Ted 2

I like how they point out how unnecessary this sequel is, but at the same time, the lack of Mila Kunis is making me feel rather iffy about this sequel.  The jokes are there, but I'm still not sold on the existence of this besides obvious cash grab.

It premieres tomorrow and so far it's getting negative reviews and the rating is %36 on Rotten Tomatoes so far. It's such a shame because I actually enjoyed first Ted, despite a few jokes that could have been removed. Maybe Seth MacFarlane should focus on music rather than writing movies, I dunno.

Honestly this is a movie that's going to be review proof in terms of it being a success or a failure.  Everything I've been reading says it's more of the same.  This reminds me a lot of The Hangover 2 in terms of the reviews I've read.  I think this will bring out the original fanbase that knows what to expect from the trailers which look like a continuation of more of the same.  But this isn't going to make the same amount money wise.  Which no one is expecting.

Also this has nothing to do with Seth MacFarlane's career.  Ted 2 isn't going to make or break him as a film director.  The MacFarlane empire is still strong whether it's fanbase is getting tired of his shtick or not.

Pretty much this. The guy probably has more than enough money to retire early if he wanted to. He's done it all.

Man, you're right. I wish Seth MacFarlane would get back on track in terms of his humor but that's probably never going to happen. At least people say this is better than A Million Ways to Die in the West.

So I caught this while on vacation.

Spoiler

Mediocre. Not bad persay, but very mediocre. The main problem I had with this was how uninspiring this was and it can all go back to the root of Seth MacFarlane. I don't know if it's me growing tired of his humor or the movie studio forcing a sequel due to how successful the original was, but somewhere in between, the film lost any passion the original had. It all goes back to the writing which is heavily reliant on pop culture references or Seth's go to frat boy humor about porn, weed, and racism. While I did get some laughs from this, I felt like most of the jokes were rehashes already previously done on one of his shows. Lord knows how many times I found myself thinking, Seth already did this joke on Family Guy. As for the plot, they could have done a lot more with the whole concept of Ted is property or a living being. But how the plot got resolved doesn't do much of anything to make me feel like Ted redeems himself in the end minus the obvious climax.

As for the acting? The movie could have used Mila Kunis badly. Amanda Seyfried did ok and managed to surprise me for a role that's out of her comfort zone. However, I felt anyone could have done this part. Mark Wahlberg was heavily underutilized. Part of the reason why I like the original was because of him. He managed to shine and show that he has tons of comedic chops to be versatile as an actor. Here? He doesn't have his own moments and his character regressed badly with the break up due to no Mila in the sequel. They use the whole he didn't need to change element when he hooks up with Amanda but I don't buy it. It comes so forced since it's like "these two love pot so they should hook up". Giovanni Ribsi didn't need to be here but he lost the charm he had as the antagonist in the first and just weird more than funny creepy. Morgan Freeman did what he does in his small role. He's Morgan Freeman, he doesn't need to try to be awesome because he is.

So yeah, this was as mediocre as expected. If you still love Seth's humor, you'll probably still like this. If you are expecting more of a true sequel, then you are shit out or luck. This is as mediocre as most cash grab R rated sequels. I don't think this is the movie that kills Seth MacFarlane's film directing career. This sequel will still be profitable and the MacFarlane empire isn't going away anytime soon, but he has to show some sort of passion with his next project. Because Ted 2 felt nearly as uninspiring as modern day Family Guy. I don't want to see his film career become that.

I honestly don't know. I didn't like A Million Ways, but at least that movie had some sort of passion in it because it was something Seth actually showed effort to work on.

Interesting. Hopefully he'll put effort into his next movie because his humor is a guilty pleasure of me sometimes.
