Obscure Interest Sharing Thread!

Got a thing you're really into but nobody in the forums is into it? Now's the time to share it!

Let's start with mine! Wie is de Mol and De Mol are the Dutch and Belgian versions of The Mole respectively. They're both enticing and fun to watch while fucking you up at same time.

The premise of both shows is that 10 participants try to win money from assignments, and the winner gets the money from the pot. In WIDM, they are Dutch celebrities(Though Belgian ones aren't unheard of), but in De Mol, they are Belgian civilians. The plot twist is that one of the participants, the Mole, is actively trying to sabotage and keep money away from the pot.

At the end of every episode, there is a test containing 20 questions about the Mole's identity. The person with the fewest correct answers gets eliminated. However, jokers/pasvragen can be used to correct one answer per joker/pasvragen. Exemptions can be used to avoid the test all together, guaranteeing the person makes it to the next episode. Of course, the Mole is never eliminated. There are also times where the group is given an option to avoid anyone being eliminated for the episode.

At the final 3, the final test is given. Unlike the normal test, there are 40 questions in WIDM, but I think in the Belgian version it's 30 instead? I can't remember. The person who gets the most answers right wins and gets the money from the pot. In WIDM, the mole isn't revealed until the reunion, the episode after the finale where the final test takes place. Sometimes, they'll reveal the winner or runner-up at the finale, but never the mole. In De Mol, however, the mole, winner, and runner-up are all revealed at the finale, making the reunion completely optional.

In WIDM, after the reveal, they discuss the mole's sabotages and actions. So aside from the reveal, the rest of the reunion is optional.

Now only S8 - S10 and S15 - S19  of WIDM and S4 - S7 of De Mol are completely subbed. And also, some seasons spoil others! So here's some warnings for the subbed seasons.

Spoiler

Spoilerless: WIDM S18 and S8, De Mol S4 and S7

Minor/Optional spoilers: WIDM S19(First boot of S18 is spoiled in the first episode, and the reunion spoils S15's mole, however that is after the reveal so it's optional)

Spoils: S9(Pretty much spoils the moles of WIDM S1 - S8, so avoid it), S15(Spoils WIDM S8 winner), S16(Second episode has guest appearances of 5 past moles, I have no clue what seasons though because I pretty much stopped watching that season to avoid spoilers)

I haven't seen them all yet: WIDM S10 and S17, De Mol S5 and S6

Also, there's a show called Moltalk on WIDM's website which discusses WIDM episodes. Avoid that, but especially if you haven't seen S15. They also often have past winners and past moles on that show.(NOTE: The S15 warning really only matters in recent Moltalks, I have no clue who hosts the earlier ones). Also, avoid the Wikipedia pages of anyone on the show until you've completed the season! Also, when it comes to WIDM, avoid any host's page.

Spoiler

Because two of the hosts of WIDM were also participants.

EDIT: I didn't considered this last night but also watch it on Private/Incognito mode! Spoilers might start to appear on your recommended videos if you watch a lot of it.

ANYWAYS, after all that talking. Here are the links to the subtitles!

WIDM English Subs

De Mol English Subs S4 and S5

De Mol English Subs S6 and S7

De Mol English Subs S7(NOTE: The actual episodes are in the description of the videos, unlike the above this also has Drive links)

I’m known to have a bit of a taste with more obscure pieces of animation with classics I’ve made SBC discover with my love for them such as the amazing Wunschpunsch and Eek! The Cat.

I guess my music tastes can be a bit more obscure (but a lot of electronica like IDM still have quite a bit of a cult following), so maybe more of my obscure favorites are a lot of the non Fila Brazillia-downtempo acts on the amazing Pork Recordings record label. Bullitnuts and Moss for example are awesome artists with the downtempo electronica sound... probably the same with the duo I haven’t tried out yet from the label called Baby Mammoth. Brothomstates comes in mind for more obscure IDM but everyone else in mind that I really love are a bit more famous.

