SG19 Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 It was originally coming out the same day as the Lego Movie sequel, so I'm glad it got pushed back.
4EverGreen Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I was just thinking, since Stephan Hillenburg has been diagnosed with ALS, maybe the third movie should wrap up the entire "Spongebob Squarepants" franchise. It feels like the right thing to do, in order to make sure Stephan has said everything he has wanted to say with "Spongebob Squarepants." 1

That would be the right thing to do, but Nickelodeon prizes it too much as their cash-cow, so I dunno, but I get what you're saying. If it were to wrap up the franchise though, it should take place after the original movie, so it can have some proper character development (Like Spongebob and Squidward developing a actual friendship) and other plot elements wrapped up. 2
Jjs Goodman Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 The movie has been moved to July 31, 2020. Source: http://deadline.com/2017/12/johnny-knoxville-action-point-spongebob-squarepant-movie-release-dates-paramount-1202229994/
Night-Waker Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 As long as the movie's good, I don't really care how long they take on it
Hayden Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 July 22nd, 2020 http://nickalive.blogspot.com/2018/04/nickelodeon-and-paramounts-third.html Wonderful
GAYLE Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 "It's a Wonderful Sponge" is one of the worst puns I've ever heard. 1
Clappy Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 How dare theyrip-off the beloved classic Shrek Forever After!

NegiSpongie Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 They do know that Shrek Forever After ripped off It's a Wonderful Life, right? 1
Steel Sponge Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 (edited) I was just pulling some legs with my last post, like how Claps was joking with his post. So many other works of television and film have done a spin on the "It's a Wonderful Life" plot before. And I think it's to the point that calling it a rip-off would be a bit of a stretch. I don't even know if the pun in the official title alone would mean that SpongeBob would tackle this type of plot, but if it ever does, I'd like to see whatever direction that SB would take with it. SpongeOddFan Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 I'm not even sure why's 3rd movie is necessary? 1

CDCB Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 Plot somewhat revealed, among other stuff. https://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/the-spongebob-movie-its-a-wonderful-sponge-will-be-an-origin-story-165568.html

The prospect of this being an origin story has potential, but the only person he can really meet in any sensible way is Patrick, because having SpongeBob meet Squidward, Mr. Krabs and Sandy at this summer camp would retcon the beginning of the series, which I would dislike personally. Hopefully there's a lot more to the movie than just this summer camp. I'll keep an open mind, but my expectations aren't there right now.
