You know them: SpongeBob Community and SpongeBuddy Mania, the two most known SpongeBob forums. But what if…there existed a third site to compliment them? …Oh right, there was United SpongeBob. Uhh, for the sake of the idea, let’s pretend that doesn’t exist. Episode 37: What If…There Was a Third SpongeBob Forum? The SpongeBrother Village (SBV) was founded in June 2014 by a mysterious user named Mr. Meh, matching the pattern of how SBM and SBC were founded 5 years apart from each other. It was aimed at people who “wanted chill SpongeBob discussion”, whatever that meant. The board runs on Simple Machines Forum and has the simple welcome message of “Welcome to the village, brother.” Notable boards included: Shell City for SpongeBob discussion of which there was little, The Wash for general discussion akin to SBC’s Robot Pirate Island, and a board dedicated solely to Kirby. You may be thinking adding a Kirby section to a SpongeBob site sounds as ridiculous as adding a My Little Pony section, and you'd be right. Here’s the most notable members from SBV’s history: Mr. Meh: The head honcho with a fondness of King Dedede and potato chips. His motto is “You chips ain’t got a chance against me!” Otherwise, very little was known about him by even the closest of friends. He claims he made SBV as a peaceful village for SpongeBob fans, though some wonder if there’s more to his reasoning. When his friends try to ask him pressing questions, he always responds by eating potato chips or quoting King Dedede. John Lemon: A moderator and huge Beatles fan who once accidentally thought John Lennon’s name was pronounced John Lemon. He is the community’s professional shitposter and his signature avatar is John Lennon’s face on a lemon. Shocking, I know. Wooden Croissant: A French guy who got his namesake from thinking croissants taste like wood. He is one of the most vocal food critics of the site and users frequently looked forward to his restaurant reviews. SummerKuriboh: Originally SummerOrange62, a user from Wyoming and has the honor of possibly being the only person to exist from the state. He is known for his passionate interest in the intense children’s card game of Yu-Gi-Oh and is rumored to be undefeated in the game. Named after his favorite Yu-Gi-Oh creature. Queen Amethyst: Acting as the big sister of the site, she is a huge fan of Steven Universe, with her favorite character being Amethyst. She’s the resident artist of the community, providing most of its graphics. PeggyPropane97: She is a huge King of the Hill fan and her favorite character is you guessed it, Peggy Hill, who she frequently quotes. She’s also a gamer, with her favorite series being Banjo Kazooie. May or may not be fluent in various languages depending who you ask. Robert Bathtoys: Known for his studious knowledge of SpongeBob writers and storyboard artists. He also tends to intentionally misquote episode lines for the lulz, hence his namesake. An actual SpongeBob fan on a SpongeBob site, who would’ve thought? Subarufan300: A big car enthusiast and prominent fanfiction writer on the site, known for writings such as The Misadventures of Mr. Doodles and Virgo Sun. Oh and Patrick is his favorite character. This motley crew never quite fit in anywhere else but by sheer luck, the Village was where they were able to find community. 5 years later in August 2019, SpongeBrother Village continued to stay in its own independent corner of the internet. It never registered on either SBC or SBM’s radars, and this small crew also never cared to visit either site finding them too overwhelming to dive into due to their years of lore. But the members felt the site was stagnating and unable to reel in any new people, leading to uncertainty about its longevity. Realizing how little they even knew about the founder after 5 years, the members confronted Mr. Meh demanding answers in the only way possible. Unlike how other internet communities deal with their drama, around here they settle them with a children’s card game. SummerKuriboh challenged Mr. Meh to a game of Yu-Gi-Oh and if he wins, he will tell them his backstory. Mr. Meh agrees to the duel, but unfortunately he hadn’t paid attention to a single thing SummerKuriboh said about the game over 5 years and pathetically lost the duel without even a struggle. As agreed, Mr. Meh reveals his origin story to the crew. Flashback In early 2010, Mr. Meh joined the original SpongeBob Committee Xat on a fateful day and introduced himself like no other member: with a single video. Mr. Meh: He continued to spam this video of King Dedede eating potato chips for the lulz. Unfortunately, the rest of the Xat folk did not take kindly to this. Ex would ban Mr. Meh for spam and he’d be thrown into the realm of banished SBC users. Since that day, Mr. Meh swore vengeance on SBC for not finding his video funny and wanted to prove his comedy was better than SBC’s by trying to make everyone laugh at King Dedede eating potato chips on various sites for 4 years, but none of them found it funny either. He blamed SBC for his misery over the years and that lead to June 2014 when he made the Village, hoping he would prove SBC wrong. Mr Meh takes a sweet bite of potato chips after finishing his story. The Villagers are disappointed to learn they wasted 5 years on a site that was nothing but a petty revenge scheme. Mr. Meh apologizes for deceiving them and has admitted he had no real plan for this site hence why they’ve had no direction or identity. As the village failed to grow an audience, he realized how pointless this was all was when SBC didid’t even know this place existed. Hell, all the regular prominent members are just store brand versions of SBC users. In fact, he doesn’t even remember if he ever watched an episode of SpongeBob to begin with. Meh indeed. Accepting defeat, he shut the Village down and left one farewell message on the site: “I’m just headed to the fields to get chips, I’ll be back…” The