I'm not really sure how obscure the You Don't Know Jack games are, but I've never known of anyone outside of my family speaking of them so I'll put them here. Basically it's a trivia/comedic mix of a game, with some host that constantly likes to poke fun at you. My dad owned the PS1 version since as far back as I can remember, and even though I was way younger than the intended audience I always found it to be an interesting game. It wasn't until around 2014 when I found out about the series as a whole, and I became enamored in some of those videos. Fast forward to present day, and just a week ago I made a Steam account to purchase the first four volumes in the series. So far, it's been worth the wait. All that's left now is to wait for my brother to come home for the weekend so we can try out the multiplayer...

I love Jackbox Games. They have a party pack series of other games that are pretty fun to play with friends/family.

Other game franchises I love are Five Nights at Freddy's & Bendy and the Ink Machine, both indie horror games. FNAF specifically gets a ton of undeserved hate, and even though it's annoying, I still love the games and have continued to support them since late 2014. Bendy has alot of the same elements as FNAF, but I didn't get into it until last year.

I also enjoy watching videos covering internet mysteries/real-life mysteries/ARGs. Some of my favorite channels who talk about this stuff are Nexpo, blameitonjorge, and ScareTheater.

darkness back at it again

Not really THAT obscure, but I'm in a pickle where I can't talk to any fans due to how far behind I am and how much I want to avoid spoilers.

It's the Australian version of Survivor! The history of this series is kind of a doozy. There was a season in 2002 and a celebrity season in 2006. Both of those seasons aren't looked at nicely by the fanbase, I believe it's because they're considered boring(I watched an episode of 2002 and yeah, I can see it). After 10 years of being stranded in limbo, the series was revived by Ten Network into the one I know and love today.

Including the failed attempts, there are 6 seasons. They're going to have an All-Stars edition next month but I won't be able to watch that live, since I haven't even completed the first revived season yet(I skipped the 2002 and 2006 ones lel).

If any of you are fans of Survivor, I highly recommend the revived Australian Survivor! I'm almost at the end of the 2016 edition, the first revived season, and I've been enjoying it so much! The season's are kinda long though, 2016 has 26 episodes which are 45 to 80 minutes long, but I know other shows that make that look tiny in comparison.

I've kiiinda made it well known by this point, but I've recently gotten into Discordianism. A lot of people seem to just see it as a joke and nothing more, but that's only giving it half credit. It's more like a postmodern Zen Buddhism with neopagan and occult elements. It certainly has humor and playful chaos as a central focus, but it isn't entirely a joke.

in a sentence, Discordianism is "a joke disguised as a religion and a religion disguised as a joke" . After so many years having to ensure all the bullshit life's thrown at me since birth, I've found something that truly brings me peace and happiness.

I've got a lot of these, but recently I've started reading a ton about Satanism and while it's not something I personally believe in, there's a lot about it that's really interesting and a lot I agree with. While the alt-right death and destruction kind can kindly fuck off, I like a lot of the stuff about defying authority and how the Golden Rule rewards parasitic behavior, and what not. It's a really strange religion in that its pretty much made out of skepticism of the concept of a god, and while I like that, I'm not too crazy about "being your own god" because it can be easily misinterpreted to lead people on ego trips with the whole worshipping yourself part but I guess that part isn't super mandatory. Still, I prefer to be religiously unaffiliated/agnostic (it kinda fluctuates lmao) but it's certainly an interesting religion.

Here's some more:

-Not endorsing their use and what not but psychedelic drugs. I absolutely love looking at art and just general media influenced by it. I find it absolutely fascinating how real substances can lead the mind to do stuff like that. Also trip simulator videos are a really cool experience. Might do them in the future, but I don't wanna talk about my personal experience with something illegal on a public site like this.

-Pop music. I love videos of people ranking Billboard lists like Todd In The Shadows and also people authoring them like Wumbo. It's just so interesting to me what people latch on to and how much weird ass shit has charted. That whole C.W. McCall thing is fascinating. The dude was a marketing executive who created a character... and then proceeded to come him, release shitty country music and release "Convoy", and then release socially conscious stuff in the late 70's/80's.... and then become the mayor of some town in Colorado 10 years after Convoy charted. What the hell.

