    You're into Persona 5?

Very much. I had to get my wisdom teeth out and I was gonna be held up in bed for a bit, so I decided to buy it so I could pass the time because I had heard good things about it (it was my first Persona game so I had no clue what to expect) and then after my mouth healed I still had the need to play. I think I lost about a week of productivity because of it. I beat it a few days ago and I'm forcing myself to not get into NG+ for a good long while because I can't spend another 100 hours glued to my TV. I have my fair share of criticisms, but man it was super fun and just so stylish.

I loved Wonder Woman as well. I have concerns with Justice League and The Flash but I'm so excited for Aquaman, mainly because of James Wan?

I just can't wait for people to finally stop shitting on Aquaman.

ayy have you seen Wonder Woman?

I have! My girlfriend's more into superhero movies than I am so I took her to see it a few weeks ago. I actually really enjoyed it, much more so than anything Marvel's put out recently. She typically loves every movie we go see and I typically have criticisms about everything and I walk away feeling less than satisfied (Rogue One, Doctor Strange, and Guardians Vol. 2, to be specific) and I walked away from Wonder Woman with pretty much no critiques and she ended up having more negative things to say than I did. If DC can keep up that quality going into Justice League, Aquaman, and The Flash, then I'll be really happy.

  4. I thought it was pretty good. From what I remember Rhys Darby doesn't get too too much to do, which was my main complaint as well, but each episode bleeds into the next and it feels more like a movie just broken up into segments rather than a show, so I forgave them for not utilizing Rhys Darby as much as possible because it wouldn't really make sense to. I'd say if it intrigued you at all, give it another shot. If anything it's at least different from practically everything other comedy right now, and I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did considering it was made by TBS?

It looks faithful to it's source material (which IMO, Ghost In The Shell was also)

Really? I dunno, they kind of mucked up Light's character a lot. In the anime he's this super good looking amazingly perfect intelligent alpha kind of guy, and here he looks very... opposite of most (if not all) of that. He's very underdogish here. Looks like a typical weirdo-outcast kind of guy and he gets bullied. Like they're trying to make him relatable. But - and I don't know about anyone else, maybe I just watched Death Note wrong - I didn't exactly find myself rooting for Light at all in the original. I wanted him to get got. Maybe they'll do something interesting with the underdog/weirdo trope and poke fun at it, but I think they just shouldn't have touched his character to begin with. It makes the dynamic between him and L less interesting when he's not perfect. If he's just some typical kid then I'll just be thinking "how is this guy beating L?!" the entire time.

Looking for a good Netflix binge watch.  You've introduced me to a few good ones, what do you recommend?

Hm. I haven't done much in the way of binge-watching recently. The Inbetweeners is really good, and Netflix has the series plus both movies. The Great British Baking Show is great. Pushing Daisies and Superstore are really worth watching too (on CW Seed and NBC respectively). I think I mentioned Superstore to you a bit ago and you didn't seem too into it, but I'm gonna suggest you give it another chance if you haven't already.

I'll give that one a looksie. Sounds more my type of show.

It's exactly what it looks like: a magical girl animu dubbed by Saban? As for what it's comparable to...I'd say Sailor Moon (they even have a voice actress from the Viz dub in there) with elements of Power Rangers.

Hm. Not really a huge fan of that sort of thing.

Will check out Into the Badlands soon. My girlfriend just got my hooked on Pushing Daisies, so I'm into that right now. What's Glitter Force comparable to? I like Laura Bailey a lot (she's one of the best parts of Critical Role) but the show itself doesn't look very... up my alley. Is it a "just trust me on this one, it's not what it looks like" sort of thing like Madoka? Or is it exactly what it looks like?

The end was nice but also gave me mixed feelings because I'll miss OP so much. Definitely the best webcomic I've ever read.

    Who's your favorite character?

Embarrassed to say I haven't read enough yet to have any opinions. I'll do some reading next week and get back to you.

for me, I really loved the movie. I'm still not hopeful for Justice League and other DC movies coming out, except for Aquaman but they at least got Wonder Woman right imo. So I hope you find some enjoyment with it?

Yeah, I mean, I'm sure it won't make me fall asleep like Doctor Strange or make me irrationally angry like Guardians of the Galaxy.

have you seen Wonder Woman yet?

Not yet. Going with my girlfriend either this weekend or sometime next week. Not totally looking forward to it, but if the reviews are right I at least won't hate it.

  13. My personal dream is that Anabel is actually from an alternate universe (and wasn't just sucked up into a wormhole in this universe's Hoenn), and these games took place in that universe. It'd be a pretty unique and interesting way of explaining all sorts of things that are commonplace in third versions - like how in Emerald and Platinum the Pokedex got expanded and more Pokemon were found in the wild; that could be hand-waved away in this by saying that it just takes place in an alternate universe. It'd explain why Necrozma and Solgaleo/Lunala are still around, even though they were caught by the player character, and there could be gyms here without taking away the uniqueness of trials (because in theory those would still be around in the Alola we played through in S/M).

