RD Rockruff
Now, while I will say that KKTV is a pretty good episode, I've seen it enough times that it's just not as funny to me. It would still likely make my top 50 but it's just not as worthy of the top 25 to me anymore. 12 hours ago, 4EverGreen said: Unpopular opinion time, "Shanghaied" and "Wet Painters" are VASTLY over-rated! If you really think CAREFULLY about both of those episodes, they're BOTH just "Shaggy Dog Stories." And I mean that, in the sense that in the vast scheme of things, they don't REALLY contribute anything significant to the "Spongebob Squarepants" canon, other than "Shanghaied" being the first SIGNIFICANT role for the Flying Dutchman. Also, "Christmas Who?" is an okay episode, but I just like the stop-motion Christmas special better. Finally, "The Krusty Krab Training Video" episode ending, WAS "The Soprano's" series ending, six years BEFORE that ending ever came about! Hopefully, the top three episodes will actually BE episodes that will be WORTH all the anticipation that everyone has been hoping for! (Waits to see how many users give me a "Sad" reaction for THIS comment!) Enough said! Implying this show has continuity

Popular Post Wumbo
3. "We'd better start now if we want to get through this list before you die!... of anticipation." Dying for Pie, 335 points (21 of 32 lists. 4 #1 votes - Wumbo/CDCB/PatBack/ForgottenOne) http://spongebob.wikia.com/wiki/Dying_for_Pie BeachBob: Wow! #3 is a great spot for this episode. I saw it again today and I must say the story is actually very intriguing. The viewer is expected to believe that SpongeBob is going to die at the end of the episode, and has Mr. Krabs and Squidward actually sorta mourning him throughout the episode. That's some tough shizzle. So a quick observation: after whatching all of season 1 and part of season 2 the last couple of days, I noticed that Squidward actually says he likes SpongeBob a few times. Every time SpongeBob is enjoying himself with something, it's actually Squidward who's jalous of the happiness en carelessness that SpongeBob has. So it makes absolute sense why Squidward would like him deep down. I never noticed this trait in the later episodes. This episode is pure gold. We see Squidward struggling with the fact that he did something terrible, while having to engage in SpongeBob's weird friendship activities, which are hilarious by the way. Squidward is so sweet in this. The two highlights for me are the very beginning and the very ending. At the beginning we see a bit of Squid's day and him not at all feeling like working and interacting with his co-workers, nor caring about them. This all changes when later he finds out that SpongeBob will in fact not come back after that day, which is beautifully portrayed in my opinion. At the end I actually got goosebumps, as Squidward was supposed to count down to the explosion, untill he realises SpongeBob is still alive. (That is actually so sinister, now that I write it down). The little conversation the two have at the end might be one of the best of the series, as Squidward was about to mourn his friend, but now feels relieved as well as puzzled as well as angry at the same time, and tries to figure out what has happened. This episode feels so real. There were no meanspirited jokes and the feelings felt humanly genuine. The parts that make it lighthearted do a terrific job of assuring the viewers that there will be a solution at the end. Also the pie doesn't feel as dangerous anymore as soon as you find out Squidward survived the explosion. All in all, this is a true masterpiece, and like Wumbo, I used to put this episode on my #1 spot for many years. Will you take it away, buddy? Wumbo: I feel like people pick their #1 episodes partly based on where they believe the core of the series lies. If you think it lies within the dynamic between Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob, you might go with Welcome to the Chum Bucket. If you think SpongeBob and Patrick antics are where the show really shines, you might go with Wet Painters. But for me, the very core of the series lies with SpongeBob's relationship with his next-door neighbour and frequent character foil, Squidward. And this is the episode that shows their relationship at its absolute funniest, most heartwarming, most suspenseful, and overall best. This episode does absolutely everything well. It starts out so brilliantly, showing Squidward's annoyances towards SpongeBob and his work through an interrupted dream sequence. This opening, for whatever reason, has stuck with me, and it's my favourite opening in the series. We can all relate to Squidward at some point in our lives, being rudely awoken from our dreams to face the mundanities of reality. Once Squidward gets to work, the plot kick-starts with Employee Brotherhood Day. I think the key part of this episode is that Squidward is not being malicious by purchasing the bomb pie, but rather naive and lazy. Not seeing the point in making a gift, he buys a quick one instead. He soon realizes his mistake when he thinks that SpongeBob has eaten the pie. This gives us, in my opinion, Mr. Krabs' greatest line: "The boy cries ya a sweater of tears, and ya kill him." An absolutely thuddingly brilliant, hilarious, and tragic line all at the same time. This episode balances those three qualities throughout so well. What also works well through this episode is SpongeBob's eternal optimism and naivete. Not knowing he may face death, he happily parades Squidward around town to do all the fun things on his list. This episode does a superb job of balancing the tragedy of SpongeBob's fate and Squidward's guilt with the absurdity of the list. Oh my god, if I had to go and list every funny moment in this episode, I would never stop writing. But a few highlights: this face, "I can't breathe", open heart surgery being on the list for some reason, again, I could go on and on. It's the perfect comedy break from such a tragic story. And then the episode goes and rips your heart in half as we get to the sunset. This is the greatest moment between Squidward and SpongeBob, and very likely the greatest moment in the series. From the moment Squidward has the realization that SpongeBob's time is almost up, to the moment SpongeBob explodes on the other side of the brick wall. It's such a solemn and yet tense moment waiting for the sunset, and then we get the heartbreaking line about the carelessness of a friend, and it just hits a home run in its character dynamics and emotion. I don't even have the words for this moment. It's beautiful, and justifies the whole series' existence singlehandledly. Finally, of course, we get the payoff to the plot, which is that SpongeBob didn't really explode at all. I'm exhausted from writing this summary review already, so again, just a few highlights: Babble Like an Idiot, "should be able to finish by January", SpongeBob and Squidward "exploding", and the final explosion with the ill-fated pie. Because how else was this episode gonna go out but a big bang? I adore this episode. It's got a permanent spot as my #1 at this point, and I am always happy to see it high up on the list. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Like a sweater made of eyelashes. 4 2
So Sejima
Dying was an unfortunate victim of me loving a ton of eps and was two spots away from making my list. It's easily one of the best SpongeBob/Squidward interactions with Squidward genuinely caring, only for him to explode in the end about SpongeBob not exploding. Their day trip doing all sorts of wacky hijinks on Sponge's bucket list is great, and the sunset scene is one of the show's best. This could very well make my list next time, and I'll really consider adding it if I can find a good spot.

