  1. It's hard to say. Aaron's work on seasons 1-3 is amazing, no doubt, and his contributions to seasons 4 and 5 are amongst the stronger, more well-paced, even smarter episodes (which admittedly sometimes feel a bit cluttered with all of the Bob and Pat inanity) But around Season 6 (lest we forget the dreaded "toenail scene") things just slipped. Badly. Lately he's been up and down. "Drive Thru" was great, but episodes like "Barnacle Face" and "House Sittin' for Sandy" whilst nowhere as infuriatingly bad as, say, "Pineapple Fever", are pretty superfluous and quite dull. It's difficult to say why exactly his writing has changed. Maybe just time tooks it toll on him? Eventually almost everyone loses it. Maybe it's his writing partners? Maybe the creative direction of Vincent Waller just keeps him from reaching true potential anymore. Whatever it is, I'm still weirdly glad he's here on the show. He's really "part" of it in a big way, and I'm always curious to check out his latest episode.

  2. What disturbs me the most isn't this video (which is disgusting), but moreso that this sort of thing doesn't even surprise me anymore. It's so shameful that this blind hatred is so frequent that I can become desensitized to it. What is wrong with people?

  3. I've heard so much about this, and I haven't watched the video, kind of afraid to. I don't want to see it, it already sounds downright horrific what this man has done, and I salute the ones who put together this video and I hope they and everyone succeed in bringing him down. I wish I could help, but alas I am broke. Anyone who can help the cause though, do so!

  4. This was an interesting season, in that it didn't so much feel like a show that had jumped the shark, rather a more watered-down program. Same characters, same settings, but almost a different show. A very different vibe. I think the storytelling this season was still pretty decent, and while the humor was very much weakened (save for a few gems like "Krusty Towers"), it didn't affect the show to an irrepairable state. This season was nowhere, and I repeat, NOWHERE near the wonder of pre-movie SB, but it's not guilty of the many shameful current trends the show has adapted in recent years. Slips in quality considerably, around the 3/3 of the season, though "Born to Be Wild" is decent, and "Wigstruck" is at least stupidly amusing. 'Rule of Dumb" is horrid, and irredeemable. But this season was all in all, pretty good. I give it a 6.7/10.

Highlights: "Fear of a Krabby Patty", Krabs Vs. Plankton", "Selling Out", "MM and BB VI", "Krusty Towers", "Ghost Host", "Wishing You Well"

  5. Luke, Nate, and Rich put together an..interesting episode about over-tanning? Another episode with no real beginning nor end to it's concept. It just sort of is, and that's about it. No satire, no subversion. It seems like there was some sort of intended idea, like maybe a touch on "hierarchies" of people. The top are tan and golden brown. But pale SB and Pat are bottom of the barrel. Like, they are trying to be the popular kids in school. That sort of symbolism. That's all I can gather, but it's not that well presented, and seems sort of ditched after a while. However, the episode is pretty amusing throughout, visually moderately charming, and the sun bleached SpongeBob is a neat design. All in all, not offensively bad or painfully dull. A plus for Season 6.

    Decent.

  6. Ah, I always love to see a cartoon show drum up a bit of controversy. Every cartoon, at one point or another, does the "bad language" or "political correctness" episode, but not many can trump SB's witty satire. My jaw dropped more than a few times during the chaos of this episode, but it also was impressively clever. Patrick's labeling of dirty language as "sentence enhancers" is a nice touch and further representation of early episode Patrick's more "misinformed type" personality, as opposed to blatant stupidity, and a lack of morals. Mr. Krabs trying to be the "adult", only to erupt with fowl fury later touches well upon the hypocrisy of parents and all of their scolding about profanity. Squidward's part is small, but significant, passing the word to Krabs without a real sense of surprise, which makes sense. Spongebob swearing like a sailor doesn't affect Squidward. Nothing does. Also, love the quick George Carlin nod ('Don't you mean there are only seven?") The episode simmers down with Eels and Escalators, which sets up perfectly the insanity that again explodes from SB's angry outbursts. And of course the ice-cream truck bit was amusing. The big finish with Mama Krabs, and the volley of verbal assault, is insane and downright hilarious. This episode did, at the very surface, walk a tightrope of common decency, but to the open-minded, intelligent viewer, the satire is evident. The PTC just didn't see that, they never dug through the surface, and thus, robbed themselves of one of SB's sharpest works of satrical humor

  7. I'm not going to do an "out of 10" review here, rather a lengthly explanation on my overall thoughts of this episode:

One of only three episodes written by early season 4 writer Mike Bell, and his only solo episode.

Ok, there's a lot to say about this one. It really seems like the original intention here brought on by the staff was to kind of bring back the vibe of simple, silly episodes dealing with happy go lucky pals Spongebob and Patrick, as their harmless hi-jinks unintentionally intrude upon Squidward's current "project", be it music or painting, or whatever. This has been part of the show since Naughty Nautical Neighbors. Unfortunately, Mike Bell doesn't capture that here. At all. First of all, I imagine any true fan of SB knows that you don't root for Spongebob and Patrick, and boo Squidward. Though he was often frustrated with their daily absurdity, he sometimes joined in, and often, would get his moments in the sun, so to speak. Here, he suffers a completely unfair mental pummelling. There is no real perspective here for any character. No two ways to look at it. It's black and white, and it's downright cruel. It's certainly easy to see with Spongebob and Patrick's newfound brainless behavior, that which are caricatures of their former selves, why Squidward no longer can even entertain the idea of joining them in whatever they are doing. Squidward can find no solace in this madness, no way, no how. If he joined the fun of pre-movie Bob and Pat, he'd often find a piece of excited fun he tends to forget he's missing. Just look at "Squidville" or my God, "Band Geeks". Now, hypothetically, if he joined the insanity of post-movie Bob and Pat, he'd probably go insane. There's no fun to be had in the mindless activities of Bob and Pat anymore. It's weird, but it's moreso scary.

This episode was a massive red flag for the series, and very sadly, a precursor to much more abuse to poor ol' Squidward. It happens to alot of shows. They forget who they are. This was the beginning of that. Now I'm just waiting for it to end.

  8. Casey, Zeus, and Derek shoveled alot of garbage at us in Season 7 (Earworm, Sponge-Cano!, Wreck of the Mauna Loa, etc.) but this was one of their better efforts, for sure. Bringing back the theme of karate was refreshing, and though opting for the "Patrick is stupid, and goes crazy" formula again, he isn't in full-on infuriatingly stupid mode, thank goodness. It loses it's way a bit near the end, just sort of flying off of the handle, which I guess is appropriate, be it actually intentional. But, yeah, no huge complaints.

    Decent.

  9. This episode is an interesting case for "pre-movie" SB. Most episodes from that era feel a bit more fleshed out, whether they are grounded in satire or in realistic depictions of everyday experiences (with a nice touch of surreality, of course), this one seems to settle for being outright silly. Then again, I imagine a butterfly is a rather frightening creature for anyone who doesn't know such a thing exists. Especially up close. All in all, this one was simpler, but alot of fun. Not a favorite of Season 2, but great nonetheless
