Elastic Dawg Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) Initially, I was enthusiastic about Sanders. As overly idealistic and unrealistic as some of his ideas were, the man struck me as someone that genuinely wanted change in what he saw as the injustices in the world...then he lost and was essentially bought out by the Clinton campaign (no, ifs, ands, or buts about it; ya'll can look through those Wikileaks emails if you have the time). This mere disillusionment turned to disgust the longer the race went on, but we'll get to that in a bit. I'd remembered Johnson from the 2012 election and, upon seeing that he was running again, decided to look more into his policies, and realized he was the candidate for me. Now, for years, I considered myself a leftist, bordering on the further side. What I didn't realize was my definition of "liberalism" was far more in line with the classical liberalism ideals celebrated by the Libertarian Party (who i'd always had an interest in, but was too far up my own ass in my vision of a utopian socialist world to really give much thought to). There's a few of his policies and proposals I find a bit questionable (or flat out disagree with), but the man has shown himself to be competent as hell, genuinely badass, a successful businessman, and above all, concerned about the rights of the individual to make their own decisions above all else. So, yeah. Johnson/Weld is Elastic af, and most likely who will be receiving my vote this November. But you can't discuss current politics without avoiding the big D, huh? Donald Trump. A name I despised off the bat. A man with zero political experience, accusations of being a cheap, sleazy bastard, a frightening fascistic fanbase, all of this and more led to me to view him as nothing more than another demented bigot running for office. He'll never make it through the primaries, I thought. Sure enough, guess who's currently the Republican candidate for president? And y'know what? I genuinely think he's a far better choice than Hillary, even if he doesn't strike me as the ideal man to "make America great again". For every absurd or lewd comment he makes (or made over a decade ago, in private, with a close friend), the media zeros in on that and focuses in on it, completely ignoring his actual politics. You know what really lead me from being anti to almost pro-Trump (aside from taking the actual time to look into his policies and ideas)? The disgustingly corrupt, fascistic way the Clinton campaign has been handling things. You hear anything about Wikileaks on the news (aside from Assange being accused of rape and working for Russia, which, as their email dump confirms, was merely slander to turn the public against him)? How about the stealth expose/undercover journalism done by James 'o' Keefe (a questionable source, I know) about the inner workings of the DNC, where members confess on camera to paying off the mentally ill and homeless to intentionally incite violence at Trump rallies to make his supporters look bad? (and for my fellow Bernouts, they did the same thing with him, albeit in a different context i'm struggling to remember at the moment). There's a lot more, but that's good for a general overview. Point is, you can listen to the mainstream narrative of Trump as a hateful, violent, bigoted monster who hates minorities with a burning passion and will rise like LE HITLER!!!11, or you can take the time to do research outside of what you hear, and 90 percent of the time, you'll see that a lot of what the media blows up about Trump is completely meaningless (even the bigger "scandals" like his tax returns mean nothing, the dude is rich and smart enough to have people help him find ways to pay less in taxes, something EVERY AMERICAN DOES) whereas the deplorable (heh) actions of Clinton and co. go ignored, since, gee wilkers, at least their increasingly Orwellian vision of a perfect world would be far better than a world where someone like Trump who says mean things and wants to monitor who can and can't enter this country as a safety measure out of concern for the well-being of other Americans is president? As for Jill Stein, she's cool. I like her. She's like having a hippie dippy well-informed grandma with sharper critical thinking skills than most her age. tl;dr clinton is morally and ethically reprehensible on almost every level, sanders showed promise but ultimately sold out, johnson's a bit of an oddball but has proven himself competent and worthy of a chance in the white house, trump really ain't that bad, and jill stein is a cool old lady Edited October 19, 2016 by Elastic Dawg 1
Katniss Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) lol I'm sorry but I still despise Donald Trump. He makes my skin crawl every time he opens his mouth. And as a woman, I can't bring it in me to support him especially after some of the gross things he's said about other women. Has Hillary done some bad things too? Yeah, and I'm not defending her actions, especially about the emails. But I do think she's a way better candidate than Trump. As for the third-party people, I don't know enough about them to form an opinion and neither is gonna win anyway so I'm not gonna bother Edited October 19, 2016 by Katniss 3

A third party vote isn't a wasted vote, a vote simply for the "lesser of two evils" while still acknowledging you dislike the candidate is. 1
Katniss Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I'm not voting for the lesser of two evils though. I do like Hillary even though I preferred Bernie

As a matter of fact, I agree with you 100%.

