The event was video game themed (a highly requested event theme) and acted as a tie-in for ''Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated''. It replaced the [[Spin-Off Festival]] for the year but some elements of it were still used. The name of the event was coined by [[sbl]].

The event received a sequel in 2023 known as [[Arcade Anarchy II]] and would become a yearly event afterwards.
