Guest hilaryfan80 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I have to say: this is perhaps one of the dumbest things I've ever read. https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/a3jkd4/the-reddit-moderator-getting-a-phd-in-online-moderation Not only is moderating not that hard, how is it traumatizing? As someone who has moderated in many places, this is one topic in which I do not understand... really, I do not understand. If moderating is traumatizing to you, then you shouldn't be a moderator in the first place. I've seen it all: pictures of dead bodies (and dead babies), nudes, a banned member's butthole, marriage proposals... you name it. I don't feel like I've been traumatized by it. And I just checked out her reddit.... um, well, let's just leave a link here and you can decide for yourself. https://www.reddit.com/r/GirlGamers/ I mean... https://www.reddit.com/r/GirlGamers/comments/7ghson/i_love_funko_pop_figures_but_hate_the_girls_tiny/ It sounds like to me that she gets traumatized when someone sneezes. Anyways, I'm not sure how practical it is to get a PhD in this topic when her credentials are not all that impressive. I'm just telling the truth. But we'll find out when she comes out with over $100k in debt and can't pay for it, I guess.
Cream Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Okay, what? I agree that this is pretty dumb - Even though I don't have a lot of moderation experience admittedly, it doesn't take a genius to know that it's one of the easier jobs to do. I can't open that reddit link rn but the name "GirlGamers" is enough for me, lol. 2
Katniss Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I really don't think online moderating requires a PhD, especially since we have teenagers modding forums just fine I get wanting to make forums a safe, open, and exclusive place but this seems like a bit much. and lol at that Funko post...who really care about foot sizes
Hayden Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Switching my major to this so that SBC will have to take my credentials into consideration
Metal Snake Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 What do you mean I can't actually do anything with my Facebook studies degree?
So Sejima Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I dunno about you guys, but based on my experience I've come across things that no man should during my job as SBM mod Spoiler Clearly we should support any and all mods for what tragedy they have to go through on a daily basis
crushingmayhem Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Where's my master's degree on modding when I need it? Anyway, this sure is interesting. A PhD on something online based really says something, but then again modding is just keeping the forums and features in order. You don't really need a title or credential for your job.
