Dougie Williams Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Only seen 10 maybe 15 times need to watch more to have an opinion
SomeCanadian6 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 This one is overrated to the limit. I'll admit, I hate the firmly grasp it scene, I hate the Squid abuse. Fans shouldn't heil it just because it's in Season 1.
SpongebobViewer64 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I remember Pieguyrulz stating that the main reason why it's different the arm stabbing thing is that there is a reason why Patrick is acting like that. Squidward cannot tell them what's going on so it's not like the new episodes where squidward is begging Spongebob to stop bugging him and he furthers the tortur
BobSponge PantsSquare Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. IT IS JUST HORRIBLE! It's got way too much squidward abuse and he didn't deserve ANY of it. It is also a bit cringe-heavy and BORING. It's not funny, it's just way too mean-spirited. 2/10
illiniguy34 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 This was the first Spongebob episode I ever saw, and I even still remember when I first saw it! I think it still holds up today and anybody just being exposed to the show can FIRMLY GRASP IT! *stabs Squidward's hand with a net* That outta do it! 1
Popeye Q. Krabs Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Every time I think about this episode, I always remember the whole "firmly grasp it" scene too. Very funny stuff that holds up even now IMO. 2
The Guy With the Computer Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 In my opinion, the abuse toward Squidward is handled very well here, since he's somewhat of a jerk at the beginning. Plus, it has some excellent jokes, and is overall a very good episode. 8.5/10
Grimmy Claus <3 Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I am of the opinion that when you deserve pain, you should get it. But this is handled through fate which is also called karma, and it is quite silly that nobody really understands the difference between karma and abuse. In Jellyfishing!, Squidward gets attacked by a jellyfish after he has been sarcastic with SpongeBob and Patrick. However, I think it's OK to not want to play with somebody, but he was quite rude to them so he got zapped. I am now wondering if the whole episode is punishment for that one moment and all subsequent. Is this where Squidward started his string of bad luck? I am interested to know more. 10/10
SquiddyFace Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Very funny and enjoyable episode. "The firmly grasp it" scene is one of the funniest of the season Grade: A+ PS: Also how is there "Squid Abuse" here?
SpongeNicko Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 Many might disagree with me, but this is honestly one of my all time favorite episodes, my 9th in fact. It is an incredibly hilarious and classic episode, in fact I believe this is the first episode of the show where they started attempting a lot more great comedy. Plus this is squid abuse done right. He does act like a bit of a jerk towards SpongeBob and Patrick towards the beginning, and since he's bandaged both SpongeBob and Pat have the excuse of not knowing that Squidward hates what they're doing. Plus both of them also get stung a lot in this episode, so it never feels like everything is just purely out there to get Squidward. I also love the beginning of this episode with the montage of SpongeBob and Patrick getting ready to go jellyfishing, espeically the part where they go down the rope and their hands catch fire. That part made me LOL! So yeah, it's an amazing episode with a classic setup, great squidward karma, so many funny lines and scenes "FIRMLY GRASP IT!", and of course the great Season 1 atmosphere. This episode is basically "The Thing" from Season 4 done the correct way. The old writers knew how to handle this type of plot a lot better than the new writers do, and so they were able to produce an incredibly hilarious and charming episode that has etched a spot in my Top 10. 10/10. 1
BacktoReviews Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 5/10. The firmly grasp it scene was very funny but otherwise it's kinda bland and I feel really bad for Squidward particularly at the ending.

People tend to have more love for pre-movie episodes than they have for post-movie episodes just because they were before Hillenburg left. And yet Seasons 9B-12 have mixed to positive reception.