Honestly, if you're voting for Johnson or Stein, you're just voting for the lesser of four evils instead. Johnson's an idiot who doesn't understand the first thing about foreign policy, and Stein is a lunatic whose positions on homeopathy and GMOs are downright dangerous. As many problems as I have with Trump, he's a candidate who has a (fortunately decreasing) chance of winning, so votes for him are at least partly justified. I can say the same for Evan McMullin, who, through an electoral loophole, can win the presidency by winning Utah, which he has a very good chance of doing right now, unlike Johnson or Stein in any state. 3

In my honest opinion, Stein is a complete moron, although I do think Johnson is less bad then Stein although I still don't like him at all. The big thing that turns me off about Johnson is his stance on fracking and just god... he just creeps me out and doesn't give me the right vibe. Hillary's the best in the race IMO, although she's far from perfect. And Trump.... do I even need another reason to despise this filthy, misogynistic, prejudiced excuse for a human being? So yeah. I don't have any comment about any of the other parties since I don't know anything about them Edited October 22, 2016 by CyanideFishbone
Young Nug Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) the nuggets report: live from my phone in my bed at 2:33 AM Every available candidate is ass and you're fucked ?? ppl want to hate on Hillary for being a monster and a shady politician. This is literally everyone in the White House and she's just getting shit for it because she's in a very publicized position. Yeah she's done a lot of awful garbage but that's standard biz in politics, she's just not as good at hiding it she's fake as FUCK but she's just a seasoned politician. Her policies ok and not gonna change much from Obama's years, she's not gonna say anything that puts the US in danger, whatever weird partnerships she's got with dangerous countries don't really matter (too too much) because Hillary's not a fuckin idiot. I go to a predominantly white college in the Southern US, Trump apologists are everywhere he is not okay and never will be Yeah okay he's just a regular guy, yeah okay half of the dumb shit he's saying won't get through congress, yeah okay all that shit was like 10 years ago, yeah okay it was "locker room talk" (lmao) man it doesn't fuckin matter why do you want a president with THAT MANY yeah okays donalds policies are lowkey not bad, politically he's not a total idiot but if he wins, nobody but Donald can control what comes out of the Donald's mouth can you really see this dude flying to other countries and talking to world leaders respectfully North Korea borderline threatened terrorist actions when Seth Rogen made a movie about them, you get Trump started on Asians and you've just started WW3. FUCK DONALD TRUMP (feat. G-Eazy and Macklemore) that orange tater tot can't be the president, you think he got the chops as a human being I can't fuck w/ you sorry the media blows up a lot of his shit but it's all based on something, and the base quotes certainly ain't from fuckin Mr. Rogers either. I do think that homeboy is a little racist, even if just accidentally so. Vito Corleone came out and called this man a bullshit artist man he literally has taken the ultimate L. Fuck this guy 3rd parties got no little to no chance in the election right now, you wanted to make a difference you should've voted a year ago before we had the shit we got now, you vote for them now you're not really doing much of anything helpful. I get voting your conscience and everything so if you wanna do that be my guest. Your conscience isn't really going to make much of a difference doing this though I think if your hatred of one candidate is strong enough to where you don't want them to be prez more than you don't want someone else to be prez that strategic voting is a-ok. I know Dylan pigskin classic hates that shit but it's 2016 and the dude that fires people on The Apprentice is running for president, it's time for some #newrules However as of right now this is the most focus 3rd parties have really ever gotten though and the incoming paradigm shift because of this is going to be interesting come the next election not to say that the 3rd party choices are good for you though Jill Stein is basically Bernie 2.0 with her silly ass ideas to end student debt (a lovely idea) through quantitative easing, which is a process she's made very clear she doesn't fucking understand, thinking that the president has the power to do that when it's in the hands of the federal reserve. And this chick thought Brexit was a good idea so yeah lmao nope and Gary Johnson not only creepy as SHIT but "what is Aleppo" and him literally not being able to name a world leader he admires is just like, c'mon. Not to say he's an idiot or anything but like JCM said, he also doesn't know the first thing about foreign policy. 3 strikes fam hillary plays it shitty af but at least she knows what she's doing I guess i miss you Bern Daddy im gonna miss u Obama ? 2016 yeah! CyanideFishbone Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Little message to America after tonight.
TJ Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 It's beyond ridiculous. Hilary Clinton was the most qualified candidate in American history, and she lost to a racist, misogynist, homophobic, trans-phobic, classicist, islamphobic, orange cheeto. 3
WhoBibbles Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 This is horrible news and thanks to that, it mixed with my personal issues rn but omfg this made me feel at least a bit better 3
Minty Car Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 This saddens me most about this election I think. We have audio tapes of him talking about these things, practically flaunting it, and yet here we are. I don't want to judge anyone, but it says a lot that we can overlook this sort of thing. I'm going to hold hope that the machinations of American Government hold up and he's a footnote in our history in however many years, but I still can't believe it's gotten this far. 1
