what other shows you'd like to check out but don't have time for them?

I just started Forever, at the request of my girlfriend. It's only a season long so it won't take that much time to watch (should be done by Sunday) but other than that I think the only other shows on my radar to start at the moment are Legion and unREAL (the latter being another recommendation from my girlfriend). Everything else is just stuff I need to catch up on. I haven't seen any of the new Doctor Who, I'm a few episodes behind on Archer and iZombie, I haven't seen The Flash since the mid-season finale, I have two more seasons of Survivor I still haven't seen, got a chunk of MST3K left, gotta get to Master of None season 2 and Catastrophe season 3, and I think I'm about 10 episodes behind on Critical Role (admittedly not a show but still a thing that requires watching). Girlfriend and I just finished Riverdale a couple days ago, and I just caught up on the back-half of the new Samurai Jack season last night and the new Survivor this morning so I'd be ready in time for their finales. There might be more that I'm forgetting. I know my Prime watchlist is absurdly long and packed with shows that I gotta get through, as is my Netflix list, but I'll take a crack at those after I'm done with all my "priority" shows.

you could always look it up online :funny: ...of course if you're only into watching shows legally, I get it?

Yeah, I suppose. Problem is that there's just too many other shows and too little time to watch everything.

    aww that sucks.

Amazon has the HBO deal, but they don't have much on Prime from what I can tell.

    Opinion on Black Lightning trailer?

I'm curious to see who's POV this is told from. Everyone on the DC subreddit seems to think that this is gonna be a really nice change of pace because we're gonna get a show about a hero that actually knows what the hell he's doing, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is more about one of his daughters and how her life is impacted day-to-day because of his actions, rather than him and his superhero antics.

Other than that, it looks really sweet. Not sure how I feel about it being on The CW, though - I hope it doesn't impact the tone too much.

I actually just watched the new MST3K season premiere with my girlfriend tonight since I'm trying to get her into it.  What would you say is the best one from this new season?

Honestly haven't had time to sit down and watch the majority of it - the past week has been hectic. Cry Wilderness is really great, though, and it's the second episode so following up with it is a no-brainer. I'll get back to you with more recommendations, assuming I finish before you do.

I want MST3K to do The Room?

Man I hope they don't. Not only am I exhausted of hearing about The Room for the past - what, 8 years - I just think they should stay strictly schlock from the 40s-90s and not dip into current mainstream movies. Like, I don't want them to do Sharknado. There's nothing interesting about that. I want them to do a movie I haven't ever heard of and have never been beaten over the head with.

Besides, RiffTrax already did it (and if you're unaware: RiffTrax is done by a handful of the cast from the original MST3K). If you're looking for people to riff on current movies, download some of their stuff. They're hilarious and they were a great way to get MST3K-flavor when there wasn't any.

Felicia Bae is amazing in MST3K?

Yeah, the whole cast is pretty stellar. I really wish the jokes were better, though. The whole feel of the show is very much inline with the original and it feels like they're basically picking up right where they left off, but the riffing is just... I don't know. Something feels missing there (though that might just be because I always preferred Mike's writing to Joel's, so it might just be my personal taste).

On the whole, though, really really happy with how this came out.

  7. Yeah, so, I can overlook the whole "unoriginal story" thing, because when you boil any story down to its base elements it's always going to resemble some sort of amalgam of things that already exists. The point is more to see how else that particular story can be told. This is a super basic premise and I don't think anyone at Sony thinks any differently - they just wanted to take it and see how you could tell that story through emojis (like how The LEGO Movie was a super basic premise told through legos). Fine, whatever. There's a clear fundamental misunderstanding on their part of why some movies like this are successful, but that can't be entirely be helped when you have a movie created by executives and market research.

See, my problem with this is that we're supposed to take this thing seriously. Are they for real with some of the lines in this? "What if you get sent out in the phone - making the wrong face?"/"Dad, I'll make the right face! Then I'll finally fit in..."/"I'm an Emoji, I've gotta have some sort of purpose here!" The fact that they're actually trying to sell that as the main conflict and Gene's character arc is just downright insulting to the audience's intelligence. It's a shame too, because TJ Miller is honestly pretty perfect casting for the "meh" character trait, and this cast by and large is just way too talented and well-respected to be given this kind of material to work with.