group went their separate ways. Mr. Meh wondered how SBC was doing and was shocked to learn it just turned 10 years old. He tried to rejoin Xat, but found out it was dead. He saw the community now used this newfangled invention called “Discord” as their chat, but didn’t understand how it worked. Mr. Meh intended to join the forum and post a thread seeking redemption, but he didn’t understand how to get past a Captcha. Needless to say, he was quite behind on the times. You may be wondering how he even operated a forum without Captcha registration, and to that I say the Village was so obscure not even the spambots gave a damn to spam it, there you go. Anyway, Mr. Meh realized there were more memes on the internet now than there were nearly a decade ago and that King Dedede eating potato chips was no longer the only meme he could find funny out there. He felt it was time to finally open his horizons, get a real personality and try out new things. Following the collapse of the Village, you may be wondering what happened to the members in the years since? I’m glad you asked. John Lemon: Opened his own lemonade company and is rumored to have possibly contributed to the Beatles documentary Get Back. Wooden Croissant: Became a professional French chef. Savoureux. SummerKuriboh: Became a professional Yu-Gi-Oh player, finally giving Wyoming its recognition. Queen Amethyst: Became well known in the Steven Universe fandom for her art until the show ended, at which point she hopped to the Owl House and Amphibia fandoms. PeggyPropane97: Became the lead developer of a Banjo Kazooie remake and snuck in a reference to Peggy somewhere in a level. Robert Bathtoys: Became a writer on modern SpongeBob and penned an episode where SpongeBob takes on the moniker of Robert Bathtoys, fulfilling the meme. Subarufan300: Became a car salesman and came up with a genius marketing move of Subarus with Patrick on them. It was a hit. Mr. Meh: Rumors say he became a drifter, trying to experience new internet cultures and learn new memes. He eventually found a fresh King Dedede quote to meme: Hot Dog. Taco. Hamburger. He spread these words around the internet and people dug the meme. Proud, he changed his name to Mr. Meme and become a well-respected contributor of Knowyourmeme, making King Dedede memes hip again. There was a happy ending after all.

This will be the 15th edition and we have a lot planned to celebrate. The Candy Contest will return, where each game and activity during the event rewards you pieces of candy. Whoever has the most pieces of candy gathered by the end of the month will be crowned the Candy Champion of Halloween and receive spooktacular prizes! Ghost Powers will return from last year, which allow you to use three unique powers to give you an advantage in certain games and steal candy. Here’s a guide to the main activities to expect: Stop What You Are Doing - Halloween Edition: For the 58th SWYAD, dress up for any Halloween theme you wish. Reserve a name in this thread or via Discord if you haven't already. Anyone who signs up automatically gets 10 pieces of candy on the scoreboard. Hooky 6: 10 Years Later: Hooky, our classic murder mystery game, will be making a special return to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The Flying Dutchman could not let the series die and like Hollywood, is giving it a ghostly resurrection. Beware of the Ghost Fisherman. Unlike the past editions where it was contained in a roleplaying thread, this will work differently in that it spans the whole event and every regular game will be a part of it. One user will be assigned Ghost Fisherman and it will be their job to kill everyone participating. Whoever comes in first each game will be safe from death for that night and has a chance to take out the ghost. Note that there will be no killings on nights without games. You will also lose candy on the scoreboard if slain. Can the Ghost Fisherman's wrath be stopped? Halloween Trivia Contest: Returning yet again, in this six part contest, you'll compete against other users on Kahoot to see who knows the most about Halloween! Whoever has the most points by the end will be the Halloween nerd. The games will occur on Wednesday nights. One of the themes will be Creepypastas. Flash Archive Tournaments: Play in haunted SpongeBob games using JCM's archive every Thursday night at 7pm EST! Other Activities: Hunt for tombstones in the scavenger hunt and replacing the Scary Story Contest is the Candy Creator Contest, where you can invent your own candy! Octerror Minigames: Past Octerror minigames return, and there will be a new one known as Graveyard Maze! Both the forums and Discord will receive awesomely terrifying Halloween makeovers. For the first time ever, we're having an event in September...sort of! Plankton, Karen and Sandy have teamed up to host a mini science fair event known as Scientific September, which will last from September 12th to September 20th. You could also consider this a back to school event, but don't worry, it'll be fun! Here's what activities will occur during this mini event: Cards Against Humanity: One CAH game will be held September 12th. Music Party: One QueUp party will be held September 12th. SpongeBob Pictionary: Two Pictionary games will be held on September 13th and 20th, with the themes of SpongeBob Science episodes and Chemistry respectively. SpongeCraft Frontiers: A SpongeCraft building contest will be held September 13th. Jackbox: The game Role Models will occur September 15th, fitting for this event. Kahoot: Master your knowledge of the periodic table on September 17th. The Science Display: September 19th live on Discord, pitch a unique science experience on the fly which will be judged by Plankton, Karen and Sandy! Forum Minigame - Chemical Mixer: Mix dangerous chemicals with hopefully less than disastrous results. Nothing too big or crazy here. We also have the budget for a special Bill Nye cameo. Yay!
