, but my mum said I could only get one or the other. ;n;)

  4. Lowell George - What Do You Want The Girl To Do

my dad got our new turntable set up and Thanks I'll Eat It Here was the only record he could find in the house. so he played it and hooooly shit it is amazing :o

we've already ordered Beck's new album on vinyl, and i am planning to persuade dad to get a couple of Godspeed You! Black Emperor LPs too (and of course we have both agreed on getting The Dark Side of The Moon), so we'll definitely be putting this new turntable to good use in the future :D