Also, lol at the eggplant emoji being in the "rarely used" lounge. I feel like that just shows how out of touch Sony is with this whole thing.

I sincerely hope this is a ? and it gives everyone over there a rude awakening that they can't just ? things out.

I can't wait for Riverdale to come out on Netflix so I can binge it?

Hopefully you won't be disappointed. I think it's better binged - some plot elements tended to get lost on a week-to-week basis and having it all at once is gonna make things clearer.

I'm 5 episodes in and I'm liking it?Two of the standout episodes to me so far are one about religion and another one about Dev going on Tinder (or something that's supposed to be a parody of it) dates.

Nice, can't wait to get started. Just gotta get through the MST3K revival first.

Have you been watching season 2 of Master of None?

Not yet. Been busy the past few days, so I haven't had much time. It's on my radar though, and I'm hoping to get to it within a week or so. Is it good?

  10. Also have recently started reading My Hero Academia. It's... okay? I'm about 20 chapters in, and I'll keep reading to pass the time, but aside from the art it doesn't feel like there's anything to write home about.

    your Guy Fieri looks amazing

I'm really digging these Food Network ones coming from someone who grew up watching most of these shows. I'd love to see you tackle something with Alton Brown one day.

Thanks! Shockingly a lot of people really loved these too.

Barefoot Fetish Contessa was almost Good Feets - which would've just been Alton Brown gushing about all these different types of feet and how they satisfy him. Also was close to doing Next Food Network Czar, but that wouldn't have really been about him. Futurama did basically the perfect Iron Chef parody, so that's off the table. I have a Cutthroat Kitchen parody in mind but it's super gross and sexual and I don't know how, er, appealing it would be to read. But yeah - I'm disappointed I couldn't find anything to do with him because he's amazing.

As someone who enjoys watching the Food Network on occasion I am loving these comics

I did this as an assignment in one of my classes this past semester; the professor just told us to pitch him a concept for an 8 page comic and then work on it for the semester. When I pitched it to him he was just kinda like "yeah... okay... I mean, I like it, but I don't know if there's any real overlap between people who watch Food Network and people who read comics".

    I sure showed him!

Been binging on Dear White People instead. It's good?

I'm also behind. I've been alternating between watching the new MST3K and the last batch of Survivor I still haven't seen. Too many shows to watch.

    ikr.

I feel like they just don't know what to do with Peyton, so they included this unnecessary love triangle to us. I also agree that everyone being cool with Blaine, except Ravi, who really have to be written as an asshole in last min of the 3rd episode, is wrong. Even if you have amnesia, you have to pay for your crimes and I hate how the show ignores that. Good news for you that last episode didn't focus on Blaine/Peyton bullshit and they gave us a compelling episode. I just hope they remove love triangle in next episode, so we can focus more on zombies vs humans.

Yeah, Ravi being painted as an asshole is one of my problems with it. He's the only rational one and he has to be an asshole because of it. Just introduce another zombie for Peyton to get involved with, or have her working on some case that's important to the plot like last season, or just stick her with Ravi, or anything other than this. I liked her character last season and she should be smart enough to understand that Blaine is a horrible person and his crimes don't get absolved because he has amnesia and a cute face.

as for iZombie, excluding love triangle shit, season 3 has been pretty good imo?

I audibly groan whenever there's a scene with that. I just don't understand it. Even if Blaine isn't faking his memory loss (still two episodes behind, so no clue if it was revealed that he was or not), that doesn't just erase who he was. He was such a horrible person, how the hell is everyone so quick to forgive him? Everyone knows firsthand what he's done and what he was capable of and he was consistently a thorn in everyone's side, and they're suddenly just fine with him now because Peyton thinks he's cute? Ugh. I hate it so much.