-East Asia. No idea why. Countries like China, Cambodia, Vietnam... are just fascinating to me. I have no idea why.

This is more of a guilty pleasure, but here goes:

I can't stop watching those wretched New 3 Stooges cartoons from the 60s - which are on a multitude of those cartoon DVDs you've probably seen at Target or Toys 'R' Us. These are so unspeakably horrible - especially the later ones.  it's pretty obvious a lot of these were banged out just to get these on TV.  I can't stop watching these, though. The stock library music used is pretty darn good, and I actually like a lot of the sound effects used - even if the editing IS pretty weird at times. Below are a few samples of a real "so bad it's entertaining" cartoon. They pretty much speak for themselves, I think:

I know it's weird, and kind of a taboo thing that I'm really not open about at all, but this year I've realized I have a really strange interest in vintage erotica/porn, really just the history of it all, especially in America from the turn of the 20th century and especially during the 60's-80's. It's really not because I'm particularly interested in the sexual subject matter (I honestly am to an extent), I think it's really because it's almost like a second, more underground film industry as juxtaposed to the very accessible main industry. It's something that was shunned for years, still has been shunned, and something almost everyone who consumed it did so in private. Now I think despite it being a very intimate thing, society has a big stick up it's ass about sex in media and the history of sexual media being demonized (still is to an extent) while those who made them persevered, knowing there's not inherently anything wrong with depicting sex in film (Minus stuff like Deep Throat where actors were raped on set, all of the films where actors were abused in one way and another were awful and should not be celebrated). It's especially interesting considering that a lot of porn in the 70's and 80's were feature length and pretty much had plots, a far cry from what you'd find on the internet nowadays and even if you were to buy porn DVDs, they're usually very short in terms of length. Not criticizing those at all, it's just a big difference. I'm a film major, and IDK, vintage porn and exploitation films are just fucking fascinating to me, because of how much they challenged the norms of filmmaking and what's considered normal in it and how, especially with the adult film industry, it's almost like an underground, second industry in a way, especially back in the day. Back then, you either stole your dad's Playboy stash, had to settle for the underwear section in the local department store magazine, or found the classic lone box of Playboys/other porn in the woods, or you went to the adult room in your local video store and ran the risk of social suicide, or if you knew where any adult stores were (back in the days where you couldn't just google where these things were), went there and again ran the risk of social suicide.

I don't feel exactly comfortable sharing it, but I do wanna get it out there. I really do keep it to myself as sex is a very intimate thing and not one I'm comfortable being open about, but the history of the industry is goddamn fascinating to me. My interest admittedly kinda dies around the 90's, but whatever. I just think it really ties into my interest in things that are non-conventional, and again, my interest in film and it's history.

I didn't really realize it until the other day but the main reason I'm interested in it is despite it being a multimillion dollar industry, porn is pretty much barely documented at all. Which is weird, because it's a decently well-known genre that almost all of us are aware of. And a lot of these films, mainly in the late 60's-70's played important roles in the sexual revolution and film history in general in regards to exploitation/more experimental/underground cinema but these films just really were never documented thoroughly. A lot of the industry is shrouded in mystery and kinda lost to time and that stuff always interests me so that too. Also establishments like porn theaters and stuff like porn magazines and adult home video from back in the day fascinate me, again from the lack of documentation. Ofc I'm only almost 20 but it's just so weird to think that 40 years ago if you wanted to uhh..... do your business and had no access to home video of any sort (be it betamax or a film reel) you had to go out and do it in public, avoid trying to get caught and arrested for indecent exposure, risk social suicide, and do it in a shady ass movie theater. I don't yearn for those days, in fact they sound miserable, but it's just so weird considering now an insane network of it is at our fingertips pretty much whenever.

I've kind of picked up a small interest in dinosaurs. Idk they all look so different and a lot of them just look wack and are really cool when you read up on them, but I'm also really interested in prehistoric life in general. I've also been fascinated by Iceland recently, idk why. Nordic countries interest me in general and Iceland is beautiful as hell, but man I didn't know it was that small until recently.