RD Rockruff
Dying for Pie is the best episode of Season 2, and not without good reason. The plotline is rather emotional, without getting too caught up in itself and balancing it with great jokes and all of that leads to an overall enjoyable episode all the way through. I wish it could've overtaken the two overrated episodes this year but alas, it just didn't get high enough on the list. Oh well, at least it got up to a good spot and I hope next year it gets even higher, perhaps even up to #
WinterArcanine
This episode is VASTLY overrated, and it's just a shaggy dog story . Additionally, I've never played any video games based on this episode. I'm disappointed this made the list. ENOUGH SAID 1 1 3

SpongeNicko
"Dying for Pie" was SO close to making my list just like "Mimic Madness" and "Can You Spare a Dime?". I would definitely at least put it at #28. This episode just reeks of pure awesomeness, and has all the pieces needed to make a fantastic episode. It has brilliant humor (With scenes like SpongeBob performing heart surgery on Squidward, the ending explosion, as well as the sweater SpongeBob made with his tears), heartwarming moments (especially when SpongeBob and Squidward are watching the Sunset), and of course an added element of darkness, with the whole idea of SpongeBob being about to die after supposedly eating the bomb pie. It is an absolutely brilliant episode and it's nice to see it get a lot of recognition. I think the only reason why this wasn't on my own list was that I've seen this episode so many times, and as a result because I have it nearly 100% memorized it's harder for me to laugh at the comedy compared to some other ones. Regardless though, I still love this episode, and from my own objective standpoint it deserves a spot in the Top 30.
4EverGreen
"Dying For Pie" DIDN'T make my list?! (Rushes outside to SCREAM loudly at the stupid oversight!) Rant portion: Sorry, I had to get that out of my system, but this has been my WORST year for contributing episodes that has actually APPEARED on this list! I contributed 4 brand new episodes that I REALLY wanted to comment on if they appeared on this list, and with only two left, it's highly obvious to me that not a single ONE of my new episodes that I wanted to comment on will APPEAR on this list! I feel like there should be a new rule, like on "Real Time With Bill Maher." From now on, all SBC users MUST submit only 30 pre-movie episodes, and combine them with 30 post-movie episodes, so we don't get this one-sided pre-movie fest that EVERY single user only wants to see the exact SAME episodes we've ALL seen on this list a MILLION times! Rant portion over. In all seriousness, "Dying for Pie" is a REALLY great episode, and shows that Squidward, deep, deep, deep, DEEP down, really DOES care about Spongebob's happiness, even if it's only because Squidward thinks that Spongebob is going to DIE because of Squidward! Most of the activities are pretty funny; I think the only thing that prevented this episode from appearing on my list was the open heart surgery gag. In any case, this episode probably has the best brick joke in "Spongebob Squarepants" history, as OF COURSE, Spongebob wanted to SAVE the pie to share with Squidward, and the pie ends up EXPLODING in Squidward's face, resulting in laser guided karma! Well, here's hoping we have one more good episode, and what will INEVITABLY be "Band Geeks" at #1, like it ALWAYS is! Enough said! 6

SpongeNicko
Honestly, I'd be really, REALLY shocked if the top 2 are not both "Band Geeks" and "Chocolate With Nuts". While I can't say for sure which one will come out as #1 (Though I'm hoping it's CWN), I can say with confidence that they're gonna be the final two on the list. Hayden
I can't name 30 good post-movie episodes of Spongebob (the best written post-movie eps do not stand up against Cartoon Network's content. Now that I'm done with that TANGENT.....In a perfect world, Dying for Pie wins over the two coming after this. kylie
Seriously though, calm down with the dog-piling on 4EG just for stating his opinion or constructing his lists a certain way. We've been through the motions of this disagreement enough times to know that it's not going to go anywhere. At the end of the day this is a list ranking SpongeBob episodes and not anything that serious. You are liable to receive warning points if you cannot help yourself. Thank you! 1