More likely it'll just be, like, Gladion and maybe Kukui doing science stuff with Colress working them behind the scenes to bring Alola into the future, and then Colress goes off the rails and upsets Necrozma, or something.

I can't believe Octopus Pie is over now?

WHAT. I had no idea. She didn't bring that up in class at all. Now I wish she had told us so she could've given us a lecture on what the hell to do after you end a comic.

Man, that's wild. I'll have to binge it soon.

I don't really mind not having an actual Pokemon game for the Switch, at least not yet anyway. I thought the gameplay and mechanics really hit its stride and felt more seamless when it's played on two screens rather than just one. Plus, I would think it'd be a smarter move to save a Switch Pokemon game for a new generation entirely.

Curious to see what it's gonna be about. Heard murmurs that they could just be a re-telling of Sun and Moon similar in the vein of FR/LG, HG/SS and OR/AS, which may be too soon and might quickly cheapen the experience that the originals gave off just a year prior. I mean, at least with the other remakes, there was a sizable time gap in between to actually upgrade those original experiences both in gameplay and in story. I feel this whole re-telling would fly more had it been made for the Switch.

There's no way it would be a re-telling this soon. FR/LG, HG/SS, and OR/AS are all remakes of past generations, updated for the new generation of handhelds that were out at that time. There's no point in remaking the current generation on the same handheld a year later. It doesn't make financial sense, or just sense in general. It's a third installment, similar to every other third installment that's come before it.

I'd assume it's gonna be in-line with B2/W2 - meaning more direct sequels rather than something like Emerald or Platinum, but there was so little information that there's no way to tell yet.

Fair enough.. I think I need to start watching the right shows. :P

Happy Endings and New Girl are two of the best sitcoms from the past 5ish years that highlight relationships and friendships. But, I mean, what kind of shows are you watching? I feel like basically every show has romance and friendships. Unless you mean you want friendships between single characters, in which case.... yeah, I dunno, you're watching shows about adults and teenagers (most likely) and adults and teenagers like dating.

  17. 3 hours ago, The Who said:

I seriously want more female/male (that aren't related) friendships in tv shows. Is that too much to ask?

Yes. Romance creates drama. Drama creates story. Story creates episodes. We may have amazingly weird and strong friendships in real life with the opposite sex, but just because something like that works in real life doesn't mean it'd be able to carry (roughly) three dozen A-plots over the course of a show (could be more, could be less, three dozen would be about three seasons and would still leave another three dozen episodes free for other plots). It's inherently more interesting (not to mention easier to write) if a couple breaks up and tries to remain friends and then ends up back together (or not) than if they're just friends the entire time because we can go through ups and downs and be invested in the relationship and get both perspectives and root for them to either succeed or fail.

In my opinion (and you touched on this a bit a few posts ago) the problem mostly stems from poor writing more than anything else. In order to create those stories, the writers have to kind of find loopholes and jump through hoops and have their characters not communicate properly so they get into arguments - which is fine to a point, but too much of it does get overwhelming (I think Jack/Ashi needed to happen so there was weight to the finale, but I also think it felt like Genndy only realized towards the end of production that he needed to do that and kind of yadda-yadda'd the build up). However, doing that is still better than the alternative of having a nice stable friendship be the center of everything - and if it's not stable... then what's the point? I won't speak for everyone, but I'm not going to get invested in an on-again/off-again friendship with awkward platonic tension; I'm not gonna tune in each week to see if they finally get that coffee or if they decide they'd be better off as acquaintances.

We have no information about the series, so it's safe to assume terminoob is just writing this off because of how other unrelated projects turned out.

When the original creator is back, things usually go well. If terminoob declines the show after actually learning more about it, that's fine and rational.

    Hi. terminoob here.

I thought the show had had too many uninteresting/downright annoying segments and characters, I don't think they'll be able to be as biting as they were in the 90s (unless they get picked up by FXX or HBO or something, but, like, the original worked as both a show for kids and a show for adults so if they get picked up by a network primarily watched by adults I think they'd just be neglecting a good portion of their prospective audience and would maybe just go too far in the innuendos and entendres and whatnots and lose sight of any kind of substance), I think Spielberg is wasting his time and energy when he could be making original content, I don't think original creators have anything to do with how well a reboot works (Futurama was aggressively average, MST3K isn't working for me), I don't understand the need to brand this as a "reboot" because they could just as easily say they're just making new episodes, unless they're planning on restructuring how the show functions in which case it's going to disappoint people expecting the same exact thing as before, I think the show is going to lose a lot of charm because there's zero chance they're going with the same look as before and they'll probably be animated on Flash in a cutesy-looking style like the new Ducktales show/Mickey Mouse shorts, or it'll try to be trendy and go with the popular Rebecca Sugar-esque style of drawing and animating.

If people are allowed to be excited and blindly optimistic about two paragraphs of information, I'm allowed to be skeptical based on current trends of what's going on and my opinion of the quality of the original show based on the same exact two paragraphs of information.

Maybe the show will prove me wrong, maybe the show will prove everyone else wrong. Who knows. I'm very... uh... what's the word... It's on the tip of my tongue... Oh, yeah! Uninterested.
